The Second Doctor was the second incarnation of the Time Lord known as the Doctor. Though outwardly warm, bumbling, and somewhat clownish, this version of the Doctor had a darker, more cunning aspect to his personality — one which he usually kept hidden in order to better carry out his plans.

He travelled with a number of companions. He had several adventures with his previous self's last assistants, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright, before adding Highland Scot Jamie McCrimmon to the mix. After a while, Ben and Polly left, to be replaced by Victoria Waterfield, a woman orphaned by the Daleks. In time, she too left, and he made a new friend in the mentally gifted Zoe Heriot. At some point he also travelled with his grandchildren, John and Gillian.

His adventures came to an end when he at last called on his people for help with the evil machinations of the War Lord. Though the Time Lords did indeed render assistance, they also condemned him to exile on Earth and a new body. The Celestial Intervention Agency was able to stay the execution of this sentence for a while. During these later years of his life, the Second Doctor variously carried out covert operations for the CIA and lived in luxury and fame in the heart of 1960s London. Eventually, though, Time Lord justice reasserted itself, and the Doctor was indeed forced to regenerate into his third body.

Patrick Troughton is as great as he always was. He's obviously older and at times it shows more than others, but he is always worth the time to watch.

It was so good to see PT again. He was such a sport. He fell into the role, I felt, as though he had never left it.

I think at times he was noticeably older but PT still, as always, managed to pull of an amazing, energetic performance as the Doctor. One of, if not the greatest we've had

He's always wonderful, and this was no exception.

The best of the classic Doctors by a long distance, I think. With so much of his stuff lost, this is a great chance to see a little bit more of him. He was as awesome here as he ever was.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said up to this point. Patrick Troughton always put everything into playing the Doctor and he always seemed like he was having lots of fun with it which just makes him more watchable

PT is defiantly one of the better Doctors to date. He set so many personality quirks for the Doctor, and it was nice to see him willing to come back to shoot more, and do an excellent job.

More than any other actor who took the role (with the possible exception of Peter Davison) Troughton had (and has) the biggest profile outside of the show. A recognised film star and someone who fell in to work all of his career. He was a class act as the Doctor and amazing in this role. I have to say he wasn't my very favourite Doctor (Pertwee had better stories and Tom Baker was just brilliant) but he was extremely special and I always loved his performances.

I think Two was just the perfect fit for Six. I don't think a pairing with any of the other Doctors would have worked so well. Too soon for 5, Four would have brought about the perm wars, Three wouldn't have had the patience to deal with him and I think the First Doctor might have tried to kill him. I think the Second Doctor played off against him brilliantly.
