The Seventh Doctor was the seventh incarnation of the Time Lord known as the Doctor. Originally an eccentric, light-hearted buffoon, this incarnation's jolly persona eventually darkened into that of a mysterious, cunning manipulator to properly combat the return of Fenric.

Like his immediate predecessor, the Seventh Doctor continued to travel with Melanie Bush. Though she was found his new persona hard to get used to, the Doctor eventually won her over by the time that she left with Sabalom Glitz to help him reform.

During his last adventure with Mel, the Doctor gained a new companion in the troubled 1980s teenager Ace. The Doctor did his best to try helping heal the psychological wounds in Ace by helping her overcome or come to terms with her past misdeeds or fears. Though he initially planned on returning Ace home, they ultimately travelled together for several years. How they were separated remains unknown.

Later in his life, the Seventh Doctor regenerated in San Francisco on 31 December 1999 after Dr. Grace Holloway performed exploratory surgery on him. The regeneration itself was delayed due to the anaesthesia.

Brilliant. McCoy was such a strong actor and Doctor and he definitely deserves more recognition as such. He was brilliant throughout the whole story.

I agree with the above. McCoy was the first Doctor to ever knock Tom Baker from the top spot in the annual Best Doctor poll in DWM and there is a good reason for that.

McCoy was brilliant, once they got his character right in his second and third series, and I think this is one of his strongest performances.

Great showing from old Sly. Never upstaged, but always fully accepting of others taking the light, like Ace in this story. They complimented each other really well.

The Seventh Doctor was a lot funnier in this than I ever remember him being. Perhaps I've just not paid much mind to it before, but he made me chuckle a few times in this one.
