Title: Episode 1 - Regeneration

Ok, so I did what none of you were brave enough to do and watched the first episode.

It was awful, but strangely watchable. It seems that Bob Baker is determined to distance himself from DW as much as possible, and K9 (from what I can gather) no longer remembers the Doctor. The plot was pretty thin and the kids in it were totally annoying, but the acting isnt too bad and an effort has been made to make it quite original. I dont think I will watch again, but at least now I can say I gave it a go. The redesign of K9 is horrendous and looks even worse on screen than it does in pictures, which doesnt help really, either. The fact that he now flies also made me want to kill things.

There are apparantly another 2 parts to this, but I think I will just give them a miss

I'll find somewhere online to watch the first episode once I've finished watching The War Games

Oh dear :(  I will prob give a go as it would be unfair to have an opinion on it without having done so more than any other reason, lol.

He doesn't remember the Doctor?!?!  What's the point in that?  Unless it's a clever way around binning the redesign and being able to bring him back into canon in the future maybe...

Sigryn if you make me watch this with you, or if you don't have those units in the South Ridge repaired by midday, there'll be hell to pay.

We can if The Doc has the swear filter implemented, because when I get back, it will look like Quentin Tarantino wrote the post, because it will be so filthy. :P

10 minutes in, it's very clunky and clumsy so far.  The fake accents are getting on my nerves too :(

Title: Re: Episode 1 - Regeneration
Post by: Sandiwich11 on September 25, 2010, 04:45:16 pm
I think they made a mistake in introducing so many characters in one 20 minutes episode, and it felt like there were large bits of plot missing.  So much time past storywise, a few weeks or so, that it felt like it kept skipping bits.

The accents were truly dreadful, esp the blonde kid, why out source filming and then get actors who can't do a British accent.  Let them do their own I say, is far less annoying to hear.  The 'police' doing the Cockney thing was just cringe worthy too ::)

Don't think I'll be watching any more :(

Right, well, that was a whole bunch of suck.

That episode had more characters than a Russell T. Davies Who Finale.

The theme song, or lack there of, kind of forces itself on you.

The plot made me do this:

The new model K9 is a disgrace to the Whoniverse. Even the Absorbaloff was like "Heh, how pathetic is that?"

The "dog whistle" is worse than a Slitheen fart.

Its funny that the show is on a channel called Disney XD since "XD" is an expression that was used very often while watching the episode.

I could eat a box of Alpha-Bits

and crap a better script.

When I tried to watch it on my computer, it actually spoke to me, and said "if you make me play this again I will download a virus, you have been warned."

I hope, for the sake of humanity, that it doesn't get renewed.

I'm actually wanting to watch it now, just to see how bad it really is!

I think if it was another subject I would be less critical of it, thou I still say that taking it to Oz and setting it in London just doesn't work even for these kid shows :(  I loved K9 when I was younger, but tbh I preferred his role in Queer as Folk more than I have since his return in NuWho :P

He worked with 4 and Romana in a way that perhaps isn't really possible nowadays imo.  His design is too clumsy for him to be part of the team full time so he's reduced to being the deus ex machina that flies in to save the day before disappearing off again :(

I watched. I hated. The accents were one of the worst things, but its hard to choose one standout bad thing out of a lot of them

You are all better than I. I saw a 2 minute clip and that was more than enough. I dont think I will ever sit down and watch a full episode

Well, technically no.

The one in school reunion is Mark 3. Mark 3 died at the end of that episode. The Mark 4 model is in SJA.

The model in this piece of garbage they call a tv show, is a regenerated Mark 1. Mark 1 was left on Gallifrey by the Doctor. He got transported to the professors lab in this and regenerated.

So yes, its supposed to be the same dog, but not technically the same one from "School Reunion"

I tried watching, but could only endure 2 min.

I agree with everyone on this...The kids running around with the light reminded me of the Ood.
The strobe lights reminded me of a poorly made haunted house.

Australian kids shows, in my experience, are always a bit naff, so in context this isnt so bad. Its awful, but watchable.

Post by: Nyki on December 19, 2010, 01:10:31 am
I watched this and wasn't impressed, but there was just enough there that I'll probably stick with the series for a bit and see if it improves.

I didn't like the redesigned K9, and I found the storytelling rather wooden, especially at the end, where nothing really happened - it just stopped.  The acting wasn't great, and the accents annoyed me.  If their actors can't do English accents, why not set the show in Oz?

I'm up to episode 5.  I definitely wouldn't bother if it weren't DW related, but there's just enough to keep me watching.

There was actually a nice little detail in #4, which suggests they're trying to get round the ban on mentioning anything from Doctor Who.  During a news broadcast, there was a news strap going across the bottom.  One of the stories involved a massive lottery jackpot having been won by a "Mr Smith", whose whereabouts are unknown.  It could refer either to "John Smith" or the computer - my money's on the Doctor.
