Title: Victoria Wood Parody
Post by: Jamdog on August 16, 2011, 11:03:45 pm
In the 80's, on the "Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV" series, there was a Doctor Who parody sketch (which coined the phrase 'Ming-Mongs', often used to describe Whovians).

A clip of the sketch can be seen here:  [YouTube Link] (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4Tbe3W6hWyw)
An interview of RTD and Benjamin Cook, regarding Ming-Mongs is here: [Unreality SF Link] (http://unreality-sf.net/interviews/thewriterstale.html)

My question is, does anyone know which series/episode this clip is taken from?  I'd like to watch the whole sketch, but don't want to pay for the series 2 DVD if it's in series 1, and would love to narrow it down to one episode.

Thanks in advance...

Nobody?  ???

I can't believe that no-one here, at the fountain of Who-knowledge, knows the answer to this...   :o

It doesn't sound familiar to me. Not sure I ever even saw it. Look on YouTube and in the video info it might say where it came from. Failing that perhaps wiki could help you

I think I found it...

For any interested people, it appears to be in the Series 2 Christmas Special (7th episode of the series), broadcast in December 1987. At least, according to IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1118400/), this is the only episode that has Jim Broadbent listed as playing 'The Doctor'.

While searching, I also found a load more Doctor Who comedy sketches, and posted the link [HERE] (http://thedoctorinthetardis.freesmfhosting.com/index.php/topic,216.280.html) in the 'Random Doctor Who Fun Stuff' thread.
