Title: References in The Stolen Earth?
Post by: poprockgeek on June 29, 2011, 11:12:38 am
Just stumbled across this on YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJbUwCfwoKw

I've been reading around and I know that the Daleks weren't the only ones who tried, and succeeded in some cases, to move the Earth so it may not be this that Ten refers to here.

However, I think the the lines which appear in The Stolen Earth are nice references back to this ep (not sure if they come up in other Dalek stories - except perhaps 'resistance is useless' - think I've heard that elsewhere & not just from the Vogons in H2G2!  :P ). Just a lovely little way of keeping the modern show in touch with its roots :)

Nice.  In the context, I'd assume it's almost certainly a reference to the Daleks - that "can't be" suggests it.  The only other time I can recall the Earth being actually moved was in The Mysterious Planet, though the Cybermen moved Mondas, which was Earth's twin.

I'd agree that given the context the Dalek Invasion is likely to be what he's talking about, just thought I'd better mention that others have tried just in case  :)

This is a brilliant little comparison. I don't think it is any coincidence that both DT and RTD are seriously geeky fans of the show (and I love that little Hartnell speech "You poor pathetic creatures..")

Though I do always worry that telling the Daleks they'll have to wipe out all life on Earth might give them ideas 8)
