Title: The Walking Dead
Post by: TheDoctorDonna on February 14, 2011, 02:09:08 pm
Anybody watching/Watched this?

After much arm twisting from the OH I finally sat down and started watching last night and it was brilliant. Did the first four episodes in one sitting and only have 2 more to go now. Going to watch them tonight.

I watched it and it's brilliant. The last few episodes are especially good so you should enjoy them when you watch :)

I love it! I can't wait for series 2. Its been extended to 13 episodes.

I didnt know it was gettig a longer run next series. Thats great news. The six episodes were great but there wasn't really enough room for arcs and stories given the size of the cast and the overall story. 13 episodes should sort that out

Yea I think that it will really benefit from the extra episodes. There was really only a smll story in series one, which was kinda sorted by episode 4, but there wasn't enough time in the last two episodes to really cover anything new

I got the the finale and loved it. I agree that it could have done with more story and I think a longer series will clear those things up so I am really looking forward to the next series

I'm obsessed with this show. I just started a rewatch last night. I can't wait for the second series

I'm doing a rewatch of this at the moment. Someone on the forum mentioned Zonbies the other day and it got me in the mood for it again. Can't wait for series 2 to start

Soooooo glad this show is back. Feature length premier on Sunday and it was awesome! Series 2 has started with a great comeback and the highest ever rating on a cable channel which should ensure a third season!

For anyone in the UK that watches this & doesn't download - according to the adverts I've seen it returns to the FX channel next week though it didn't specify a day or time.

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty good. They didn't need to extend it though because some parts felt a little dragged out.

I should probably give it a rewatch though because I really wasn't paying much attention for the first half hour.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: The Doc on October 23, 2011, 01:15:32 pm
I enjoyed it. With a lot of shows they waste a lot of time on series openers going over what has happened and whatnot but they just got straight into it with this which was good. Some bits felt a bit dragged out and it wasn't as filled with suspence as some episodes from the last season but it was a good start for sure.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Aneurin on October 27, 2011, 02:52:30 pm
Episode 2 was pretty good. There were some new characters introduced and it ended on a big cliffhanger. I think the reason it might be feeling a bit slow is because both episodes take place over a couple of hours, so although a lot is happening it doesn't feel like it is moving along much.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Peri-Peri on November 10, 2011, 02:23:42 pm
I'm not sure how I am feeling about this season so far. I am enjoying the episodes well enough I guess but it just doesn't seem to have the kick that the first season had. I suppose it has to stretch over double the episodes of the first season though so perhaps its all just building up to something epic. It got renewed last week for a third season so I suppose it needs to keep the audience hanging a bit.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Peri-Peri on February 14, 2012, 11:55:24 am
Anyone catch the latest episode? Feels like forever since it was last on. I'm still enjoying the series but it came back to a slow start. Its been feeling a bit tame lately. Too much standing around and arguing and not enough zombie terror

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Aneurin on February 14, 2012, 09:29:45 pm
It got its highest ever rating last night so I suppose thats a good sign. It has gotten a bit slow lately but I'm hoping it will pick back up. Next years series has been extended. First to 13 eps and now to 16 so it will have to keep up the momentum if it wants to keep the viewers.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Exterminate on February 16, 2012, 01:00:38 pm
I think where it is falling down this series is that it is spending too long on the farm. It's slowed the pace right down and taken so much of the risk away. I get that from a character point of view its ideal, but from a story perspective its getting a bit boring. The episodes are still good, but they aren't as action filled as I would like.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Roranicus on February 22, 2012, 05:36:29 pm
It felt back on form this week. There was more danger and a sense of suspense in this episode that has been lacking from the more recent episodes. The sooner they kill that guy with the shaved head, the better. He really annoys me!

Agreed, I much preferred this weeks! Very tense, and I liked Hershel becoming more of a bada$$. Felt silly trying to save that kid though, but I like where it's going for the rest of the season now.

It's just a shame it's taken them nine episodes to get back on track. I just hope it continues on for the rest of the season now. This week was great, but others have been less so.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Roranicus on March 01, 2012, 12:28:00 pm
It was great, but it's so annoying that the first 6 or so episodes were so wasted on rubbish. This is what the show shoud be about every week.

