Neville's gran in Philospher's Stone apparently. Only thing is I don't remember seeing Neville's gran. Must be a blink you miss her.

Well, I've seen that movie several times, she's definitely not in the American cut of the film.

In fairness, even if her scenes were cut she can still claim a credit, so it could be that that is what happened

All I can think is on Platform 9 and 3/4 in the background. Unless as you say cutting room floor. Might have to watch it again now & that would be such a hardship  :P

New Death rumour :-\

Quote
The Doctor will be reunited with his "wife" in 'Doctor Who' next year - before she is killed off.

River Song - played by Alex Kingston, 47 - was a hit with fans when she first appeared on the BBC show two years ago, and is set to return to the sci-fi series to spend time with her time-travelling spouse before meeting her fate.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's River Song who's for the axe."

River was last seen helping the Time Lord - then David Tennant, 39 - fight alien Vashta Nerada before stunning viewers by admitting she is his wife in the future.

At the time the feisty character claimed she would return, saying: "Then you will learn the truth about me and everything will change."

She has since re-appeared on the sci-fi series assisting the new Doctor, played by Matt Smith, fight a string of baddies including Daleks and Cybermen.

It had been rumoured that The Doctor's new sidekick Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) was to be killed off during next year's show, but sources claim it River is facing the chop instead.

A source said: "It's news to us. As far as we're concerned she is set to star in all 13 episodes."

First of all, we've seen her death. So she's not gonna die. Second of all, she's never been confirmed to be his wife.

Here's what I think of that article:

Yeaaahhh. Unfortunately for whatever reason that's what sooo many fans were saying after that ep like it was canon and stated that I nearly quit watching the show right then and there. I mean, c'mon...what's next, babies in the TARDIS? The Doctor giving up travel to play golf?

Shoot me now.

The amount of errors in that article just goes to show that there was no source, the whole thing was made up and its all crap.

Last seen helping the Doctor fight the Vashta Nerada - NO!
Before admitting she was his wife from the future - NO!
Told Ten "Then you will learn the truth about me and everything will change." - NO!

etc

Just saw your link about Daniel Mays on the homepage. Not thrilled by that I have to admit. Never been a fan of his & his work in Ashes to Ashes veered from awful to just plain bizarre, for me at least.

But you never know.
They managed to make James Corden tolerable last series!

I'm holding back regarding Corden, I'll admit, purely as I sometimes go into full blown rant mode where he's concerned.
Mays was also in Funland a few years back.
For me, he always sounds drunk when he speaks, which is a big annoyance.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Iceman on September 11, 2010, 09:11:02 pm
The benefit to being American is that a lot of the people who appear in Who is the first time I see them, so I have no preconceived notions. I know a lot of people didn't like the guy from The Lodger (Corden?) But, having no clue who he was, I quite enjoyed him in that, and was not turned off by knowing he was in it, having never seen him before.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: The Doc on September 11, 2010, 09:17:55 pm
That's lucky for you. There was a spell last year when you couldnt turn on your TV without seeing him being an obnoxious tosser on some channel or other.

On the flipside I have heard he is absolutely lovely in real life, but the persona he gives off is not so desirable

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Iceman on September 11, 2010, 09:20:23 pm
Right, Sigryn always tells me that "this person is a really famous British actor/comedian" etc and being in Who/SJA/TW is the only thing I have to judge them off of, so I guess thats actually a good thing...

Same here, I thought he was quite likeable.  I remember a lot of people were up in arms about Catherine Tate when she was announced as a companion too, but she turned out to be a fan favorite.

I put this in the non spoiler forum by accident yesterday, so I will put it here now. Treat it complete speculation at the moment, but I have heard a whisper from someone who is usually really reliable, that they are hoping to have Amelia back next series. Once I know more I will update either way

I liked her too, I know that it took a lot of time to get her scenes done as she was new to acting and is so young, but she should know the ropes a little better now.  As long as it makes sense storywise to have her back I will be happy to see her again ;D

Richard Clark has been tweeting from the set again...

Tweet 1 - More of the same today. ‘Bob’ wielding his weapon as the forces of darkness close in. All hope lost..

Tweet 2 - Well that was one hell of a day. Now standing in the set for the next ep. Absolutely brilliant. The art dept have worked miracles.

Tweet 3 - A days filming free of stunts, monsters, mayhem and madness. It’s barely Dr Who at all. Although there is of course a giant foot.

I havent put it on the main site because there isnt a decent source and it seems a bit more like wishful thinking, but if it turns out to be true I want you all to know that I believed it all along :D

Also, the Adam Rickett rumour has apparantly been dispelled as just that, a rumour. Lets all breathe a sigh of relief

Hi,

Just thought I would let you know that my baby brothers who are twins might be having a part in the new series. They will just be playing one baby though and taking it in turns. That's if they get it that is. I dont know anything else about it but if I find anything out I will send another email if that is ok

Oh, and it is supposed to be kept secret, so can you not say my name if you put it on your blog

http://www.digitalspy.com/cult/s7/doctor-who/news/a278151/moffat-teases-who-series-cliffhanger.html

Now this sounds interesting!

"Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed more details of the cliffhanger ending to the first half of the next series.

It was previously announced that the show's sixth run will be split in half, starting in spring 2011 and returning in the autumn.

"There will be a huge cliffhanger... that we wouldn't normally do at the end of a series of Doctor Who because it would be too long before it came back," Moffat told Doctor Who Magazine. "[It is] an enormous, game-changing cliffhanger for the Doctor, Amy and Rory. It will change everything for them."

Moffat promised that forthcoming episodes will contain revelations involving the Doctor's friendship with Amy Pond.

He teased: "You will see the Doctor's life change forever, you will gasp in astonishment at the true nature of his relationship with Amy and you will cry out in horror as Rory Williams stumbles to the brink of a tragic mistake." "

Suranne Jones (Mona Lisa in last years SJA and staring opposite Tennant in Single Father) has been cast in the Gaiman episode - http://www.spoilertv.com/2010/09/doctor-who-episode-603-suranne-jones.html

Quote
The former Coronation Street star has appeared in the Sarah Jane Adventures last year as an evil incarnation of the Mona Lisa. But in Doctor Who she will play a young woman called Idris in an episode written by Neil Gaiman.

Suranne begins filming her role on Friday and said: "It's hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who. I'm a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil's script and uncovered what's in store for my character.

"However, I'm sworn to secrecy so viewers will just have to wait until next year to find out any other juicy details!"

Neil Gaiman added: "Suranne is marvellous. She's beautiful, funny and strange. It's the kind of role that people will remember for ever, so we needed someone who was able to pull that off, and to keep up with Matt Smith. And bite him. Suranne does all three!"

I love her as an actress, so happy with this news ^___^

I remember reading a while ago another tease where he said Amy was harboring some big secret.  I wonder if that's what he's referring to?

Maybe when the Pandorica restored Amy she was impregnated by some DNA left behind by the Doctor?  Ha ha ha.  Babies on set.  Hmm.  I shouldn't laugh, weirder things have happened on Doctor Who...  :P

If this has been added in and I missed it, appologies to the poster :)

Speaking to this months Doctor Who Magazine, Steven Moffat has done what he does so well and teased some information about what to expect from the new series. Here is what he had to say...

So what can I tell you about next series? The startling truth about Idris’ new soul – even the Doctor doesn’t believe her! The frankly appalling revelation concerning the one person in the universe the Doctor trusts the most? Would you like to peek inside a cupboard that will chill your blood, or meet a workforce that will haunt your dreams? Have you ever wondered about Apollo Ten and a half? And have you already guessed that River Song is …

But I thought she was a one off guest appearance, not a recurring season 6 theme  ???

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: The Doc on September 24, 2010, 08:10:43 pm
I think she is just a one off character. He only mentioned her probably because we already know about the character. Thats my take on it anyways. Also, I have added 2 and 2 and hopefully come up with 4, but...

