Title: First Scene

Personally, I think Hand of Fear would have been stronger without seeing the scene on Kastria at the beginning.  That way, we'd have been working out what was going on with the Doctor, and could have bought his growing trust of Eldrad, as we wouldn't already have heard that s/he was the "destroyer of the barriers".  That way, the transformation in the final episode could have been a more unexpected twist, and the sight of Kastria would have been something new.

What do you think?

I didn't mind it too much. I thought a fair bit of the story was obvious from the outset anyway, but I suppose that opening scene was as good as any at just letting the viewer in on what happened and why the 'hand' was there in the first place, though I do agree that without knowing it would have been fun to try and work it out along the way rather than knowing from the off

I was just saying in the R&R thread how I thought the opening spoiled it slightly by giving a lot of it away. It would have been far better and more fun to have done away with this opening so that we could have worked out what was going on as we went along. Its not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it takes a lot of the fun of guessing out of the early half of the story.

I have to agree. I liked the opening for what it was, but if it was taken away I think it would have really upped the suspence and mystery and as the Doc said, would have made it more fun trying to work out what was going on. I didn't dislike the scene though

I think the story might have been stronger without it. I didn't mind it too much though.

I didn't mind it so much. While it might have been nice to guess along, it covered a lot of what was going on earlier on that wasn't then retouched upon later in the story.

That sounds really confusing

I was just saying when rating it that I think that all the suspense of the story was sucked out due to the opening. The time they used giving the game away in the beginning could have been taken up later in the story having them work out what was going on.

I agree Nyki, I think the overall story could have been a lot stronger had we been given the opportunity to work out what was going on instead of being force fed it at the beginning. It wasn't a huge blow to the story and it is still very enjoyable, but I do think they missed a trick there
