Title: Limited Editions

What are your thoughts on the re-release of stories already on DVD?

I saw in one thread some complaints, especially regarding Airlock being on a reissue, but I think personally that sometimes they are a great thing. Some of the earlier releases are so lacking in good bonus materials and some have some real bad quality episodes on them. If they are cleaned up and provide more features then I really don't mind getting them again. And if you don't want two you can always make your money back by chucking the earlier one on eBay or something.

2Entertain mentioned a while back that there are at least 25 others that are being looked at for consideration. I think anything that is older than 5-6 years when they reach the last release will get a new re-issue. It wouldn't surprise me if they did some sort of complete set, either for the whole series or with individual Doctors which will again include loads of stuff we don't already have.

There are some that I think could do with a nice update. The Beginning box set is severely lacking in good material, for example, but there are others, like last years Vengeance on Varos, that bring little new, need no restoration work and just seem like completely random choices.

I've never fully understood the complaints about SE's. Nobody is forced to buy them. I get why people are miffed about The Aztec re-release because of Airlock. That bugged me too, but that aside I think they are fine enough. If you want more extras then they are great, if not then you aren't missing out by not purchasing them.

I can see where the frustration lies. If you go out and buy something that you are collecting, you don't expect them to release a better version a few years later which includes stuff you don't have. It's not like a computer, for example, where you know the software will go out of date and need upgrading after a while. When you buy the DVDs you don't expect them to be upgraded. It's good to have more bonus features, but why not just pack out the original releases instead?

The Airlock issue is a pain in the arse. I want it but I am not wolling to shell out 20 quid for a DVD I already have. In instances like this reissues just seem like a way to make more money