Richard Clarke tweeted about Idris biting the Doctor in a scene

AND

Moff mentioned her new soul

SO I AM THINKING

A return of the Vampires, or a new type of Vampire?? It sounds vampiry for sure though!

Do you think it really could be Hartnell? That would be awesome. Though probably too expensive to create to be true

Steven Moffat revealed via twitter last night that his son isnt a fan of his idea for the title of Episode 1 of Series 6. He wrote:

"Told my son the title of ep 1 of the next run of Dr Who. A pause. 'I think we can do better, Daddy.' Then: 'We need clever. Not cheesy.'"

Not really a spoiler as such, but its a bit of news about S6

That kid is getting quite the name for himself in fandom. I think he will deffinately end up having some sort of media career, but like Dak said, maybe he will even end up running the show someday.

I think its possible, technologically, to have a silhouette of Hartnell in the ep. I just hope it goes with the episode and is not there just to have a cameo.....

Would be a cool way to include past Doctor without recasting or anything.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: The Doc on October 06, 2010, 11:39:06 am
There is a little bit of talk that it will instead be shown on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day, but I think that stems from an article somewhere that said that Doctor Who would be returning 'sometime this Christmas'. Id say you can be about 98% sure it will be on on Christmas Day :)

I'm thinking this is probably bull, but I have had three seperate emails in the space of about 30 minutes claiming Billie has been seen on set with Matt Smith today.

Now, before everyone gets excited (or angry) I am pretty sure that Secret Diary is currently filming, so it could be something to do with that (though not sure why MS would be there, if it was actually him) OR she could be in the area and popped in for a nosey. Or it could be someone who looks like Billie, but indeed isnt.

I wouldnt get your hopes up, but I always pass on what I am told and this is the latest :)

Well, Matt Smith was in a Call Girl ep. And they were in that one movie together. So they could very well be friends, and like you said, Billie stopped in to see "the new digs"....

To be honest, if it was her at all, I think that is what it will be. I cant see a reason for a Rose pre2005 story, or for the current crew to go jumping through universes for her to make an appearance.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Exterminate on October 08, 2010, 03:02:22 pm
I hope this isnt true. If Rose comes back it will only be a matter of time before 10.5 shows up and I really wouldnt want that.

I can think of worse people who could return. I didnt mind Rose. She was better pre 10 though imo

Anyways, I just saw this. Apparantly said by Moff on the commentary of the S5 dvd

"You might think, for instance, that there are things that live inside clouds. I'm just saying that, kids, as a little nod to the future there."

Just an update of todays spoilers in case you havent read the other threads

- Episodes 1 & 2 will be filmed in November in America as an opening 2 parter
- They will be set in 1960's Utah (though filming may not occur there)
- River song will be appearing

Think thats all of it

Some casting information has been revealed for the first two episodes of Series 6, which will be filmed and set in America. I have never heard of any of them, but they may be better known to you lot.

Alex Giannini has been cast in an unknown role
Kerry Shale has been cast in an unknown role
Peter Banks will be playing a character called Doctor Shepherd
Kieran O’Connor will play a guard in the story.

If you want pictures and profile links, they are on the main site HERE (http://tardisspoilers.blogspot.com/2010/10/castings-for-episodes-1-2.html)

But no, never heard of them.

Mark Sheppard, probably best known to scifi fans as Romo Lampkin, the lawyer to Baltar in Battlestar Gallactica, has apparantly been cast in the opening two parter of series 6 as a character called Canton.

Come on, as if that would stop Moffat!!

How can she die twice? Especially when Moffat knew he was getting the show by the time he wrote "Library" and had Rivers story planned?

(If you remember when she was going through the book with 10, and asked if they did "Crash of the Byzantium" yet, we saw that. It was the Angel 2 parter...)

I think she'll be fine at any rate :)

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Peri-Peri on October 20, 2010, 10:18:43 pm
He did just rewrite the entire history of the world with the cracks story. I doubt she would die in this, but it is entirely possible that he would if he wanted to.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Iceman on October 20, 2010, 10:21:19 pm

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Peri-Peri on October 20, 2010, 10:23:20 pm
Perhaps not, but I do think he would if he wanted to. I doubt he will though because it would totally section off the Library episodes and make the rest of her story make no sense. Not that making no sense has stopped him before

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 21, 2010, 09:27:23 am
He's had her life planned out since the library so I can't see her dying.  I wouldn't be surprised if the cracks are something that he thought of while expanding her story in his head.  I can't help thinking that she is involved more deeply in them since the voice spoke while she was flying the TARDIS and the fact that she still had her spoiler book, even thou it was empty, at Rory and Amy's wedding.

I'm hoping for more clever timey wimey event in the future :D

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Peri-Peri on October 21, 2010, 09:49:15 am
I think she and her spoiler book were unaffected by the cracks if I'm honest. At the end of TBB the Doctor gave her diary back and said everything was back in it and he didn't peek. She seemed unnaffected by the events and her diary still had adventures in it which I'm assuming are the same as before. I don't get her appearance at the end of that though. How was she there? How did the doctor get her to do that for him if he didn't exist etc. That episode has such massive holes in it and it annoys me because it seems Moff was more interested in being clever with time than making actual sense. Rant over

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 21, 2010, 10:24:08 am
Hehe, we don't have all the pieces of the puzzle yet, Moff has hinted that River being at the wedding was odd and it will be addressed next year.  So they aren't plot holes as such, just a longer arc than we were used to having.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion

Agreed!  Besides, if she dies earlier in her time line he'll never have met her in the Library, and she wouldn't be around to help defeat the Weeping Angels or warn him about the Pandorica, etc.

"Time travel, you can't keep it straight in your head."  :P

I think once we find out who and/or what River really is, we'll have a lot of those answers.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Aneurin on October 21, 2010, 06:26:03 pm
I agree Dak, but if I am honest, part of me doesnt really want the reveal. I dread it coming because it makes me think that it will signal the end of her appearances, which for me would be tragic

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Exterminate on October 21, 2010, 06:37:03 pm
I kind of agree with you, but I am hoping that there is enough story there that they dont reveal who she is and then have her leave. The Doctor obviously knows who she is for a while before she goes to the Library, so with any luck we will get some stories with her that we can watch where we know the dynamics and it is just a big old fun adventure

Sorry, not fond of her. Wish she'd go away. Carry on, carry on...

Out of curiosity, I saw you say elsewhere how you are looking forward to the Gaiman Episode and it may be the only one you watch of the new series. What if she is in that? I dont think she is, but would you still watch?

I don't know. It'd be in heavy debate at that point, but Gaiman's one of my fav writers. He may even make her likable even if only for the ep.

If they give her a personality and char dev versus her as the perpetual plot device, tone down the "she's better than everyone including the Doctor" stuff with Daleks fearing her, knowing ancient Gallifreyan, and how to pilot a TARDIS better and all that, PLUS get away from the stupid wifey crap...then yeah, I may go with it. Especially if they make her a really badass villain, which in the face of all of that would actually be believable.

That's as toned down and kind of an opinion as I can give in regards to her. :) For all else...yeah.

You know, I sincerely hope so. She's about 50% of the reason why I have found much of Moff's new stuff to be a killjoy. He needs to learn RTD's lessons on what he did with Rose and why most of fandom was screaming at him to get rid of her already, because he did everything he shouldn't have done he did right from the get-go, which is try TOO hard to demonstrate how she's supposedly awesome with either no evidence or completely implausible evidence.

The Doctor is the main and most awesome char. He is the TITLE char. If you wrote a fanfic which introduced River, it'd be pretty clear what the verdict would be. Although her coming from prison with cuffs and all that suggests to me she's not all she appears, so...there's hope. Versus her being the Mary Sue of the Whoverse....