If they follow the comics, which they seem to be loosely doing, then I think the next season should be set in a prison for most of it.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Aneurin on March 01, 2012, 07:32:10 pm
That's the last thing they need. Spending too much time in one place away from the threat of whats happening is what has made most of series 2 boring.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Scott on March 03, 2012, 01:23:40 pm
I've got high hopes for the season finale. Earlier episodes of this season got a bit boring but the last couple of weeks have been great. I want a high death count in th last episode and the action needs to get away from the farm.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Exterminate on March 04, 2012, 01:30:12 am
They may spend a bit of season 3 there but I don't think they will spend the whole season there. Not if they have been listening to the critics for the first half of this season. Besides, they have deviated from the comics a fair bit so far so by the next season they may go away from them completely.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Peri-Peri on March 04, 2012, 02:04:21 pm
Well yeah, Shane should be dead by now, for example. Just a shame he isn't. Although I think they will be following it to some extent because
David Morrisey (Jackson in The Next Doctor) has been cast as 'The Governer', one of the baddies from the fifth volume of comics.
They could be skipping ahead some, but a lot of his plot centres on the prison so I am assuming at least some of the series will take place there.

Whew, what an episode!

The ending was spoiled for me (in the first instance because the Facebook widget said it  ) but damn, that was still intense! The music was great and sent shivers down my spine. And let's not forget the awesome house scene too where they decided Randall's fate.

Excellent ep. Is it harsh to say I really want to see the kid dead?

Oh, and what the hell is the point in T-Dog? Does he do ANYTHING? Dude needs to go too.

I got a real LOST vibe, with this incoming war with "The Others", Randall being the Henry Gale and even a bit of torture from Daryl.

That ending traumatised me. He was one of my favourite characters. It's a better fate than he had in the comics though.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Joshua on March 07, 2012, 07:41:13 pm
I wasn't particularly bothered by him one way or the other, but I did like him in this episode (maybe because I knew his fate - perhaps if I didn't know I would have found him annoying? Who knows!)

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: The Doc on March 07, 2012, 08:50:55 pm
I thought it was great this week. I've not been much of a fan of series 2 for the most part but the last couple of episodes have been really good. The stuff in the house where they were all standing around trying to decide the boys fate was written so well. Great scenes. I was really rooting for the zombie in the struggle with Carl, but unfortunately he got away. Depending on how closely they follow the comics in the next series then Carl should get shot in the face. I can't see it happening though ;D

Title: Re: The Walking Dead

My eyes, the spoilers they read!

How old is Carl in the comics? That's quite gruesome.

Post by: The Doc on March 07, 2012, 09:38:43 pm
Sorry, I should have spoilered that one. My bad.

Erm, in the comics he is 7 I think, so yea it's sort of brutal. If it's any consolation though he is 1000x worse in the comics. Even at 7 he's like a total sociopathic maniac.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Exterminate on March 08, 2012, 12:53:06 am
I wouldn't worry about spoilers unless you plan on reading the comics. Half of the stuff that happens in them I really don't imagine they would show on TV. Some of it is grim. Really brutal. The second series has strayed from them quite a lot already anyway. I only started reading them recently so I don't know too much about what happens but already after about 10 or 11 issues it's very different.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead

This weeks episode was soooooo good. I only got around to watching it last night but it was worth the wait. I agree with the comments about the stuff in the house where they are arguing and debating. That was great.
I can't believe they killed Dale off though. I really liked him.
I can't wait for the next two episodes now.

About bloody time!

Another great episode this week. I was wondering if they were going to bring the fact that
the virus can affect any dead person
into it and they did that this week, though it was a lot later than I expected. I suppose they haven't really had a chance before now though. Next weeks is going to be great.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Tardis-Console on March 13, 2012, 06:17:35 pm
That final scene of them coming over the hill was terrifying to me. I have nightmares about that sort of thing.

Next weeks episode has a lot of explaining to do. I'll spoiler this in case people haven't seen the latest episode.
Why all of a sudden have the rules changed? Why all of a sudden is there an Army of zombies colvectively heading towards the farm when there have only been about 4 in the last however many months they have been there
I know little bits from the comics so I have a rough idea of stuff that might happen, but a lot of the stuff I have read about that happens in the comics couldn't possibly happen now because of stuff the show has changed. Dale and Andrea for example are lovers in the comics, but obviously that won't be happening in the show. And also, ew. Half of me is tempted to go all out and find out exactly what happens in the comics so I can get more of an idea of where the show is going, but the other half thinks I already know too much and it will be more fun as a surprise. I'm torn.

Great ep this week, really awesome ending :) Carl needs to be zombie bait like yesterday though.

