Title: Grey's Anatomy Discussion
Post by: Joshua on May 31, 2011, 11:24:40 pm
GA is my favourite show still on TV, second only to LOST overall.

Aneurin and TDD have just started watching so I thought we could discuss the show here. I'd love to know where you guys are up to and how you're enjoying it :)

Guilty confession - I used to synchronised watch this with my wonderful friend in Wales, but stopped round about 3/4 of the way through the series where...oops, best avoid spoilers, hang on....(runs to IMDB)...nope, seems I watched the first 2 eps of series 5, then gave up.

Mostly because I can't stand Katherine Heigl.

How does one do spoiler tags on here?
You should definitely restart again! S5 is a bit of a bummer Izzy-wise until the end where it gets good, but she leaves in early Season 6 so... maybe just start from Season 6?

Because you don't wanna miss the S6 finale. Second best episode of TV I've ever seen.
I'm up to date with UK TV (well except I haven't seen last week's) & tonight is the S7 finale. I have S1-4 on DVD. I go through ups & downs with it - sometimes having to take a break from it but I've always come back which I suppose is saying something for it! I also watch Private Practice which has a back door pilot in GA & features one of the characters  :)

Oh & TFD while I can't say I can't stand KH because I don't know her personally her character is one of few TV characters who gets under my skin & I can honestly say I can't stand - that's rare for me!

Sky Living - they also show PP  :)

I always thought the slow DVD releases were down to it being shown later on Five than Living but I don't think Five have shown it since S3 or 4 so I'm baffled as to why S6 isn't out yet  :-\

Oh I see! I'm yet to start Private Practice although I intend to get caught up with it this summer :)

That is weird. S5 was out last August so I'm hoping S6 will be out at a similar time this year.

Right, I've done a couple more episodes now and will do more tonight. The latest I watched was the one with the pregnant man. I know of PP but don't know if I will watch because at the moment I really don't like Addison

If you do decide to watch it I'd wait til the pilot crops up otherwise it will make no sense at all. I understand your reservations about Addi at the point you're at  :)

Definitely. For some reason I still haven't gotten around to watching PP yet, but I have it all ready for some summer watching :)

I'm not keen on her so far but I have heard that she gets much better so I live in hope.

TDD I think I'm only about one or two episodes in front of you now. I watched the Thanksgiving episode last night where George shoots his dad in the ass
Patrick Dempsey announced this week that the next series will be his last
Just thought I would mention as I read it last night

I know :(
And probably Ellen Pompeo's last too. I wonder if they will continue without them...
Title: Re: Grey's Anatomy Discussion
Post by: poprockgeek on June 06, 2011, 10:00:03 pm
Seriously?! I would think
that would be the end of it then - the Grey of the title is Meredith so I don't see how they can go on unless they big up Lexie next season
Title: Re: Grey's Anatomy Discussion
Post by: Joshua on June 06, 2011, 10:25:17 pm
Well yes, I wonder if they would make Lexie the main. The cast is strong enough to continue, IMO. Well, I'd still watch.

But Pompeo said she might not renew after Season 8 when they last signed the contract, a couple years ago. Who knows what she'll do now.
I slowed down on it for a few days but I am near the end of series 2. Izzy has just cut the chord and Burke has just been shot. I so want to see what happens in the next episode but I am going to leave it for tomorrow.

I'm starting to dislike George. He seems pointless. Izzy is doing my head in a bit too. Cally is cool, a good addition to the cast. Can't wait to see the back of Burke. He drives me nuts. I don't know much about the future, but I do know pretty much all of those leave (not sure about Cally). Derek is starting to annoy me too but thats more an arc thing than character thing. I am warming towards Addison though. Wasn't fussed at first but I think she is cool now.

@TDD - Yeah I totally see what you mean about George and Izzy and... ok I won't lie, it gets worse. But stick with it.

I hope you don't know what happens in the s6 finale :D

Oh, and Callie IS awesome, as is Addy.

I seem to have really lost my way with this show. It took me about 5 years to even start, then I got half way through the second series (or was it the third?) and stopped. I really need to carry on because I was really enjoying it

Oh you must! It's fantastic! I do rewatches and then immediately want to restart it all again, it's fantastic! My favourite show still on TV!

