It is one of my favourite from the whole series. For its time and considering what came either side of it, it is just brilliant. The sets, design, costumes, story, everything about it is just brilliant. It is made all the better by the fact that it is a pure historical. No aliens, no sci fi, no tech. Goes to show you don't need a 'monster of the week' every time to make it worth watching, just great scripts and some excellent performances from the cast. Especially Jacqueline Hill who, for me at least, gives her best ever performance in the show here.

One thing that sets this serial out amongst the ones that come along with it is the amazing set designs and costumes. They really got it spot on with this one

The expression on his face when he realizes he's gotten engaged- despite being older than any human and old in appearance you can tell that he's still a youthful adventurer.
I was definitely impressed with the costumes and sets here, and power play grappling with the characters. This is probably my favorite Hartnell story.