It is indeed strange that all of a sudden there's a huge herd when there hasn't been anything for weeks. I expect/hope it'll be explained though.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Kovarians-Eye-Patch on March 14, 2012, 12:22:25 am
In terms of
any dead person rising
which we found out in this weeks episode, they have done that all through the comics but they have been really inconsistent about it. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Just sort of happens when it suits the story. It hasn't been revealed why though in the ones I have read, but that isn't very many.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Joshua on March 20, 2012, 04:10:55 pm
That was AWESOME! The first twenty minutes... oh my gosh, full on adrenaline rush! The music was so intense the whole time. Amazing.

The second half was slower but I loved how it set up next season. So glad Andrea survived, I've actually grown to really like her. Hershel too was awesome, as was Daryl. Even starting to like Maggie and Carol!

Regarding the final shot...

I know what it is from reading people's comments before, but had I not known, I probably would have been asking "What was that?!" I have no idea what goes down there though, or who the mysterious new person is, so I am very excited for S3.

What's the verdict, people? Did you prefer S1 or S2?

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Roranicus on March 21, 2012, 04:50:44 pm
The character they introduced towards the end to rescue Andrea is absolutely badass in the comics. She's excellent. I agree with Joshua about the prison. It wasn't really clear what they were trying to show. Could have been anything. It was a great finale though. The last half of the season was so much stronger than the first half. The finale also broke records. Over 9m viewers. Highest cable rating for a show ever or something. I wouldn't be surprised if Season 4 gets an early pick up before S3 even starts.

She comes into the comics at issue 20 something like that. She has a bit of a brutal time for a while but I will be VERY surprised if they get away with showing it on TV. Some of her scenes in the comic are amongst the most disturbing things I have ever read.

Anyone seen the S3 premier? I think reading the comics has dampened it for me somewhat because I keep noticing all the deviations, whereas before I would just pay attention to what was going on onscreen. I enjoyed it well enough but not a lot seemed to happen. I think it needs a rewatch though because I was falling asleep through the last 20 minutes or so.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead

I really enjoyed it! It was pretty action-packed.

I'm already loving the Michonne character.

And just when I thought TWD couldn't surprise me anymore with either zombie killing or gore, it brings out the zombies-in-SWAT uniforms and the foot amputation. Awesome.

(Haven't read the comics btw)

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Saber on October 18, 2012, 11:54:12 am
I enjoyed it and it got over 10m in the ratings. For a cable show that's amazing. I think as long as they don't drag things out to fit the season length like they did with Hershels farm then the season could shape up to be brilliant. If they do half the things in the show that they covered in the comics while at the prison then it will definitely be an interesting few episodes.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Peri-Peri on October 22, 2012, 11:26:27 pm
The first episode was good but not what I expected. I thought more of the story would come into play but I'm guessing now that the prison stuff is set up it will kick off a bit. I've got ep2 downloaded to watch before sleep tonight.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Twisted-Sister on November 27, 2012, 10:28:35 pm
This series has far surpassed last year. They spent too much time doing nothing on Hershals farm but this year they've really ramped up the action and it's paying off. The latest episode had me a bit concerned about what would be shown because in the comics the stuff that was happening at this point was pretty sick, but they handled it well. Can't wait for next week, just a shame that it's the last until February.

I don't think they would really spoil it. There is enough in the comics that it is obviously the same story but they are different enough that both are their own. People who should be alive aren't and some who should be dead aren't. Some characters don't appear at all in the show or comics. There are loads from the comics that don't appear and Daryl, T-Dog, Oscar, Merle and a few others aren't in the comics. The stuff now with Andrea in Woodbury never happened in the comics and the way Michonne is introduced is different. Hershal losing his leg never happened either. That was meant to be Dale. I've read the first 101 comics but the show still shocks me every episode.

The showrunner has quit. Apparantly there were differences between him and the network. That's the second one now. AMC must be pretty hard to work for. Apparently they are pushing for 22 ep seasons like network TV but he was unhappy with stretching the story out. I'm not sure if that might be a bit long.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Mr Chinn on December 28, 2012, 07:23:42 pm
I think it could manage. They upped series 2 to 13 episodes and I thought they were pushing it because it dragged out so long and nothing was happening, but with S3 they have 16 episodes and it's pushing ahead at a great pace. If they can keep the momentum then the show could sustain the extra episodes, I'm sure.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Joshua on December 28, 2012, 11:17:40 pm
I think with The Walking Dead that less is more. S3 has been great but it definitely runs the risk of going stale like it did in S2 with more episodes.