Post by: Aneurin on September 02, 2011, 11:12:34 am
I got back into it on Sunday and I have absolutely hammered it since. I left it at 3.4 and last night I finished 5.2. I can't think of a single episode in there that I didn't like but there were quite a few I loved. The mid season disaster of series 3 was great with the boat crash. I loved the story that kicked off with Jane Doe/Ava/Rebecca. I though the mid season disaster of S4 was nowhere near as good as the other seasons though with the ambulance crash. It was good, just felt a little small scale in comparison to others. I didn't realise how much I loved Addison until she made her first cameo a few episodes into series 4. By the end I was begging for her to come back. The conversation she had with Callie about being a lesbian was brilliant and just the look on her face was awesome. I had always been a bit wary of her, but showing her comedic side was a good move. Erica Hahn is pissing me off. I don't get why she is being such a nob to Yang. But more infuriatingly I don't get why Yang doesnt smack her in the mouth. In (I think) the S4 finale when Yang finally tells her to shut up and leave her do her job I was cheering at the screen, especially with the look on Hahns face. Derek and Rose was a bad move, and I am finding myself disliking that character even more as time goes on because he is so self righteous in the way he speaks to Meradith, but he treats her like crap and then its suddenly all her fault. The guy has issues. Even Meradith was getting annoying for a few episodes with all the family stuff in S3, but she has snapped out of it now and I like her again. Her sister is ok, growing on me more with each episode. I was glad to see the back of Burke because from episode one that character pissed me off. I knew it was coming at some point so it was just a case of waiting for him to leave. Same goes for George and Izzy. Two of my favourites in the early episodes, but both are getting unbearable to watch. George moreso that Izzy, but both still really annoying. Miranda and the Chief are always awesome, so no complaints there and Karev is a still a dick, but he always has been so you know where you are with him and it isn't too bad. Oh and Mark has also improved loads over his first few appearances. Really like him now, but hated him at first. And I think thats about it. About 40 episodes done this week. If I carry on I should be up to speed by the end of the weekend :P

Yea I am not far behind you myself now and agree with you 100% about what you wrote above. I don't get what the hell is going on with Derek. He was such a nice and grounded character but lately he is becomming so manipulative and mean towards Meredith in order to get his own way and get her to do what he wants. And the way he has started speaking to her friends and stuff. So offputting. On the other hand I have started to fall in love with Mark. He is a total skeaze, but I sort of want to dissapear to the on call room with him anyway :P

The hospital I work in is so boring in comparison

I'm about 8 or 9 episodes into Series 6 now. I hate all the Mercy Westers. And I hate Derek. It's getting to the point where I am screaming at the screen now. His ego an arrogance is awful. He really needs bringing down a peg or two

I am up to series 6 now but I have slowed down lately because I got caught up with other shows. Everyone keeps on at me about the series 6 finale so I am hoping it lives up to the hype. I know absolutely nothing about it at the moment so it will all be a surprise. I just hope its a good/cool one.

Traumatised. That's all I can say really. As soon as I saw that man I knew exactly what would happen, but it still didn't prepare me for the trauma. I was on edge the whole time and spent most of it all welled up and shakey. Dramatic I know, but it was horrendous. Brilliant, excellent television but it will be a while before I can watch it again I think

So glad you enjoyed it! Those was my thoughts too. I found it scarier than any horror film or TV show.

Especially when:
Miranda is under the bed and gets dragged out
Fantastic. Second best episode of TV ever, for me, beaten only by the LOST finale.

Oh gosh, I watched that a few months back while I was heavily pregnant. It stressed me out so much I wouldnt have been surprised if I had gone into labout ;D

I honestly don't think an episode (or two) of a tv show has made me sob as much as that did. They worked the tension and drama of that story excellently and I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

I still havent continued on to Series 7 though

TDD you must be on S7 if Christina is going back to the hospital to work because she quits after what happens in series 6, so you're closer to the end than you think.

I've been told to give this a go again. I got about 6-7 seasons in and then couldn't be bothered anymore, but my friend Lizzie said that the last season was one of the best, so I think I might pick it back up.

I wouldn't say it was the best, but it was definitely back on form as the season before was a bit rubbish imo.

I enjoy Grey's far too much to ever notice a dip really. Yes it isn't as good as it used to be, but there are enough elements/characters in an episode that they rarely stand out as being bad. For me anyway :)

Considering it's had 9 years, the quality of most shows dips far lower than Greys ever has. In my opinion anyway, I know a lot of people don't share that

So Grey's Season 10 aired last night in America! Has anyone watched yet?

It's so good to have it back. It wasn't the best premiere, but still decent.

I've been rewatching this of late. Getting towards the end of S5 now and Izzie is trying to organise the wedding from her hospital bed. It's dragging out in the middle but I remember it gets better towards the end of the season and I love S6
