Title: Meglos
Post by: Tardis-Console on September 12, 2013, 11:02:09 am
Up until quite late in the writing stage, Gareth Roberts was going to have Meglos return and be the villain of the story. I'm not sure how that would have worked out bt would you have liked to see him return?

Not particularly.  I don't think Meglos is a particularly good story - the only real reason to watch it is for Jackie Hill.  He'd be a long way down my list of villains I'd like to see back.

It would have had to have been a very different story with him involved, surely. Perhaps it would have been great, but based on Meglos last appearance I don't feel like we've missed out!

Just seen this online.

Gareth Roberts, the writer of this episode, revealed in an interview in Doctor Who Magazine Issue 423 that he had planned to use the classic enemy Meglos in this story, but decided against it after the similar-looking aliens the Vinvocci made an appearance in TV: The End of Time. The magazine also showed an early draft of the script which showed the meeting of the Eleventh Doctor and Meglos in which Meglos remembered the Doctor but the Doctor didn't remember Meglos.

I just can't see how he would have fit in without the whole story being different. I don't think we missed out here.

I think if Meglos had been in this it would have had to have been very different because he just wouldn't have fit in with the story as it is. I'm glad they didn't use him though. Meglos isn't a very strong story and there is no real justification for his return.