Please, Moffat...don't screw this one up. I miss my favorite show. :(

Do you think that in retrospect your opinion might change? Say, in 3 years she is still around, but by that time there is no more mystery and everything there is to know about her is known. Do you think you can accept and even like the River we have today based on her past/future plotlines. Like the last 3 stories of hers will fit nicely in and suddenly make sense to you in her overall story. Does that make sense?

Well, the War Chief has actually been seen by much of the fandom as one of the Master's regenerations. If this isn't the case, there will be combustion on MULTIPLE levels.

Also, would serve some of the fandom right for thinking this is some sort of soap opera with the Doctor having a wife. *eyeroll*

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: DAK on October 23, 2010, 07:44:26 pm
It's been a soap opera since series 1; series 2 was especially so.  The 'wife' concept came about while RTD was show runner.  I doubt Moffat would have got that past RTD without his approval.  He's the one who essentially turned the Doctor into an intergalactic playboy - boffing the Queen?  Really??    ::)

And yet he's persisted with it through S5, so I don't think it was RTD. Also, Reinette and River weren't soap opera-y? The man came from shows like Coupling. He's even mentioned during interviews he's not getting away from romance angles and plots and thinks the Doctor goes around doing everything in the universe cause he's a typical man, so RTD really had nothing to do with the playboy thing. But Moffat did and does.

It was RTD's show for the whole Rose story: the lovey dovey hand holding in series 1, the cat fight in "School Reunion" with Sarah Jane, Doomsday where he "burned up a star to say goodbye" (RTD wrote that drivel), the Doctor moping over Rose during series 3, the unrequited love thing with Martha.  RTD wrote "Journey's End" where Rose gets her Doctor boy toy clone.  RTD wrote the scene at the beginning of "The End of Time" where the Doctor blabs on about the virgin queen and getting married, so yeah, that playboy bit was his.

I think it's very unfair to accuse or blame Moffat for any of that stuff.  He wasn't the show runner; ultimately it was RTD's decision to put that stuff into the show.

Yes River can be considered "soap-opera-y", but in my opinion anyways she's an interesting character with an interesting story.  I'll take her story over a 900+ year old Time Lord lusting after teenage Earth girls any day.

I have to admit, I will be a combuster. I dont care what race a time lord regenerates into, but the Doctor (and time lords in general) should remain the same sex. If the Doctor was a man before, he should remain a man now. Assuming he comes back. I read on another a forum a long time ago a debate about whether the Doctor should ever become a woman and lots of fans said they wouldnt mind, but when it was suggested that The Rani or Romana became a man everyone went mad saying it was a stupid idea. It cant be one rule for one and one for another. I think sex should remain the same for all regens.

Just read a post by Timeboy on GB about the scenes in other parts of the TARDIS.  It looks like it's just going to be corridors rather than actual rooms at the present, they have filmed them in an old steel works.  No photos but it seems like it will be rusty and very metalic rather than polished and pretty like the console room.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: The Doc on October 24, 2010, 01:47:37 pm
I had word the other day that they were adding another part of the TARDIS, but I was led to believe they had built a set. I wrote it in here somewhere, but I cant remember where exactly. I think I was telling Peri about it though. If they have filmed in a steelworks, then my guess is it was filmed in Port Talbot. About 35 minutes outside of Cardiff. It has the largest steel works in Europe if I am not mistaken. Not sure if they would allow filming there, but it is the only steel works I know in the general South Wales area. And if they did film there I sympathise with them. Just being anywhere near that place smells so bad. Its about 3 or 4 miles from my mums and you can often smell it that far out. Its rank, so I cant imagine how bad it must be actually in there.

So it's unfair to accuse Moffat of having written him as having abandoned Rose, whom he was supposed to have been falling in love with during that season, for some chick he just met a few hours prior?

It's unfair for him to continue the wifey jokes with River?

Seriously, I just don't like Moffat's writing. Everything I've seen him do is what I don't like for DW. RTD had the Rose plot and went over the top with it, yeah--I agree on that. But at least he kept it consistent. And Moffat needs to take a page from him with River because he's doing with her what RTD did with Rose and why people were screaming at him to stop, including me--and Rose was my fav companion!

Agreed. I mean, Curse of the Fatal Death was done as comedy. Period. To do it for real would ruin the show in far, far worse ways than a suddenly half-human Doctor.

I've been rewatching War Games and I'm wondering if the plot point that Gaiman mentioned is the different time zones all in one place.  That would be very typical for him after all.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Roranicus on October 24, 2010, 05:19:18 pm
Oh good call. Have we had that since then? Maybe one or two things, like Rose in Father's Day, but I suppose that is quite different to taking people out of lots of different times and putting them all together

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 24, 2010, 05:27:17 pm
It was a thought I've had, I can see how the overlaying of each time zone would have appealed to him when he was younger.  So many of his stories blend two or different type of 'worlds' together, usually a magic or fairytale twist I know, but I'd love to see him take that further and DW would be a great platform for it.  It would also require a big budget with lots of different sets and effects when passing thru the time zones.

I'm really not sure if it's been done like this since War Games, and may be well off the mark, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I get sports. I love to play most of it. I just hate football (soccer) and dont get the point of American Football. I think Rupert Giles sums it up best...

I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby

:P

Just been on GB and found a couple of little bits.

Gambon's character is called Elliot Sardick - http://gallifreybase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3341846&postcount=1154

And there is some posters and photos that have been used that date the first two episodes set in America to mid 1969, somewhere in New York - http://gallifreybase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3334319&postcount=68

As a poster over there has pointed out, mid 69 would be right between Apollo 10 and 11 which may tie into the Apollo 10 1/2 teaser from the Dream Lord in the BB book?

Look at this picture that shows the American flag better:

That flag has the stars in a straight line, which is how it was when there were 48 states in the nation.

This is the flag, now, with 50 states:

Hawaii and Alaska were the last two states, and joined in 1959.

So whatever scene that is, it's before 1959.

Apollo 11 was 1969.

So it's a continuity error, or an earlier scene.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 28, 2010, 11:18:32 pm
There was loads of talk about the flag being wrong, but tbh I was in a rush so I didn't read it all.  May be alt universe? :shrugs:

Nah. We won't have Pete's World 2.

If it is confirmed to be 1969, then the British people have their American History wrong :P so it's just a continuity error.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 28, 2010, 11:25:36 pm
Lol, why go to the bother to find out what an older flag looked like rather than just use the current one if that's the case :P

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Iceman on October 28, 2010, 11:33:13 pm

Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 28, 2010, 11:44:36 pm
Maybe the flag photo and the photo of the posters with the date on aren't related then?  I wish I'd read more about what was said about the flag now, but I only had a few mins on a break at work to get the pics up on here :(

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Sandiwich11 on October 29, 2010, 12:56:05 pm
Some people are tying the fact that it's the wrong flag to River's line last week about how America was invaded a while ago and is now occupied.  Either as a flashback scene, or that the invasion caused the other states not to join the union.

Or, ofc, it's another **** up like Rory's hospital ID in S5 XD

I think if it is there then it is deliberate. With dating and whatnot they are usually very specific and spot on.

As for Rory's badge, there is no way that was an error. It may never lead to anything, but that was created purposely. Probably a ploy to get fans speculating. Which worked wonders

I personally wouldnt class Mark Sheppard as a particularly big name. Outside of scifi he isnt really that well known, and I imagine he isnt generally that well known in the UK anyway as most of the things he has appeared in are US imports. For series 6, Suranne Jones is probably the biggest name we have so far. Though I suppose for people outside of the UK she is hardly well known either.

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Oh-Wise-One on November 03, 2010, 11:02:51 am
I personally wouldnt mind not having many big names in it. They can often be distracting. All the fuss about James Cordon being cast last year kind of took away from the episode with many people saying they didnt like it just because he was in it, which is stupid

Amy finds something out, and River Song asks for her word that she'll keep it quiet.

