Title: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: ardalyon on March 10, 2012, 09:35:32 am In which story did William Hartnell best portray the Doctor? What story best shows what was great about Troughton's take on the Doc? Not the best story necessarily, but the story with the best, most iconic, or perhaps the most surprising performance by each of the actors who have stepped into the TARDIS. To start things off I would be tempted to say Hartnell's finest performance is in The War Machines, although I think there are better stories from his tenure.
Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Peri-Peri on March 10, 2012, 01:21:28 pm It's going to be so hard to choose some of these. It's hard to seperate performance from the story at times but of all the ones I listed only one, maybe two, would be in my top ten stories.
William Hartnell - The Daleks Invasion of Earth or Daleks Master Plan Patrick Troughton - The Evil of the Daleks Jon Pertwee - Inferno or Planet of the Spiders Tom Baker - The Deadly Assassin Peter Davison - Caves Of Androzani Colin Baker - Revelation of the Daleks Sylvester McCoy - Remembrance of the Daleks Some of them were really hard to decide and would probably change with a rewatch of more stories. Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Oh-Wise-One on March 12, 2012, 07:29:39 pm It's not an easy choice for some of them. Some though are very easy to choose
William Hartnell - The War Machines Patrick Troughton - The Enemy of the World Jon Pertwee - Inferno Tom Baker - The Deadly Assassin Peter Davison - Caves Of Androzani Colin Baker - The Two Doctors Sylvester McCoy - Remembrance of the Daleks Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Slfriend79 on March 13, 2012, 01:12:34 pm William Hartnell - The Ark
Patrick Troughton - The Tomb Of The Cybermen Jon Pertwee - Terror Of The Autons Tom Baker - The Deadly Assassin Peter Davison - Arc Of Infinity Colin Baker - Revelation Of The Daleks Sylvester McCoy - The Curse Of Fenric Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Nyki on March 14, 2012, 09:56:28 pm As with most of these things, I'd probably give some of the answers differently yesterday or tomorrow, but:
William Hartnell - The Aztecs Patrick Troughton - The War Games Jon Pertwee - Planet of the Spiders Tom Baker - The Deadly Assassin Peter Davison - The Caves of Androzani Colin Baker - Mindwarp Sylvester McCoy - The Curse of Fenric Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: ardalyon on March 16, 2012, 07:42:40 pm Yes, its difficult when many of the episodes are ones you saw ages ago. That's why I only committed myself to Hartnell. For Troughton I would probably go for The War Games. I will also give Remembrance of the Daleks for Sylvester McCoy (he is easy because he only had maybe 2 stories that I really liked)
Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: ardalyon on March 16, 2012, 07:44:13 pm Oh, and I'll give The Empty Child for Ecclestone, if NuWho counts. Again, that two-parter was the only story I really liked.
Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Vampyros Adric on March 17, 2012, 09:04:43 am Hmmm, a good question...
WH - The Daleks ("Yes, they dare, and we must dare to stop them") PT - Tomb of the Cybermen (so many good lines) JP - The Daemons (The end speech to Azal) TB - Genesis of the Daleks (the best performance of the Doctor in the best story) PD - The Five Doctors (he rose above the others and established himself as the 'lead' Doctor) CB - Terror of the Vervoids (a vintage performance and should have been the template for his era) SM - Remembrance of the Daleks (almost flawless and sublime - a wonderful mix of all the other Doctors) CE - Empty Child/Doctor Dances (only one season but what a season) DT - School Reunion (not the greatest story, but his verbal jousting with Tony Head was amazing) MS - The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon ("don't play games with me. Don't ever ever think you're capable of that") Title: Re: Best performances by the Doctor Post by: Nyki on March 18, 2012, 02:09:31 am Quote WH - The Daleks ("Yes, they dare, and we must dare to stop them") That's from Daleks Invasion of Earth :-\ |
