Title: Saturday Viewing Snacks of Choice
Post by: Vampyros Adric on April 20, 2011, 06:22:20 pm
The choice of snacks when watching a season opener is a large part of my Doctor Who ritual. This year, I am so excited about the actual show that I must confess to be at a loss as to what to eat. So I throw it open to the great and the good of the forum to inform my choice.

If you could give me your reasons as well - my tummy needs persuasion (but not Enlightenment sadly):)

There should be an 'all of the above' answer.

I will be having lots of chocolate and beer in the afternoon. Then when the show starts it will be chocolate, pringles or Sensations (both on offer at morrisons) with more beer, and then probably a Chinese in the night.

I'll be having popcorn :)

As I could only choose one I've gone for crisps & snacks - although for some reason I've never truly understood eating crisps generally tends to lead to me craving chocolate (& vice versa - if anyone can explain this to me I'm all ears!) so I'll possibly end up eating that as well. Why? Crisps have become my snack of choice of late (could be to do with the re-emergence of my favourite flavour?!): cold glass of Coke Zero/Pepsi Max & Golden Wonder Cheese & Onion crisps - perfick!  :)

Hmm..... Haribo me thinks...

The next weekend mum and dad aren't going to be here, so I'll be here by myself... me thinks that is definitely an excuse for ordering a pizza in!  :) So I shall be going for the pizza takeaway next weekend!  :D

I'm pretty much the same as OWO, just without the crisps

See, this is precisely the level of detail and thought that I am looking for...

Though chocolate and beer sort of goes against my orthodoxy.

And for a glorious moment when I scan read your post I thought you said you were having Pringles or Sensorites :)

Damn you Chris!!!!

I've been clean for nearly 3 weeks! No crisps at all & barely any chocolate!

Now I have cravings!!  >:D

If anything, it'll prob be a chinese I reckon. Depends if we watch live or not - our wee one may have other plans involving Duck Tales  ::)

Anything. Put food in front of me and I will eat it. I plan to have put on 5 pounds by the end of the episode :P

See, I can relate to this type of unfocussed gluttony - I had Crisp Sandwiches for my first viewing of Time and the Rani (Pickled Onion Monster Munch sandwiches if you're interested)

You can get Phish Food as a Frozen Yoghurt as well as an Ice Cream. Don't understand the purpose of Frozen Youghurt really. Just cold stuff with bits in ;)

And I just realised I'm sitting here wearing my Monster Munch t-shirt  :D

I used two packets of pickled onion monster munch in a typical sandwich - they tend to crumble otherwise.

Quavers will do in an emergency of course :)

I want a Monster Munch t-shirt - I feel I've earned it

Hmm ... I got mine when they did them on the packets. All you had to do was eat them (such a hardship!  :P ) then send away the packet with a small amount of money. Keep an eye out for them to do it again ... not sure where to get one otherwise. Though I'm sure there's probably someone on the net that's made one!

I like Onion Ring type crisps in sandwiches too  :)

I promise I won't be doing that!!!!

It seems like a takeaway banquet is going to be the order of the day. The only problem with that is the lowest price I can bring one of them in for is £27 (I order a set meal for 3 people and then stab anyone with a fork if they touch my food)

If I am feeling generous I will let my loved ones share the crab and sweetcorn soup with 3 prawn crackers each. Chances are, I won't be feeling generous.

My takeaway is set out already. Though it will be slightly smaller than yours, Chris. I will be having shredded crispy chicken in OK sauce with garlic rice and maybe some chips. Prawn crackers are a must also. And possibly some ribs.

See, thats what I'm talking about :) My personal DVD recordings of Rose, New Earth, Smith and Jones, that one with the Adipose and the Eleventh Hour all bear the sticky fingerprints of high salt, high gluten takeaway :)

Wheres the healthy options? I'm on a diet.

I will be having onion houmous on pittas and some G&Ts. I might stretch to a Milky Way if I am feeling naughty :P

Incidentally has anyone bought a fez to wear while watching? I'm agonising between a fez and a stetson.

Pro: I have got a Stetson

Con: I haven't got a fez and would have to go to the costume shop tomorrow

I also think Guinness will be my beverage of choice.

Slowly, like a season story arc, it is all falling into place....

The problem with a stetson is that it could fall down in front of your eyes and in the few seconds it takes to move it you could miss something vital. You could always get one of those straps that goes under your chin, but then it could hinder the eating of snacks. A fez on the other hand just sits there behaving itself, and if it does fall it won't interupt your viewing

Or you could get one of those nacho hats and break it off as the episode goes on and dip it into salsa. Kills two birds... :P

I like this suggestion a lot - only problem is would I want to eat something thats been on my head or vice versa. And I might have to sing the Homer Simpson "Nacho Nacho Man, I wanna be a nacho man'

See normally I get enough provisions that make it seem I'm stocking up for a nuclear winter so I approve of this approach also :)

PRG, I would like a fez. Fezs are cool - I may have to make do with my stetson though as I think it makes me look cooler :)

Can I just say, I think this forum is the most magical of places - you are all pitching in and helping out someone who is clearly very confused.

And I thank you for it!

Stetsons are cool too  :)

I'd think I'd probably look better in a Stetson tbh but sadly I don't have one. Generally not a hat person in fairness.

I empathise - I could kill for a pizza myself! However, I am holding off so I can have my banquet tomorrow!

Should I set up the treadmill? It's been in a box in the conservatory for nearly 2 weeks now?

I want a treadmill.

I'm going to go for it. Its Who Eve after all. And tomorrow is technically Christmas so I can have another one then too.

Is that enough justification do you think?

I'm on a writing frenzy at the moment - I've got to write 1000 words by 5:30pm so I can watch guilt free :)

I have had a full English Breakfast to give me the necessary calorific boost for tonight :)

I have bought some Easter Eggs as well. They can be my pudding after my Chinese Banquet :)

See, most of that sounds good but I would have to double my gym time every week for a month just to work it off. I only allow extra colories to be used up on beer and other assortments of alcoholic beverages. I have my priorities in place :P
