Title: The Third Doctor
Post by: Tardis-Console on August 02, 2011, 12:22:36 pm
Jon Pertwee was the first classic Doctor I ever watched and I loved him instantly. I wasn't born when he was on TV, but I have claimed him as my own. You always here lots about the different version of the Doctor that have been around, for either good or bad reasons, but for some reason I think Jon Pertwee gets overlooked for the most part, which is a travesty because he is absolutely brilliant in every story that I have seen him in. He is probably the most physical of the Doctors and he isnt afraid to get a bit pushy, but it really suits his character, and when he is doing the more comedic side of things, he has a brilliant comic timing. He really deserves more love

I agree.  Although part of me still thinks of Hartnell as the "real" Doctor, as he was the only one when I first saw him, Pertwee's my favourite.  He has everything - the arrogance, the childishness, the irrascibility, the humanity (or should that be timelordity?) and the heroism.

I definately agree that he is probably the most overlooked. He wasn't the first or the latest, the best or the worst. But he was a brilliant Doctor and definately deserves more credit than he gets

Jon Pertwee always put in a great performance and though some of his stories are a bit ropey, his performances are always watchable. He isn't my outright favourite Doctor, but he is definately in my top 5

I think everyone has been spot on with their comments. JP was brilliant in the role and it musn't have been an easy task following Patrick Troughton (though I suppose taking the role is never easy). His stories are consistently brilliant and he had one of the strongest runs of the classic series, I think.

I like him a lot. He seems more likely to get stuck in to the action that other Doctors rather than standing back and observing before charging in. I like that. I also think his relationships with Jo and the Master were excellent. He isn't my favourite but I definately want to see more of his stories

He deserves much more credit than he gets. As others have said, he seems to get overlooked when people are talking about who was the best Doctor. For me he was right up there with the best of them.

I like the Third Doctor a lot and he is the one I was most familiar with as a kid when they showed reruns, though I didn't really watch it then. JP always gave great performances I think and as someone else mentioned, his run is probably one of the strongest, if not the most popular amongst fandom