Are we ready for timey wimey antics on the scale of the big bang? I know moff likes to go all out and I don't doubt it will be good but shouldn't episode one work as some sort of jumping on point? Too timey wimey and it can get very confusing for the casual or new viewer.

As always I find myself in agreement with Peri. I think timey-wimey for timey-wimey's sake is a little counter productive. Tell me an interesting story where the Doctor deals with a serious threat in linear time and I will be quite happy. CGI Monsters, Clever Timey-Wimey and the return of the Rani/Master/Davros/Dodo/Mr Chinn are all secondary to that.

I will say, in counter to my own thoughts, I don't think we have too much to worry about. Having watched the commentaries on the s.5 box set, Moff seems to have a good handle on things and as I've said elsewhere, IMHO we are in for a scorching s6-7 and I am feverish with excitement!

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Roranicus on November 12, 2010, 10:29:44 pm
I also agree. SM at times seems to get all clever with time lines just for the sake of it and as someone who follows the show religiously I have even been confused at times, so its not an ideal scenario for someone jumping on with the new series at episode one

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion
Post by: Exterminate on November 15, 2010, 07:47:57 am
I have to agree with all the above. Moffat relies too heavily on trying to be a clever dick with his stories as though he wants us all to be blown away by how confusing it can all be but I would be just as happy with a greatly written linear story

Uh, guys and gals, in The Writer's Tale, RTD says he asked SM about using the Daleks in The End of Time and was told by SM he was planning on using them in Series 6.  I think (I'm out of country so don't have book at hand) there was talk of a "reboot" of sorts of the Daleks.  Whether it meant just meant using the Original Daleks or the new ones created last series, don't know.

And I could have completely misremembered (time zones, you know).

I think I know what in the book you are referring to and it was for series 5. There was no word about Daleks in S6 up until recently because Moff said that he planned to rest them this yearand rumours came about that that was because next years Xmas Special was due to feature them

Some info about the Xmas episode:

Amy and Rory are on their honeymoon during the episode, and run into trouble when the pleasure cruise spaceship they’re travelling on finds itself under attack from “something very nasty”. The spaceship is orbiting an alien planet, which is where the Doctor is for a considerate part of the story. This therefore causes Amy and Rory to be separated from the Time Lord for the majority of the episode.

A spaceship under attack while orbiting a planet? At Christmas? Why does that sound familiar? :P

I assume the "something very nasty" will be the flying shark we saw months ago, lol.

Peirs Wenger:

Now the pressure is on us to top Series 5, and that’s the challenge we’re currently engaged in. That’s why we’re going off to the States to film for the opening two-parter, and that’s why Steven is coming up with more dark and complicated and strange things to inflict upon Rory and Amy and to complicate their relationship; to kind of mine the Doctor’s relationship with River, to reveal some pretty big truths about that relationship, and also to make some brilliant new monsters. We’re much more interested in new monsters than we are in classic ones, to be honest. I watched an assembly of the first three weeks of filming of the first two episodes on Saturday, and I e-mailed Toby Haynes, who’s directing those episodes, to say “You are shooting the coolest and possibly the scariest new ‘Doctor Who’ monster in years.” I really, really truly believe that. They are quite terrifying. I worry for the sanity of some of our fans. I worry for our own sanity! They are properly scary. They are really going to make the Weeping Angels look like a bunch of stuffy old statues.

Is this going to be like a general discussion thread now? I like the way you are doing it with the summary style thread. Its a great idea, but the other day I wanted to post stuff that didnt fit anywhere and didnt really deserve their own threads so maybe we could use this for odds and ends now?

Title: Re: Spoiler Discussion

Sounds like a good idea to me. Perhaps the name needs changing and then were good to go :)

PRG, that thread you are working on looks brilliant. So neat and clean and easy to reference. I think its a great idea doing it this way :)

As for the post about from Wenger, he makes it sound so good! I seriously cant wait for series 6 to begin now.

Also, while I am in a bit of a cheeky mood, you think maybe we could have a similar new thread for all the christmas stuff? Its scattered everywhere. I dont mind even compiling it myself, though I wouldnt be able to lock it :)

Hey guys,

Sorry that took longer than I thought! Glad you like it. Just got to pull all the other spoilers scattered about together now, but at least this thread is done!  :)

Yes this will be a general spoiler discussion thread from now on - I was going to break it down but there's too much crossover discussion of the various spoilers so it will continue as is with a new name - general discussion should do it - you know you're in The Spoiler Section so you're safe.

If you don't feel something warrants its own thread post it here, but big stuff should get a thread of its own.

If you want any of the old spoilers given their own threads let me know & I'll start them.

Roranicus, I was ahead of you - Christmas Spoiler list is started - great minds.

Think that's all. As you were  :)

The Christmas Special has been revealed to be 60 minutes long in TV & Satellite Mag. A few people had said that it was going to be 90 minutes but apparantly not.

My TV mag has it as being on at 7pm but I'm guessing that's not definite yet as pretty much everything else was TBA - makes me wonder why they bothered printing it yet!  :-\

I would say its more likely going to be 6.30 based on there being 2 Eastenders, a Coronation Street and an Emmerdale and they will all want to avoid each other. Either is good for me though I would prefer 7. I dont even know why, I just would :P

I don't like soaps so it doesn't bother me if they clash! I'll probably have to record DW anyway so the time won't really affect me.

Im not a big fan of soaps either but I have to watch on Christmas Day just to see which one outdoes the other for most tragic Christmas Day. So far Ive heard there will be murder in Corrie, cot death in Eastenders and a jilted wedding in Emmerdale. How festive :P

What time was DW last year? Wasn't it on at 6? I seem to remember it feelign earlier than normal

7 is a much better time slot but I doubt it'll get confirmed up till nearer the time. The papers/tv mags tend to estimate based on previous years.

Shame we aren't going to get 90 minutes - I was under the impression it had been confirmed as that. Perhaps with the series 6 trailer and the confidential it'll add up to the same. :)

Title: Re: General Spoilery Discussion

The way the Sun have made up their time slots it would mean Eastenders was on at 6, which I cant see the BBC doing. Its far more likely to be the other way around

No - there is nothing more than what is posted by Sandi . Essentially what Timeboy appears to be implying is that the opening 2 parter for season 6 is full of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.  :-\ Not exactly a revelation in view of both being written by Mr Moffat.

Perhaps it links to the rumour of there being 'two' Rivers and a future Doctor? Maybe? Who knows  :-\

About the Christmas Episode, from the BBC Press Release:

Its the deepest part of winter, the exact midpoint, Christmas Eve - halfway out of the dark. Amy and Rory are trapped on a stricken space liner that's plummeting through banks of thick icy fog to the surface of the planet below.

Only one man has the power to save them; only one man is in possession of a machine that can clear the fog and let them land safely.

That man is Kazran Sardick, a rich but lonely old miser who rules Sardicktown with a sky-mast of iron.

The Doctor's only chance of rescuing the ship's four thousand passengers is to save Kazran's soul and show him that life is worth living. For this he needs to go back, way back, to when Kazran was a boy with a life full of promise.

But can the Doctor put a song in Kazran's heart and love in his life, in time for Christmas? Can he bring him out of the dark?

Moffat in the Radio Times:

I’m trying to think Christmas! Crunchy snow and roaring fires! Scarves and stamping your feet warm and spicy wine and mince pies. Clearly I was in the wrongest place ever! Two days of writing nothing, and I took emergency measures. I downloaded every Christmas song I could find, closed all the curtains, and turned up the air conditioning to Doctor Zhivago, and sat at my desk in a big coat and mittens.

Unreality Shout have taken one sentence of speculation and managed to spin out a massively vague story about what might happen in series 6.

Doctor Who’s Time Lord will be cloned by aliens in a dramatic episode of the sci-fi drama next year.

