Post by: The Doc on September 23, 2010, 08:01:54 pm
I was sure there was already a thread for this, but my head is in the shed this evening and I probably missed it. Anyways, if anyone see it, let me know and I will merge them.

So, the first new release to be added in is The Ark. Ive posted all the info I have on the main site, so I will just post the link

Good news indeed! I've heard tell this one is pretty good, so that'll be going on the shopping list as soon as it comes out.

(particularly good news for me since I didn't actually realise this story still existed - for some reason I had it in my head that it was one of the missing ones!)

I've got the audio CD of this and it is a cracker - can't wait to see it released. The more Hartnell we can get to see the better!

Dodo is suffering from a cold - an unknown affliction in this era - and as the human Guardians of the ship and their servant race the Monoids have no resistance, a plague breaks out.

They could have got Jackie Lane on the audio commentary surely. I dont remember her being on anything related to the Classics actually. I know the only other of her stories is The War Machines, but these things usually overlap. Perhaps the relationship between her and Doctor Who is still a bit sour

Off the top of my head I dont think she has done anything relating to the DVD's. Im sure she would have been asked, but I would understand her bitterness also

Still a shame though. I cant think of any living companion who hasnt participated in something. I guess she might end up being the feature of a featurette or something and may take part in that

Not that i'm one for tittle-tattle you understand, but I didn't know there was any bitterness between Jackie Lane (she was the actress playing Dodo right?) and Dr Who... Can you spill what beans there are?

Well they decided that Dodo wasnt really working for the show and fans werent really taking to her so during the filming of The War Machines, they decided to terminate her contract and keep Ben and Polly as companions. Instead of telling her that her contract was coming to an end and wouldnt be carrying on after the serial, they sent her a telegram between filming for episode two and three saying that her services were no longer needed and not to turn up for filming the next day. They rewrote the script for episode three slightly to make Ben and Polly a bit more prominent and Dodo was never seen again. She just dissapeared off screen with a rubbish explanation about how she had gone to visit her aunt. I think for her it was a bit of a kick in the teeth. There is a copy of the telegram online somewhere and its very formal and cold. If I find it I will post it

The Gunfighters still exists, but I think everyone's trying hard to forget that  ???

The Ark's a great concept, execution OK, I'd say.

Oh yea I know The gunfighters is still out there, but I meant that The War Machines is the only other one on DVD at the moment :)

Ladies and gentlemen and trees and multiforms, we have a cover. Well two actually. One is a large b&w draft, the other is a tiny colour picture of the final version.

Nice to see Dodo so prominent on the cover. I wasnt expecting that. Billy Hartnell looks a bit odd in that picture though. Wasnt sure it was actually him at first.

Strange as this may sound, im mainly looking forward to this for Dodo. I havent seen nearly enough of her and the semi controversy that surrounds her intrigues me a lot

I really want to get this just to see more of Dodo. Her character intrigues me and have only seen a little of her in The War Machines

Thats wicked. I'm not surprised tbh. It's not the best story I have seen but from what I know of it it was quite sought after
