The Doctor In The TARDIS

This is an era that I love and I would love to see it revisited. I know we have seen a fair bit over the years such as this, Romans in The War Games and The Pandorica Opens and a visit to Pompeii, but every story it has been involved in has been excellent and I think there is still so much that could be done with the setting and would love to see a return. Perhaps even a sequel to this. Maybe we could see Eleven landing just as One is taking off and we could deal with the aftermath.

I'm probably alone, but its definately a setting I wouldn't get bored of in a hurry.

I sort of agree and disagree with you. On one hand I would love to see more of the era because I think it is visually beautiful and a really interesting subject with plenty of plot potential, but on the other hand you can sometimes have too much of a good thing and with The Fires of Pompeii only 3 years old TPO less than a year old, as well as Rory always galavanting around in his (very sexy) Roman outfit, I think it could end up being overkill. They should definately revisit the era, but not for a while yet.

I certainly wouldn't mind more Romans (though perhaps they could try something other than 1st Century AD this time) but there are plenty of other cultures they haven't touched on at all.  It seems ridiculous they haven't done a Greek one (well, except for The Myth Makers, which is a bit different) and they could definitely do with a full story in Egypt.  Or combine them, and do Cleopatra 8)

I kind of agree with Nyiki. The Roman era is a great one to set stories in and has a lot of potential for more, but there are lots of other cultures and eras that haven't been used. Let's see a few more of those before we rush back to Rome.

(although I now have a mental image of the eleventh Doctor in a toga and bow-tie, which is rather amusing me  ;D)

I do love things that are set in ancient Rome so it would nice to see some more, though maybe not yet as we have had a few Roman themes running through New Who, as Roranicus said. The only way I think they could legitimately get away without leaving it too long would be to link it to Rory somehow.

I'd love to see some stories set in other areas of the ancient world though - there were plenty of other thriving civilisations back then so they have a lot to choose from & they could be a lot of fun.

Personally I'd just love to see more historical settings full stop. Modern day Earth has been really well explored since the show returned - it would make a nice change to go back further than the last 50 years or so.

I agree. It would be great to have that setting again but I think there are far more that we should go to first. It's probably not for here, but if we were 'going back' somewhere, I would love another run with the Aztecs.

Going back to South America and dealing with Aztecs or Mayans would be brilliant. I'd also really love another visit to Troy. Or Atlantis. I'm good with Roman themed stories, but I think we could go another few years without a revisit

Love the Roman settings but I agree that I am good for a while longer without revisiting one.

I'd like to see him go to Ireland. It seems absurd that after all this time they have never set anything there (not that I can remember off the top of my head anyway), when they have such a rich history. They are also overdue a return north of the border too.

Have they never been to Ireland before then? I'd never really thought of it before but off the top of my head I can't actually think of anything set there

No, there's been nothing set in Ireland.  That would be great.  There've only been three stories wholly or mostly set in Scotland (plus, technically, the final scene from Hand of Fear).

I agree that something set in Ireland would be good. Perhaps something set during the potato famines? If they went to Scotland it would be cool to see them film in the Vaults or something. Maybe something set really far back at Edinburgh Castle, or something set in Jedburgh involving Mary?

As for Roman settings, it seems to be quite popular lately as a historical destination (along with WWII) so while I like it, I think it should be left alone for a while.

I don't think there is particularly any need to revisit the era. Not for a long while anyway. All of time and space. Past, present and future. But for some reason lots get revisited. Always baffled me

Yes, get over here to Ireland. It's well overdue. I couldnt believe it when I heard a little while back in another thread (from Nyki, I think) that they had never been here before. Shocking really considering the history we have with Britain and how much time they spend there. I'm calling it now, we need an Irish companion please. Preferably me :P

An Irish companion would be cool, assuming the accent isn't too thick. I have nothing against it personally, but it could be difficult to understand for some. The Welsh accents on TW are often quite strong and some of my friends have said they have to use subtitles sometimes to understand, so the same would go with a heave accent of any kind I guess.

A trip to Ireland though is long overdue