An army of monsters from outer space will make a carbon copy of the handsome doctor – who is played by Matt Smith – as they invade Earth.

However, the Time Lord will only discover the clone when he comes face to face with himself as he investigates the alien invasion, and tries to foil the extra-terrestrial beings’ plans to take over the world.

His companions Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) also become confused when they can’t work out which is the real doctor and which is his double, and who they should be taking instructions from.

Another one for PRG to add and for everyone to read :)

The new Radio Times has confirmed that the Doctor plays the part of all three 'ghosts' in the christmas special.

Also, in new news that we dont already know, its revealed that Abigail has been cryogenically frozen as collateral on a loan that her family took from Kazran

That explains why she looked all icey behind that door

Title: Re: General Spoilery Discussion
Post by: TheDoctorDonna on December 08, 2010, 10:47:14 pm
I knew she looked frozen. I didnt think that would be the reason why though.

Also, just to add to the above, its also mentioned that Kazran controls the sky and the reason the Doctor goes to him in the first place is so that he can shift the fog to help save the spaceship that Amy and Rory are on

There's a BBC America "hot exclusive" vid posted on youtube; it's basically the trailer we've seen with interviews thrown in:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17e-AqtwDNM

Also, found this article http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/a-christmas-engagement-12447.htm regarding the Doctor's "engagement":

"With the TV Listings magazines for the festive season out now, various bits of info are starting to leak out on this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.

One of the most notable comes from the TV Times who reveals that the Doctor gets engaged!

So who is this bride to be? It doesn’t say, but Matt Smith is quoted as saying: “I read it and went, ‘YES!’ It’s very exciting and someone you all know…”

Another quote from a different mag has Smith saying, “It’s in [the Doctor's] past.”

Someone we all know - River?!   :D  Or would that be too obvious?

From the Doctor Who Magazine Twitter Account (DWMtweets)

What can we say about the episode? Michael Gambon & Katherine Jenkins are sensational, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house at the end...

Our favourite line (but we're not telling you the context): "Don't make my mistakes."

Oh, and the trailer at the end for Season Otter looks SENSATIONAL...

Was that an Ood we saw in the trailer? And the Doctor with a beard? Intriguing...

Lots more River Song too – and a stetson!

Thoughts?

This from Den of Geek on twitter:-

We’ve seen the trailer for Doctor Who series 6! And here’s where we try and remember everything that was in it! (Published on Dec 14, 2010)

After the screening of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol last night at the excellent BFI Southbank in London, we were treated to a brief trailer for what's coming up in Doctor Who series 6.

So, what was in there? Well, we wrote it down as fast as our little hands would allow us, and we spotted:

•The Doctor with his Fez in the Oval Office
•New fashion tips: "I wear a Stetson now," proclaims the Doctor. That's cool, too, he asserts. He might just be right, too.
•Men in military uniforms looking in bad moods
•A bearded Doctor
•A few clips of River Song, one of which seems to find her at least partially bereft of clothes
•Someone in a spacesuit
•Even though our memory is trying to convince us otherwise, we're pretty sure there was an Ood in there, too
•Plus, there's a monster in there we've not seen before

Now, granted, all of this may be our memory playing tricks on us. It had been a long day. But that's what we wrote down on our pad of doom. You can find out for yourself when the trailer screens straight after the Doctor Who Christmas special on Christmas Day.

Last night SFX saw the latest Doctor Who Christmas Special. Here are some very minorly spoilery teasery titbits and few random thoughts

The 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special was aired last night at the BFI (British Film Institute) on London’s South Bank (which long term Whovians will know was used as a location for “future Earth” in the Jon Pertwee story “Frontier In Space” – and hasn’t changed much since). On a suitably chilly night, attendees were greeted by a children’s choir (specially shipped in from Cardiff) singing carols (of course), a red Dalek (the most Christmassy colour, though it refrained from demanding us to “CEL-EB-RATE!”) and the TARDIS in the foyer.

Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Steven Moffat and guest star Katherine Jenkins were all in the audience, and the screening was preceded by BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson gave a introduction liberally sprinkled with words like “brilliant” (eight mentions), “fantastic”, “incredible” and “spectacular”. Then it was on with the show…

We don’t want to blow any major surprises, but here are some very minorly spoilery appetisers for you:

The episode is a tour de force for Matt Smith. Amy and Rory are pretty much sidelined as Smith explodes like a force of nature from the screen. He is magnificent
It’s fantasy, through and through. It’s a Christmas whimsy that pays mere lip service to science fiction. This is Moffat’s vision of the show as a dark fairy tale taken further than ever before. We’re predicting somen people with have a problem with this. Your enjoyment may be in relation to your ability to suspend disbelief
Two articles of clothing from the Doctor’s past make cameo appearances
There’s an unexpected continuity reference to the Tom Baker story “The Pyramids Of Mars”
The Doctor is asked for some advice that he cannot give
The Doctor gets married
Katherine can act. You might be worried about a singer who’s never acted before taking on such a major role, but she’s really very good.
There are more witty, quotable lines per minute than ever before
Some of the FX are outstanding, but a couple are, well, shall we just say… over-ambitious
The production design is stunning
It’s not the most action-packed of Christmas special. There are some great, exciting set pieces, but mostly it’s a character piece
Michael Gambon is, of course, amazing.
The names in the opening titles are all Christmas-ed up
It’s fish and ships for Christmas!
It’s very, very, very Christmassy, and quite emotional
There’s a trailer for next season at the end (roll over for spoilery info: the Utah shoot looks incredible, we think we spotted an Ood, and there is a mention of Jammy Dodgers!)
Two of the Doctor’s trusted aides aren’t quite so reliable
Parents may hope that children won’t ask them to explain one gag
The final shot would make a good Christmas card
The Doctor has one major costume change (oher than ones involving putting Father Christmas hats on)

From the S6 trailer shown at the end of the episode we get to see that 11 marries Marilyn Monroe and we also get a flash of the console room from The Lodger :O :O :O

From the S6 trailer shown at the end of the episode we get to see that 11 marries Marilyn Monroe and we also get a flash of the console room from The Lodger :O :O :O

Marries Munroe? :o  Is that in the same episode as Nixon?

The console room from The Lodger sounds intriguing 8)

Just a few things to chew over. If you look at the stuff actually written by Moff, rather than the stuff reproduced by websites and other magazines, he always says we will find out about the relationship between Amy and HER Doctor, not Amy and The Doctor. I think the 'her' might be significant. From her perspective he is the only incarnation she knows, but as we all know he has had many faces so for Moff to keep reitterating the 'her' part makes me wonder if there isnt something more to look into there.

Also, in two seperate pieces (RT and DWM) in relation to River, Moff says she 'finally introduces herself'. I know he said in the Confidential that we find out who she is but I think this is going to go on a lot longer than people are expecting. I keep reading everywhere people saying how pleased they are that everything is finally going to be revealed but she could walk on screen and meet the Doctor for (her) first time and say 'I'm River Song, local gun shop owner', and she will have both revealed and introduced herself. Its a total copout but something I think Moff would do while claiming to have stuck to his word. It could be a stupid thought, I just don't think we will be finding out that much about River in series 6

Regarding "Amy and HER Doctor": if it does reference Amy only seeing this Doctor, it could mean bringing back a prior incarnation.  Hasn't there been talk of Tom Baker somehow getting involved again?  And what about those pictures of McGann in new clothes and a Sonic that looks remarkably like Smith's (go check the pics, as they're somewhere here)?

Just wondering...

Hmmm..yes....it's always been River who refers to "her" doctor. Amy..as far as we know..only has knowledge of 11.

There do appear to be a few other possible references to 4...but I'd be surprised to see Tom Baker or indeed Mr McGann show up in person. Flash backs..... possibly.

There is always the clone to consider as well.

