Title: Captain Jack Harkness In The Parting Of The Ways
Post by: BeeSC on October 16, 2010, 02:15:03 am
OK, so I think that I will get glares from Iceman and I apologize in advance.

Ever since I saw that episode, I always wondered, everyone that got exterminated turned to dust which is why when Rose said "I bring life" Jack was the only one brought back to life.

So here's my question: Why didn't he turn to dust?

I know that if he did he wouldn't be immortal now, which is something I'm not complaining about.

And if he wasn't the only one that didn't turn to dust, might there be others out there just like him?

I looked to see if there was another thread like this one but I didn't find one and I'm not sure if I posted it in the right place.

From what I remember, it just turned the daleks into dust. Not everything. I mean, The Doctor, Rose, Jack (and I assume all the dead people at floor one) were still "whole". She targeted the "Dalek Atoms" and divided them.

Besides, Jacks atoms don't get divided. He divides atoms! :P

You're right, I just re-watched it, they don't turn to dust.  Bust still my second question remains:

Might there be others just like him?

I have always wondered about this. If Rose 'brought life' then surely she gave life back to everyone who was exterminated, and not just jack. Obviously for timing and whatever they only showed Jack being brought back, but her speech didnt seem like it was only intended for Jack. After all, she didnt technically know that he was even dead. I think Lynda is still out there somewhere :D

I think it was probably only Jack that came back rather than everyone who died. You never know though I guess. Lynda is in Eastenders now so I dont see her making a return, however awesome it may be

They brought back Jack purely cos he was channelling Han Solo for that 2 parter.
And cos he's a legend.

I always liked Lynda-with-a-Y so I'm happy with the idea that she gets brought back, tho you could argue that she'd just die again seeing as the Dalek blew out the window where she was.  >:D

At this point in the episode, she had both the power and knowledge of a T.A.R.D.I.S. and the emotion of a human, so even though she'd be able to bring everyone to life at once, she wouldn't think to immediately, but rather think of those closest to her first. So she began bringing people to life, starting with Jack. After this, she was interrupted, so she didn't have a chance to revive everyone, causing Jack to be the only immortal character.

I always assumed that Rose brought Jack, specifically, back intentionally. She probably didn't give much thought to the others. Just solving the immediate issues. But who knows, maybe she did save the others?
