Title: Differences Between Broadcast and DVD Versions
Post by: Exterminate on December 29, 2011, 07:43:21 pm
I'm in the middle of doing a series 6 rewatch with the DVDs and I keep noticing little subtle things that I am sure are different from the versions that were broadcast on TV. For example, in The Doctor's Wife towards the end when the Doctor and Idris are doing their goodbyes, just as Idris' body evaporates you can hear her say 'I love you'. Has anyone else noticed this? I am 99% sure she didn't say it in the original broadcast. I've seen that so many times and never noticed it once, but the first time on DVD its really loud and obvious.

Another thing is during the Ganger episodes. At one point when a new Jen is being made, instead of a plain white goo, the one on the DVD has all this brown stuff mixed in with it, which again I am near certain wasn't there in the original broadcast. This is one of my favourites from the season so I have watched it a lot and I am sure I would have noticed it before had it been there.

Am I going nuts or has anyone else noticed things like this?

Haha I still have the original broadcasted ones on the Sky Box/DVD Recorder here, if I get bored some point I'll have a look if there are any differences! See if it is you going mad! :P

I have them stored so I could check, but off the top of my head I am pretty sure that there was no brown stuff in the goo during the Ganger stories. I don't remember Idris telling the Doctor she loved him either.

The 'I love you' was almost completely muted off of the broadcast version, but it was very clear that she said it in the clip they showed on DWC - that was the first time I noticed it, but after that I knew it was there so listened out for it. My guess is that they've just upped the volume on it on the DVD.

Neil Gaiman does discuss the "I love you" in the commentary for that episode. But yeah, it is louder and more noticeable on the DVD