Just logging in quickly because I have just had an email from someone saying that the reason Amy and Rory leave is due to her pregnancy. Not sure if it is true or not but it would certainly tie in to that email I had a while back from that person saying that her baby twin brothers had been seen for the part of a baby on the show. Possibly wild speculation but it may be connected. Take it with a pinch of salt for now though :)

That could be cool. No peril, no danger, just life taking a different direction and so the companions have to leave. If true (and tied in with the email you had about the babies) then perhaps the Doctor pays them one last visit after its born or something?

Amy and Rory leaving?  Is there a bit of info I missed here?

Also, it was said River would die this series, likely at the break.  And someone said she's got another name.  Anyone wish to wager that River's "death" is really the death of the name, not the character, and only for a bit, as she clearly used the in the Library when she died.

Well a mate of mine just told me that apparantly the Nazi's and 17th century guys in the trailer are leftover fighters from the War Games who were travelling back to their respective times on a SIDRAT that got lost/travelled off course.

This might be completely wrong though. He isnt 'in the know' as such, but said he read it somewhere else.

Just found this:

So the MIB in front looks from the side to be the guy from BSG, Mark Sheppard, and you can just make out the Doctor chained up in the middle, but the bit that struck me that I didnt even notice at first, is that on the back wall is written 'A 51'. Could we say from this it is safe to say he is being held inside Area 51? It would also tie in to the shot of the little green (yet suited) man at the end of the trailer

Reichenbach was the name of the waterfalls where Sherlock Holmes fell to his death with his nemesis Moriarty. There was also an Irene Adler in a Sherlock Holmes story and one of the most famous Sherlock stories was Hound of the Baskervilles.....

Hang on, whats the name of that other show Moff produces...?

It is rumoured that Roswell was the site of a UFO crash in the 1940's but that the facility is maintained to the present day. On a completely unrelated piece of speculation, the photo of The Doctor with a beard could imply that he's been incarcerated for a considerable period of time...

They appear to be from the same scene. Same clothes, same lighting and background (though admittedly from a different camera angle) yet those marks have just appeared, so I think we can pretty much count out the 'drawn on' theory. I think they may be some sort of infection and perhaps the reason behind her scream in the latter?

These are set in an orphanage apparently, but I haven't been able to find out why that information is out there.  The marks are weird, Amy definitely has a pen on her in a shot we have seen before, but I can't make out why she would be marking herself like this.  Unless the pen is to change the marks that have appeared maybe; as a way of hiding or identifying her as someone else?

Title: Re: General Spoilery Discussion
Post by: Exterminate on January 05, 2011, 05:43:24 pm
See, now I thought this was set at the orphanage too but I think everyone may now be wrong about that.

Firstly, if it is in the orphanage (and thats episode 3 or 4) then it would mean that Amy has the marks for at least 3, maybe even 4 episodes as she has them in the opener too.
Secondly, she is wearing the suit jacket, which she was seen wearing on set of the opener. Obviously, clothes turning up more than once isnt much in the way of defence, but it seems a bit unlikley.

As for the pen, I think it might be a mini torch. There is another photo (I will dig it out because its not on here) where she is holding what looks like a black marker pen, but it has a light on the end of it.

If this is from the orphanage set, and up to today I thought it was, then I don't like the thought of these marks being another long plot point in the series. I want the episodic stories back :(

I heard that too. I also read that the 'big bad' of the episode is called 'The House'. The ep was rumoured to be called The House Of Nothing so maybe its some sort of ghost story or something, though I don't know how that would tie in with Amy and Rory getting lost in the halls of the TARDIS

Isnt 'The House' something to do with gambling? Like 'The House Wins' or something? Perhaps they have to bet their lives, or the TARDIS or something on their chances of finding their way back out of it and The House is the unseen player in the game?

Probably a silly idea but I thought I may as well throw it out there since I am famous for them :P

I'm not so big on gambling, but I do know of that term. Its actually not such a bad theory if there is a decent story behind it :)

I've found out where I thought those pics of Amy are
See, now I thought this was set at the orphanage too but I think everyone may now be wrong about that.

I've found where I had seen that this was in the orphanage, it was on the same call sheet that told us about The Silents - http://doctorwhospoilers.com/2011/2010/12/episode-two-filming-details/  So these must be from Ep 2 rather than later on which makes me happier that they aren't going to be dragging things out ;D

From DWM

Matt Smith: "There are some great monsters coming up in Series six. Steven Moffat has created the greatest monsters since the Weeping Angels. It might even eclipse the Angels for me . . ."

Karen Gillan: "I think it’s the scariest one yet, physically and just what it does. They’ve got one thing about them that feels almost undefeatable."

A couple of interesting tweets from Moff today:

Here's the thing, Steven Moffat. Even ROSWELL acknowledges the no-crossing-over-your-timeline thing. Come on, now. Tone it down in future. (http://twitter.com/joyeousness/status/25044765288435712)

@joyeousness Just in the future? I thought I might pop back and tone it down in the past too. (http://twitter.com/steven_moffat/status/25096417651458048)

and

@steven_moffat hey just rewatched the season 5 finally , but there is one question that keeps buging me, why can River renember the Doctor? (http://twitter.com/Dan_the_Rebirth/status/25115222196883456)

@Dan_the_Rebirth Because of who she really is. All you're getting. For now. (http://twitter.com/steven_moffat/status/25125293236686848)

I'm still liking the River = TARDIS idea :P  But the first one is more interesting, is he saying that he will be playing with what we have already seen? :o

I dont think he should. I always get the idea with Moff that he thinks if he runs around in enough timey wimey circles with his scripts that we won't notice they don't make sense or are stupid. He needs to just tell us Rivers story without trying to be a clever dick about it.

Title: Re: General Spoilery Discussion
Post by: Amuro on January 13, 2011, 10:14:24 am
I think Moff was just making a joke with the popping back to the past thing (as the tweeter said "in the future").

Also, I've been thinking about the silence/silents. They are tall, seem to wear smart suits and are, in some way, associated with silence. Remind you of anyone?

For those who might not know, these monsters from Buffy made everyone silent...To be honest they sound like the type of monster Moff would come up with!

Wonder if this may have been drawn on from inspiration. Karen recently said what the new monsters do is horrible...maybe it's something to do with stealing the voice of someone? More likely, I can very much imagine the monsters themselves to be silent (hopefully the Moff won't have them talking with the voice of their victims...again!).

As Roranicus can't have all the fun...

Was wondering about that picture of the bearded Doctor in A51.  What if... it's the Doctor clone, River et al rescue him, have adventures.  What if River winds up killing him (the best man I've ever known) without realising it's the clone, and gets put in Stormcage because of it.

I know, contradicts her (for her) later encounters with the Doctor in Series 5, but I'm sure, using the revised memory twist Moffat introduced in A Christmas Carol (Karzan 'remembering' only as it progresses) he could write it that way and when all is done, she realises she didn't really kill him but the clone.

Okay, who's going "wait a minute..."

It's possible I guess, but Moffat said not long ago that he wasn't going to mess with the Library episodes. He could have been lying obviously, but I think to the casual viewer it would become very confusing

Maybe River kills Omega. He is technically a great man, even if not the nicest or most sane. And she was wearing an Omega symbol - Ω - on  her soldiers uniform in the Angel two parter. Though by that point she would have already killed him so not sure why she would wear it. May be nothing, but definately at least a well placed coincidence

Title: Re: General Spoilery Discussion
Post by: Exterminate on January 15, 2011, 02:15:42 pm
I hope not. I don't want Omega to return, just to wipe the smiles off all the 'omega theorists' faces :P It makes sense though and is probably the strongest argument as to why/how he could return.

As for River, the opening two parter is going to be the earliest we have ever seen her but then episodes 7 and 8 will be even earlier for her again. I think we are pretty much working backwards in a straight line for her.