I think 12-16 is perfect, and I'm sad to hear another showrunner leaving as S3 has been excellent so far.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Roranicus on December 29, 2012, 12:42:39 pm
I think S3 is holding up really well and with all the stuff involving the Governer in the comics I don't think it will have a problem telling the story over 16 episodes based on the pace they are going currently, however if they decide to extend that into the next season then we may find it starting to drag out a little. It will be interesting to see what they do regardless of episode count though because after the stuff with the Governer the comics went quiet for about 2 years with very little happening.

Title: Re: The Walking Dead
Post by: Aneurin on December 30, 2012, 05:42:04 pm
16 seems like a good number to me. Not too many, but not too short. Shame the episode number has meant they've lost another grear showrunner though

They've released a load lately. Another one came out about two days ago. They are promoting the hell out of it. I can't wait!!

S3 returned this week with record breaking figures (http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/02/the-walking-dead-returns-with-record.html)! That's crazy good.

However, I didn't think it was the strongest episode. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mindframe when I watched it. Ghost Lori was pretty freaky though O0

I have to say, I haven't been so keen on the second half of this season. But this latest episode was awesome. It was great to have some more dialogue from Michonne, and she proved excellent comedy value. It also made me realise that I don't really like the Governor or Woodbury. Hopefully that storyline gets concluded in the finale and doesn't drag through to next season (although I'm sure it won't!). It was so nice to have an episode not there.

It was very minimalistic, and I thought it was great.

The second half of the season was good, but I think some of the changes from the comics were a change too far. I like that they diverge because it keeps me on my toes and I'm not always certain what happens next, but they watered down the Governer to the point where he was like a Disney villain instead of the insane psychopath of the comics. Michonne was badass, but nowhere near as badass as the books. Tyrese came in and they treated him like an extra, but he is a very important main character in the comics so I hope that gets sorted for the next series. The stuff between Michonne and the Governer was heavily changed, which I do sort of understand, but it makes their intense hatred of each other make a lot less sense. And as for that death in the final episode! Not happy with that at all!

I agree about the watering down, but I still think they were great characters. And with the Governer coming back they might still cover some of the comic stuff. The new showrunner says he wants to be more faithful to them so perhaps we will see more of the stuff they've missed out on too.

I can't say I'm thrilled with the Governor returning for another season! I wasn't a fan of the character so I'm sad to see next season will be focussed on him again.

And I know a lot of people hated the-one-who-died-in-the-final, but I quite liked her and was sad to see her go.

I've read that he will only be in the first half of the season up until the split. Don't know if it's true but if it is it might make it more bearable for you.

I couldn't believe she died. She did my head in a bit in S3 by being so blind and stupid but overall I really liked the character.

From what I have read in interviews, it was a last minute decision. It looks like they filmed the ending which was similar but with her surviving and then after they wrapped up they decided it wasn't working, so called them back for reshoots and killed her off instead. Way to lose your job!

Ooh ouch, really? I hadn't heard that! That really sucks

I read that a while ago on Daily Dead. They had an interview with her and she didn't seemed too impressed about it all. I think they shouldn't have done it, personally.

Me too.

She was annoying with the governor, but overall a strong female character which the show quite needed. Lori was an awful whiner, and although Carol has become stronger she isn't '****'. Michonne is good, but very different. Maybe now she'll have more time to shine.

What got censored? ???

Carol might have a degree of safety with her character now that she is the only female left from the beginning. I like her a lot and I'm glad she is getting more prominance, especially given how awful she is in the comics. Honestly, if you don't read the comics, read her character bio on wiki for the comic. She really is terrible.

Oh, hard*core haha. Good old censor ;)

I did get a little way into the comics, but then didn't go back to them for a while. No time I guess. I'd like to read them though and see the different stories. I hear Andrea was a lot better.

If you don't mind comic spoilers (the show has diverged so much I don't think it will affect your viewing) then I can breifly fill you in on both.

Andrea is better in the comics in some regards, but in others I prefer her in the show. I'd find it hard to choose between the two, to be honest. The bare bones of the character is there but ultimately they are very different people, despite being the same

They announced a spinoff yesterday that will be set elsewhere with a different group of survivors and not follow the comics. I can't wait. There's been rumours that it will be set in the UK but I don't see it personally. Will probably end up in New York or somewhere random in the US.

I'm looking forward to it! So excited to see what the writers will do with fresh characters. And I love that this is a world you can easily have a spin-off of.

I didn't get past the first episode of the spinoff, and I wasn't really paying much mind to that. I need to sit and do it properly.

I still very much love the main show but it's lacking something at the moment. Even with more recent episodes seeming to up the violence and horror, it seems to have lost it's element of threat. They need to bring that back a bit I think.
