Title: Spoiler Tags?
Post by: Iceman on September 02, 2010, 10:41:18 pm
Would it be possible to get some kind of spoiler tags for the non spoiler sections?

For instance, if I was in a Doctor Who discussion thread, I would say:

"I loved the Dream Lord, and I thought this episode was brilliant! Besides Rory's ponytail of course.

Btw, I can't wait for
The Silurians next week!
"

except you would have to click where the spoiler is to reveal it.

Hmm. Could be a little difficult for those of us using the mobile site - already can't view images or quote posts :-(

Thanks for your suggestion - it is will be looked into as a possibilty for some parts of the forum. So this isn't a no.

However we do have two seperate forums for discussion about current Doctor Who (as well spoiler sections for Torchwood & SJA) - one that allows spoilers & one that does not. If you wanted to say something that included a spoiler (no matter how big or small) then it would need to go in the section that allows them. The section is clearly marked out as containing spoilers and people have made a choice to go in & read them. We would like to keep spoilers out of the spoiler free section - even hidden ones - that's why we set it up.

And Seren_y_Gogledd your point is noted - I will pass that back to the other mods & admin as well.

Right, this is what I have so far! I am still working on proper spoiler tags (though as Pop said, spoilers should really only be in the spoiler section for DW anyways, though they will be needed for the TW and SJA stuff). Anyways, for now I have this idea.

When you write a post, if there is a section you want to spoiler, then highlight the section and click on the option above the text box that has a G in it with a green background.

SPOILER

This will highlight it red (I dont know how to change the colour yet)

To make it so that it is more spoilery, highlight again and then change the colour to red also

SPOILER

And then when you hover over it, the spoiler will be underneath.

Sorry its not the best solution, but I am working on proper tags so you should be able to have them soon and I will let you know as soon as I sort something :) Is that ok?

That would've been my suggestion!

If a tag did that automatically that could work.

Iceman, I finally did it! :P

It took 5 hours of googling, trawling forums and rewriting HTML and CSS but I got it. I dont know why they dont just have a spoiler tag as standard. Its so silly. Anyways, I have managed to get
BBCodes working. There isnt a button for it yet so you will have to add them manually, I will work on that once I have had a kip, but it is something at least. It should look like this
spoiler
When you click post, it will look like it hasnt worked, but thats because you will be in a preview mode. Once the page is refreshed, the tags will be active :)

Actually, I think I sorted it. You just have to leave a gap between the tags and the spoiler, like so

[blah blah] example [/blah blah]

Ahh, that explains why it hasn't been working for me, been having trouble for over a week now.  Cheers Exterminate :D

Well, it doesn't work if you preview it. But it will work in the actual post.

They work fine in your post sandi.

Where they DON'T work, is when you quote it.

Hmm, they are showing up now :hmmm:  Is it because I use Quick Reply, maybe the page has to reload before they show up correctly?

Yea there is an issue with using them in preview and before reloading the page. After that they are fine and everyone else can see them normally

Awesome, I knew about the preview thing but didn't realise you had to reload the page.  Can someone check my post in Post your Desktop, I've reloaded a few times but still see this (MILD SPOILER) - http://i51.tinypic.com/122dzpy.jpg

It works in the quote too

Did you just fix it? Because I would bet my Star Wars collection it wasn't working, except for Boba Fett. Nobody touches the Fett man.

Sorry but Fett is the only one I want. Perhaps Chewy too. I didnt change the tags so I expect them FedEx'd in bubble wrap asap :)

It was a Family Guy quote, I would actually not give up Chewbacca, as he's my favorite, you can have Fett :P