Its possible. The Third Doctor calls him his greatest hero or something similar. Moffat must have known the significance of the symbol but I wouldnt be surprised if he did it on purpose to send fans into a spin. Also, despite the name or a possible hint from Moff, why would a godlike Time Lord use a Greek symbol from Earth to represent him? For that reason I think it probably means nothing.

The Greek on the cliff wall included the Doctor's designation, Theta Sigma.  But Moffat also mentioned the name on the laptop had a significance ("MY[.b]th").  And you can bet the Omega on the Cleric's uniforms was not by chance.

Early in the series, either Moffat or Smith said the name on the laptop was important.  Sorry, don't recall where I encountered it.  Maybe on The Doc's blog ;).

But come on now, look at how they marked up that laptop.  If they had been concerned about giving a product a free advert they would have just blacked it out.  Somebody put a LARGE name and logo on it for a reason.  Even ignoring the Greek letter used for the "Y"... "Myth"?  A laptop called the "Myth"?

Just as a aside, the "Y" character, called Psi, has been used to indicate psychic or mental energy.  For example, on Babylon 5 is represented the Psi Corps, or telepaths.  I'm sure other uses can be Wikied.

It's likely that the name on the laptop meant something I guess, though I don't see how it would be particularly significant now. 99% of viewers probably wouldn't have even noticed it.

I dunno, I noticed - and I'm not one to usually notice the subtle things.  That was like a big ole sign waved right in our faces though.  There's the whole fairy tale theme throughout the season too - "Amelia Pond, like a name from a fairy tale".  "That's just a fairy tale."  "Aren't we all?"  I have no idea where (or even if) they're going with that, but it all seems to coincidental.

Just a note to whoever is updating the episode summary pinned to the top, Peter Hoar is directing episode 7.

As a side note, he is also the director who was apparantly doing a 1 hour Easter special, so perhaps the mid season finale is going to be longer than average and air Easter weekend? The kybosh on this idea though would mean a start date of March 12th which seems a bit early to me.

Four more actors have announced their involvement in the next series of Doctor Who.

Stand-up comedian Charlie Baker will appear in a forthcoming episode as 'Fat Man', according to his page at Debi Allen Associates. Baker previously starred in an episode of The IT Crowd and has also featured as a panellist on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Vic Murray Talent also lists Sold star Dan Johnston as playing 'Thin Man' in the episode. He has previously appeared in The Bill and a 2008 episode of BBC sitcom After You've Gone.

In addition, Spotlight claims that child actresses Fern Duncan and Frances Encell have contributed voice work to the next series. Duncan has previously appeared in an episode of Poirot and featured in recent Jack Black comedy Gulliver's Travels, while Encell has starred in Emmerdale and The Royal.

His CV was amended fairly quickly after speculation started as the hr long Easter thing was a mistake, it's just a normal episode.

Unless it wasnt a mistake but just wasnt meant to be seen. I doubt there will be an 'Easter Special' but if the schedule meant that the mid series finale fell on that weekend I wouldnt be at all surprised to see it run in at 60 minutes. Though I wouldnt be surprised if it was longer no matter what date it falls on. Perhaps it was only called a special on his CV because it was longer but is a normal episode, like TEH or Journeys End

This is supposedly some concept art from inside Rivers diary. Its quite interesting. Like Amy being the 'TARDIS Pilot' etc. Could be that Amy was the one to teach River how to work it. This is going on the theory that they are mother/daughter

Cool to see the blue guy back. If this story isnt earlier, then maybe he will be coming after River as revenge for her putting explosives in his drink. Assuming he didnt blow up.

The Doctor does NOT have a diary.  Yes, it's been said he had one in the Classic series, but not anymore.  Please go back to Silence In the Library and Time of Angels.  In both cases, when River says "let's do diaries" she is referring to the one SHE carries and compares where they are now relative to what she has already written.

10 and 11 do NOT have diaries.

I thought that when she said 'Let's do diaries' that she is used to a time when both she AND the Doctor have diaries and they compare where they are relative to each other.  But from what we have seen up to this point, the Doctor does not have a diary yet, but rather will have one in the future.  That was my understanding anyway.  Maybe we'll see him start his diary this season?

Perhaps you want to wind your neck in somewhat! Ten might not have had a diary, but you don't know that Eleven won't. We saw the Doctors diary several times in the classic series so who is to say he doesnt still keep one? Or do you have some inside info that proves he doesnt? The concept art above has never been seen on screen and the point I was making is that is could come from Elevens diary if he has/gets one. Perhaps you ought to read a post properly before you get so trigger happy with the caps lock.

I would really like this to be true. As there will be a massive 2 parter in the middle of the series, it would be great for the last episode to just be a really great episode rather than something with a massive set up first part and a huge second part that resolves everything. I would love it if Amy and Rory decided they were leaving, and they went on one last adventure with the Doctor and it's just a stand-alone story.

This would also make sense as Moffat has said he would only be writing 5 episodes and if we already know he is doing two 2-parters, would make sense the finale is only one part.

That would actually be quite cool. Like what they did in series 4 of Buffy with a stand alone as the finale. They could though, have Amy and Rory leave in the two parter and we could see the Doctor go off with his new companion for one adventure before the next series. That would have a very 'classic' feel to it

I like that idea. They would have to get it right with the new companion though. Didnt one of the Doctors get one story before the end of the series and then ended up being hated?

Yes, that was the Sixth Doctor and The Twin Dilemma.  For one thing, it wasn't a particularly good story - it had its plusses, and I know it has its fans, but it did immediately follow one of the highest-regarded stories of all time.  For another, the change in the Doctor was very extreme, and giving the fans the whole down period to stew on it perhaps wasn't the best plan

It would be a good idea, but I agree it would need to be done carefully.  A similar approach, of course, would be to introduce the permanent companion in the Christmas Special.

The Sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3375748/Downton-Abbeys-Hugh-Bonneville-swaps-period-drama-for-Doctor-Who.html) are reporting that Hugh Bonneville has been cast as a Pirate Captain.

Hugh said: "When I was a boy, the music and Jon Pertwee's doctor had me peeking out from behind the sofa every Saturday.

"I am thrilled to be appearing in the new series.

Not the best of sources, but the quotes seem to be fairly direct rather than from a mysterious 'insider' or 'friend of' so this could be legit?

If this is really HB's Twitter http://twitter.com/hughbon then he does seem to either be playing up to The Sun's rumour or confirming it to be true (depends on how you want to read it).

I did scroll down to some of the pics posted from the NTAs as well - he does seem to sporting a very piratey beard.

I do hope this is true  :)

The photograph of a Sontaran at some location filming earlier this month raised the quesion of whether the potato-headed warmongers are returning in episodes 5 and 6 (as might befit a storyline rumoured to involve cloning) or episode 7 (as we thought at the time). The mystery is now solved thanks to the spotlight cv of Dan Starkey who will be returning as Strax in an episode directed by Peter Hoar. So – Sontarans and Cybermen in episode seven? maybe the Doctor hasn’t seen the last of the Pandorica Alliance?

Hugh Bonneville's CV (http://gordonandfrench.co.uk/artists-profile-stage.php?ArtistID=57) is saying that he is playing 'Avery' in an ep directed by Jeremy Webb.  Filming starts in Cornwall next week according to rumours doesn't it?  I'm thinking this is going to be ep 3, and I'm started to suspect that we could be seeing something to do with The Smugglers (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Smugglers), one of Hartnell stories that up to now has only been partially pieced back together from old photos and audio :o

Henry Avery (http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/lennon/897/avery.html), AKA Long Ben, was a Pirate Captain from Cornwall and thou wasn't actually in The Smugglers it was his treasure (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Avery) that was being sought by Captain Pike.

Or am I getting excited over nothing and seeing connections I want to see, lol.

