Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where "summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime," Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's seven noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise.

Sean Bean as Eddard "Ned" Stark
    Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister
Mark Addy as King Robert Baratheon
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister
    Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark
    Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister
    Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen
Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont
Aidan Gillen as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish
    Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen
    Kit Harington as Jon Snow
    Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo
    Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark
    Maisie Williams as Arya Stark
    Richard Madden as Robb Stark
    Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy
    Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark
    Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon
Rory McCann as Sandor "the Hound" Clegane

So who's watched this so far?
I absolutely loved it!

Great seeing Sean Bean in Boromir mode, and the cast so far is absolutely spot on - I didn't even recognise Jason "Ronon Dex" Momoa at first!

And after one episode it was renewed for a second series too! Exciting!

I don't have the channel & I'm not happy about that fact as I really wanted to watch it  :(

My mate is watching it though so I'm hoping he will keep it so I can watch when I go over next *crosses fingers*

Never heard of it until now, but it sounds pretty good.

It sounds a bit LOTR, and I hate LOTR. I might give it a look though

I honestly loved the first episode, and I'm not that big on LotR either (aside from the ending to Fellowship & the battle of Helm's Deep).

Apparently the second episode is even better.

I'm downloading this later to give it a watch. I've heard mixed things but I am excited to see how it plays out

Not watched ep 2 yet, but looking forward to it.
I'm a huge Sean Bean fan.

So, hands up if you are loving this then?
Ep 9 tonight (last night in the USA)

I finished reading the first book over the weekend, so I'm
raging that Ned gets killed
I've been enjoying it, thou it took me a while to get used to the pacing of the show and remembering who is who ;D  Tyrion, Ayra and Dany are my favourite characters by a long way, and I love to hate Joffrey and his bride to be (Sania, or something?).

I have to be honest and say I don't see why the ending of the last episode is such a shock to many.  With this being a series of books it's fairly obvious that the main story is about the younger generations lives more than the elder members of the families.  I had been expecting it to happen for the last two episode at least, and it was done in such a way that both Stark daughters will remember this for the rest of their lives.  The way these two in particular will react in the long term is something I look forward to O0

I agree with you Sandi.  It was wonderfully done.  I am working through the first book now but I am not that far into it yet.  Really loving the show though.

The finale is this Sunday (or Monday for Sky Atlantic), so then you'll be able to have a full run at it, Double P.

It really is a brilliant show, and a few of the young actors are brilliant - especially Maisie Williams & Kit Harington.

Also, Iain Glen is absolutely brilliant as Ser Jorah. That fella has one of the most commanding voices I've ever seen.
Wish they hadn't killed him in series 5 of Who.

I just started watching this and I am totally hooked already. I'm only 2, maybe 3 episodes in but I just think it is wonderful. Such a strong and brilliant cast, and visually brilliant too. I don't usually like Sean Bean but he is great in this and his youngest daughter is like the most awesome kid in a tv show ever!

Despite my deep dislike for Sean Bean (who has actually turned out to be excellent in this) I decided to give it a go and now I am totally hooked. I went into town to pick up the books this week, but they were enormous and scary looking so I have left that for now. I am way behind everyone else though. If I am not working the night shifts then I like to watch a bit before bed, but I am usually so shattered that I only manage about half so it's taking me two days per episode. I got through a whole one last night though and it was great. I think it may have been episode 4 or 5
where they pour the hot gold over that guys head
. I'm hoping to get through the rest now I have a few days off

Yeah, series 2 will be around Easter time.

Related note - Peter Dinklage won a very well deserved Emmy last night for his role as Tyrion Lannister.
Absolutely brilliant.

I've been reading some awesome stuff for the new series, I can't wait. Shame it was pushed back to June but it's looking like it's going to be a great series.

Is it tonight that this comes back in the US or is it next week?

Well thanks for all those replies :-\

It came back but I've decided to wait until it's done and do a marathon.

It got renewed yesterday too for a third season.

I'm doing the same as Ror and leaving it to the end of the season. I just hope I can stay away from the spoilers

I realise I'm miles behind but I am starting S2 tonight. Who has been watching? Has it been as good?

The problem I am having with this show is that there are far too many characters. In a book you can keep writing until the stories are told but when you are commissioned to X amount of episodes then you have to make everything fit and in series 2 with the cast expanded, each episode has been fit to bursting. The finale was great but most characters were given just a couple minutes screen time to wrap their particular stories up and then it was on to the next and as a result it didn't flow very well from one scene to the next and everything felt really rushed. They'd have been better off making it a feature length of having a two parter.

It was good and for the most part it was a good season but I hope that they sort it out for next season. Ten episodes just isn't enough.

I saw a video on youtube at the back end of last week where they were introducing all the new characters and actors for the new season. 90% of them look like they could do with a good wash but it's an interesting bunch.

I got the books for Christmas because I loved the show and they are great so far. I can't wait for the next season to begin. March 31st!

I had watched the first episode and didn't like it - partly because I was very tired and fell asleep.

But then I read the book and the next two, so finally got around to watching the series and watched it within a week!

I'm now totally hooked and I like the extra POVs we get to see of characters who don't have dedicated chapters in the books. If I hadn't read the books though I'd be totally lost with who is who. Heck, I'm 1/3 of the way into book 4 and I still forget most of the characters mentioned.

Still, I'm super excited for Season 3 and the Red Wedding. That will be intense. If you haven't read the books, don't search for that or you will be massively spoiled.

I managed to get my friend hooked on this yesterday. For as long as I can remember I have been nagging him to watch it but he kept saying no. Last night I convinced him to watch episode one and he was all over it. He ended up staying until really late and watching the first 5 and has been texting me all morning with thoughts and theories about the rest of the story. He can't wait to watch the rest now. I knew he'd love it

I've just completed a rewatch of the first two seasons. I got mixed up with the return date of this and The Walking Dead and thought it was back next week so I rushed to get through them but it's not back until the end of March. Was fun anyway.

The trailer is so awesome! I'm super pumped for this season :)

I'm not sure how I'll like having to wait week-by-week though. I didn't watch S1 and 2 til they were both out so just hammered them out in a few days.

S3 just hasn't engaged me as much. I've got it all downloaded and have done for months, and yet I am still only 4 episodes in. I know what's coming and I want to watch, I just can't bring myself to be bothered.

Yep S3 was excellent!

My only issue is that Stannis is pretty dull. Alas.

So I've been watching this recently, catching my friend up who has never seen it before. We watched 309 and 310 last night.

It was really awesome seeing his (very physical) reaction to the Red Wedding, which featured lots of swearing and exclamations of "That was crazy!". It made me enjoy the episode a lot more as on first viewing I was a little disappointed. Episode 10 also was let down a bit following such a doozie of an episode. In his words "Nothing matters any more! These stories mean nothing compared to that!" ;D He was still reeling.

And as a side note, I just wanted to get other people's thoughts. I personally find Stannis really boring and unlikeable. Is it because of his character (he's meant to be pretty unlikeable), his story or the actor himself? I think its a combination of all 3 really. Does anyone like him?
