This evening I am making a start on Torchwood again (blame Tardis Console) and have been discussing the possibility of future crossovers with the other half. Obviously talking to you lot is more interesting though and should give the hint that my tea needs cooking Tongue

Anyway, I was explaining that as time goes on, the chances of Jack appearing in Who again are getting slimmer, though there is always still that chance and it got me thinking.... The Doctor has appeared in the child friendly SJA, but do you think he should ever appear in Toechwood?

For me, I think that he shouldnt. I just dont see how he could fit in with the themes and dynamic of the show. Torchwoods fanbase is a lot older, and I think if I saw the Doctor in the show he would be tainted somewhat. Its hard for me to fully explain why, but its just a feeling I get. When Martha showed up I was praying that she wouldnt swear or have any sex scenes or anything, and thankfully she didnt. I totally love Torchwood, but I see Doctor Who as more family friendly viewing and think having him crossover would be a bad idea. Im still not hundred percent sure him being in SJA is that great and idea either if I am honest, though for different reasons obviously. Im still open to crossovers from both shows into the main show though Smiley

Thoughts and opinions please Cheesy

Admittedly I still haven't seen all of TW yet, but based on what I know from Series 1 I have to say that I don't think the Doctor would fit in the show. Despite being related the 2 shows are very different and while it is perfectly possible for TW characters to cross to the main show I don't believe the reverse to be true - would be very jarring I think especially in the case of the Doctor. Not a good fit at all. Mini ramble adding up to NO!

NEVER!!!

Sometimes, like in Children of Earth it leaves plotholes that the fans pick to death but I was glad that The Doctor didnt show up then and I dont think he should show up ever. Aside from the themes debate which was picked up on earlier, if Torchwood is going to step fully out of the shadow of its big brother, then it needs to prove that as a show it can go the distance and cope with the scenarios without the help of the Doctor. I mean that not from a procuction point of view, but from the point of view of the stories and characters. How would peril ever feel perilous if they know they can just ring up the Doctor and be sorted out straight away.

I'm with everyone else on this. Having the Doctor in Torchwood would be bad for both shows for various reasons. The post above somes up my thoughts best on the subject

I suppose if like Martha, they kept his character 'clean' then a little appearance couldnt hurt. Not in a heavy episode though because as River said above, the viewer needs to know that Torchwood can save the day without his help

He was supposed to appear in CoE Day 5 originally. Not sure what happened though.

I think a cameo would be better than a proper role. Like if he dropped off Captain Jack back on Earth, and said "Make things right" or something to start season 4.... (I know it won't happen with the Starz licensure and the Doctor being just BBC, but I was making a point)

So yeah.......cameo........lol

I think it was in RTD's Writer's Tale book.

Mickey was supposed to appear, too.

I knew about Mickey and Martha, but not about the Doctor. Though on that page, its mentioned in the myths section, so may not be true

Yeah, thats true.

And if Gwen made that speech, and the TARDIS appeared, it would be a little anti-climactic lol