There was a rumour a while back that series 6 would delve into stories from all the past Doctors, but perhaps we will see an element from a story of each Doctor instead of outright plot lines. There are 13 episodes, but ten stories, which fits perfectly with ten previous Doctors and we know we have one from Patrick Troughton with The War Games and now one from William Hartnell with The Smugglers. Perhaps we should be keeping our eyes open for more from others just in case?

That depends whether they're major plot-points or references that alert fans might notice.  In some cases, it could be nothing more than like the gas-mask gag from The Poison Sky.  Or they could reintroduce characters or creatures that only that Doctor encountered.

Thought - for the Seventh Doctor, they could revisit the Merlin connection.

I'm enjoying this idea the more I think about it.

I think the one part finale is as good as confirmed now. Episodes 11 and 12 are in one block and episodes 8 and 13 are in the other. It might mean nothing, but the finale two parter has always been in the same block

In some ways I think it could be cool to just have a one part finale, perhaps an extended one with all the drama condensed into one episode, but I do like two parters with the build up and then the cliffhanger so I am torn about which I would prefer to see. Is it likely they would do a three part finale, similar to series 3?

If thats the case I would say that Adam Smith will get the finale. He has more Who experience and did an excellent job on The Eleventh Hour and the Angels two parter. Nick Hurran has an impressive CV but I can't see him getting the finale (unless its the one episode finale that some are talking about)

This was on Yahoo. I know its not a spoiler, but it might be of interest and I didnt know where else to put it

The usually smooth-skinned actor Matt Smith sports a tatty beard for an episode of the next series of Doctor Who to be screened later this year.

But the screen star has come clean and admitted he used a fake beard for the scenes because he did not have the time to grow one of his own during filming.

Smith, 27, said: "It was a glued-on beard. I wouldn't be able to grow a full-on beard like that in time."

The beard is seen briefly in a trailer for the series, in which he also appears to be chained and wearing a straitjacket.

Scrubbing the false fur from his face proved to be a nasty business, he said. "They had to remove it with a substance smelling like white turps," said Smith.

Going to show my age here I'm sure, but my memories of Lee Ross - regardless of what he has done since - always go back to Press Gang (ditto Julia Sawalha & Dexter Fletcher - not relevant, but true!) - I do also vaguely remember him in something earlier than that but the name escapes me!  :)

I have been messing about on Twitter lately and I came upon Steven Moffat's feed. He doesn't post often but a couple of his last tweets have been really interesting. Firstly this one from 25 Jan which said...

"I love watching rushes. Matt Smith is making me HOOT!"

Then today (1st Feb) he said..

"Tearing my hair out: "Why doesn't he just get back in the TARDIS??" How many writers, over how many decades ..."

He later tweeted in that he had sorted it. Very interesting that while he is seeing rushes (presumably from s6) he is still writing (presumably s7). It doesn't really add much to our knowledge of whats happening but an interesting insight into where we are with the production

I've seen Walliams act in things like Marple & he did a good job - it's just getting past the fact that it's David Walliams & we're so used to seeing him in sketch shows & stuff. I suspect that is why he's been cast as an alien - so they can make him unrecognisable should they so choose.

Not massively keen on this news to be honest. Not a big fan of David Walliams

What I will say, is that Walliams is a massive geeky fan-boy of Doctor Who and has been involved in sci-fi funny things before...

So is it true that there will be a new trailer in the next few weeks?

A guy on GB who is someone secret behind the scenes and who has been spot on the money in the past has said that they are putting together a new trailer with Nixon in.  But that it could change before being aired.

I'm not as upset by the David Walliams casting as I think I would have been before having Corden in an episode.  I find him far more annoying in most things I have seen and ended up absolutely loving The Lodger, so I'm happy to sit it out and see what happens for now :)

That pretty much covers all the bases then :D ( Is there anyone on GB who ISN'T someone secret behind the scenes?  :P ;) )

I'm assuming Walliams is being employed for his acting rather than comedic talents so I shouldn't have a problem with his inclusion. If he's a fan of the show I doubt he'll care too much WHAT he plays or how he looks. He looks a 'pirate' type to me :)

The way most of them talk on that site you'd swear they all art of the production team. How easy is it to say 'Nixon might be in the trailer, but he might not be'? Even I could have worked that out :P

As for Walliams, I aint thrilled about it but I don't suppose he would have gotten the job if Moffat didnt think he could work it, so it should be ok. Like Sandi said, they made Cordon watchable so they shouldnt have trouble with Walliams

There is a rumour circulating that lots of the stars from the various episodes will appear in the finale like they did last year. Not sure where its come from or how anyone would even know, but perhaps worth mentioning

Well it could happen I suppose but unless it was revealed by someone on the production team then I don't know how anyone could know that extra scenes were being filmed during each block. Last year it was a really well kept secret because they didn't need to get anyone back to give the game away. Also, would they do the same thing two years in a row?

This months DWM confirms that Gatiss's episode is no longer called 'What Are Little Boys Made Of'.

Other than that, this issue is VERY light on news

Just seen this from the mag:

Quote
Gatiss confirms that his episode was called What Are Little Boys Made Of? (as we revealed) but says “It probably won’t be now, because that’s a little too long … We’re toying with House Call at the moment, though that’s not very scary, is it? I’d like to call it Night Terrors …”

He reveals that the story focuses on a little boy called George “who is frightened of everything. He has a nervous cough and a nervous blink, and he’s frightened of clowns, old toys, enclosed spaces, vans … and particularly of something being in the cupboard in his bedroom. And the Doctor turns up and tells him that he’s right! I can’t tell you anything more except that the monsters are the creepiest things ever.”

Much prefer Night Terrors, but can't see that being the final title either for a family show ;D

I already like the sound of the 'vibe' of the Gatiss episode. I know many don't like him as a writer but I think he is really strong when doing closer to a 'horror' genre (I loved The Unquiet Dead) and this might be a little closer to the style of writing that Gatiss himself is suited to. He was always a poor fit for Victory of the Daleks (how Terrance Dicks wasn't asked to write that I'll never know) but I think this story will be a cracker.

I agree. I am not a big fan of his efforts past The Unquiet Dead, but I am finding myself increasingly excited about his upcoming episode

The Sirens, or at least a singular Siren, seems to be confirmed based on some dialogue picked up in the fan videos. Apparantly the pirates will only fight with sticks because they are 'attracted to the blood' and 'one drop and she will rise out of the ocean'. Rory apparantly then gets cut and falls under the influence.

Never heard of her. As always though, Google is my friend. I even found a picture of her in water. Its unlikely to be from filming though :P

Didnt the Sirens hang out around Greece? They should do a Selkie story instead. That would be cool.

Good thought. Its a good old Scottish tale and could be connected to Amy being Scottish or something.

When I was a kid my Gran used to say she would feed me to the Selkies if I was naughty :P

Around the Black Sea actually, but certainly a long way from Cornwall.  Selkies are cool.

I've never heard of her either, but then I try to ignore "supermodels" on principle (seriously, who decides they're "super", other than their agents?)

Update on David Walliams from the official website yesterday:

Quote
It's been confirmed that David Walliams will appear in the new series. He'll feature in a spooky episode playing a character called Gibbis.
Walliams said, 'I am a huge fan of Doctor Who and am so looking forward to working with Matt Smith and running up and down some corridors with him.'
His episode has been written by Toby Whithouse, whose previous contributions include Vampires of Venice and School Reunion.
Although best known for Little Britain and Come Fly With Me, Walliams is no stranger to the world of Doctor Who. In 1999 appeared in a number of sketches as part of Doctor Who Night and one of his Come Fly With Me characters faced a Dalek in a recent BBC One trailer.
News of his involvement follows confirmation that Hugh Bonneville and Lily Cole will feature in a forthcoming episode, starring alongside Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill.

I really don't mind only having a single ep finale, but I do hope that Moff does it.

I don't actually mind him returning. I don't like him very much but I didnt dislike his character. It will be interesting to see why they bring that character back as apposed to creating someone new for the role.
