Reports are coming in that Lis Sladen sadly died today. There had been rumours of an illness and Nicola Bryant (Peri from the classic series) has confirmed it on Twitter. Little else it known at the moment.

Her agent hasn't confirmed it yet apparently, but it seems it's true...

Please....please say its not true I'm so close to tears I really need a hug right now, she has left a huge hole in my heart </3 RIP Lis I love you so much and you will always have a VERY special place in my life

I still remember first catching her on School Reunion, which is still one of my fav new series episodes. :( :(

There are three unaired SJA serials that have been made and I imagine when they show them that everyone will be tuning in to see her go on one last adventure.

I didn't know they had been made, hopefully they do her justice.

I think the most shocking part for me is I had no idea she was ill - she always looked awesome.

I know I am not supposed to leave the other section, but I just wanted to come in and say how deeply sad I am to hear this news, and what a sad loss it is.

I too would just like to come and say that it is a sad, sad loss and she will be missed the world over. RIP

I just heard the news when I was checking the Docs site on my phone. Its truely awful. My deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by all and the Whoniverse has lost one of its brightest shiniest stars. Rest In Piece Elisabeth. You will always be remembered and treasured.

It just seems so unreal - I mean, 63 isn't really classed as old at all any more, and last time I saw her, she looked fantastic.

I can only presume her illness was kept quiet, although according to the beeb, that Lizo guy was in the know it seems?

I just saw the video the Doc put on the site and it made me start crying again. The song just fits so perfectly.

She's my mom's age, born same year. Was kept quiet and I'm guessing came on sudden.

I just wanted to add my sadness and regret at the passing of Elisabeth Sladen. She got me twice, once in the 70's and now again when she enjoyed her wonderful and throughly deserved renaissance in the SJA. The suddenness of her passing makes it that much more painful. My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues. And also with everyone around the Whoniverse who feels the pain of her passing.

Doctor Who will pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen when the show returns for a new series this Saturday.

The actress, loved for her portrayal of investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith, passed away yesterday morning after battling cancer.

Asked if a tribute to Sladen will be featured on the upcoming episode, a spokesperson for Doctor Who told Digital Spy that the show's production team are "planning something suitable".

That will be nice. Though I wouldnt be surprised if it occurs on a later date. Saturday seems a bit soon

The BBC has confirmed that there will be a dedication to Elisabeth Sladen at the start of Saturday's new episode of Doctor Who.

It has been confirmed that a special dedication will be made to Lis before TIA on Saturday, rather than after it, so you should all tune in a couple of minutes early. It may only be a screencap or a couple of words by the announcer, but you never know.

As yet, nothing has been announced about whether Nicholas Courtney will be remembered/dedicated in any way on the main show.

I hadn't seen the DT interview to Lis Sladen before now, but what a wonderfully dignified tribute. The poor fella looked genuinely shocked and saddened. 

Nearly £4,000 now and climbing. Very good to see!

I'm not surprised; he would've grown up with her and I know how thrilled he was to be in the same episode as her besides. It must be a serious blow....

Thank goodness someone downloaded the CBBC tribute to her onto YouTube...It was very touching, I was in tears at the end of it.

I found it really hard to break the sad news to my kids who are both SJA & Dr Who fans. There were some lovely comments made by David Tennant ,Matt Smith, Russell T Davies and others on both BBC and ABC (Aus) sites. I thought Sarah Jane the character was wonderful and it would seem that Lis Sladen was equally as amazing. My thoughts go out to her friends, family and her many fans. Vale Lis.

DWM have just tweeted the following information:

Um ... I just like to add that from personal experience I know how amazing the people at Meadow House Hospice are - looking after both the patients & their families. Good to know that Lis was in such good hands  :)
