Title: The Bannermen
Post by: Tardis-Console on September 12, 2011, 06:10:14 pm
Have they been in an earlier story? Absolutely everyone seemed to know who they were except for me. I'm still not even 100% sure if I know now. The Doctor took one look at Delta and worked out who she was, so has she been in it too? Or her planet or something? Nobody in this story, even the people at the camp, seemed in the slightest bit shocked by anything that was going on. Even the American guy, who had seemed pretty clueless throughout, said at the end that they were the worst Bannermen he had ever seen.

Yea you will find that that happens a lot in the 80's stories. All these weird things will be going on but people will act as though its the most natural thing in the world. As far as I know though, nobody on earth (or even Mel for that matter) should know who the Bannermen are

They hadn't been in any earlier stories (though I think they are in an audio which is set earlier, but that doesn't count I suppose) but I agree it is odd that so many seemed to know who they are. But I suppose that could be answered by them being some sort of galaxial threat or something?

They did seem a bit too well known for a random group of baddies. I can understand the Doctor knowing who they are, but Mel and everyone else knowing seemed a bit random. The quote from the American guy I thought was a bit of a joke though rather than him being serious. I'm not sure if all the humans actually knew who they were, but they definately didn't seem fazed by any of it or overly shocked by their appearance

The majority of the "humans" weren't human, so it's reasonable to assume they knew about the Bannermen, and we skipped Delta taking all night explaining about the situation to Mel and Billy.  I don't recall anyone else actually seeming to know about the Bannermen, but everyone seemed to take the whole situation in their stride.

It didn't seem to me that many people knew about them, but I would agree that everyone was very calm and relaxed about the situation, which is a bit odd

I found them to be a bit camp and rubbish. Not the best villains we have ever seen, that's for sure.

One question I have is what the hell was Gavrok eating? The video quality wasn't great, but it looked to me like a big raw leg of lamb or something. It definately looked like raw meat of some sort, anyway. Looked disgusting!

Possibly a big joint of ham, but maybe it was meant to be raw meat.  Hey, this must be a bad guy, he eats raw meat 8)
