It's been confirmed that the live show will be a sequel to Carnivale of Monsters as a lot of fans speculated after hearing that Nigel Planer will be playing Vorgenson (Son of Vorg?).

Full details here (http://www.sfx.co.uk/2010/09/01/doctor-who-live-is-a-sequel-to-%E2%80%9Ccarnival-of-monsters%E2%80%9D/)

I've not seen Carnival Of Monsters, but I cannot wait for the live tour. It cant come around soon enough for my liking. Are many people from around here going?

I won't be going either, it's just too much to shell out just now.

Just read on the main site about the Carnival of Monsters link - very cheesy story due to the effects back then, but the stories immediately following it are belters as I recall.

I would be very interested to see what the live show turns out like. But i don't think I'll be shelling out the vast sums they want. Besides, I'm 37 yr old and weigh the same as a small family hatchback - I might be a bit incongruous!

hehe, yeah one of the first selling points of the Live show was this flying dalek.  Not sure if it's really going to be suspended, or if it will be an illusion, the twin illusionists they have on board are quite impressive :D

Matt seems to be doing dozens of interviews for the up coming tour, with all the night filming I'm wondering if he's getting any sleep at all atm XD

This one doesn't mention any spoilers so I'll put it here instead:

Quote
Doctor Who star Matt Smith is hoping to get a new gadget in the Tardis - a piano keyboard.

The actor wants a real instrument panel to show off his musical skills in a future episode.

Matt - soon to feature in a touring version of the show - has already used the programme to showcase his expertise as a footballer.  The former Leicester City and Nottingham Forest youth star was seen running rings around the other players when the Doctor had a kickabout in the past series.

And his latest request is to display how dextrous he is.  "I always wanted a piano in the Tardis, but that's yet to materialise, sadly," he said. "I'm by no means a dab hand but I can tinker a little bit."

However, he admits that fans may not be so keen to see him performing: "I guess once the Tardis lands, you want the adventure to get started - you don't want to see the Doctor playing the piano.

Source (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5h2Lmk4_fXJeiiuTWX6evUVeSOBkA?docId=N0004511285664771391A)

The Doctor playing a piano....can't really see that working in the TARDIS but I can't see why not whilst he's on world, or at next years Proms.

The performance of Doctor Who Live scheduled for the Glasgow SECC on 14th October has been cancelled for what is described as logistical reasons.

Title: Re: Doctor Who Live Tour

There is a review on the BBC Doctor Who page. I have just pasted it from there :)

In the week that the Commonwealth Games started, Doctor Who fans can also strike gold, as a spectacular stage show starts which brings to life Murray Gold's amazing score.

Doctor Who website had an exclusive first preview of 'Doctor Who Live' in rehearsal in London. And we need to warn you - it is really scary!

In a story developed by Steven Moffat, and co-written by Gareth Roberts and Will Brenton, we encounter Vorgenson - played by Nigel Planer. An amazing intergalactic showman who tells the Doctor, "I'm your biggest fan". We liked the clever plot - Vorgenson has collected the most dangerous monsters in the universe and imprisoned them in his Minimiser - a device very much out of classic Doctor Who story.

'Nihil Possum Fortassis Vado Pecco' is Vorgenson's Motto .... Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong. Yet the Doctor warns that if something looks too good to be true then it probably is...

Matt Smith has filmed special scenes as the Doctor (he does not appear live - we wish he did but he does have to film a new series), and if you do go - he needs your help. Oh and he has a piece of advice - whatever you do, don't blink.

There are a host of monsters appearing including Cybermen, Weeping Angels, Judoon, Silurian, Smilers, Winders, Scarecrows, Vampires, Clockwork Robots and Ood. You might want to hold Mum or Dads hand in case they get scared. There are lots of loud bangs and flashes.

There are plenty of surprises - and a few familiar faces in unusual places - was that Nick (voice of the Daleks) Briggs leading a crack squad of police commandos? The 'rock' style band is conducted, with flair, by Ben Foster. There is also a big screen showing spectacular montage sequences from the television programme timed to your favourite Doctor Who themes.

We won't give away the ending but it wouldn't be Doctor Who without a battle with the deadliest enemy of them all, the Daleks.

The tour will travel the length and breadth of the UK - starting tonight at Wembley Arena and on to Sheffield, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Liverpool, Belfast ending Sunday 7th November.

There are a couple of pictures if you follow THIS LINK (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_101008_02/Monsters_Score_Gold_Review)

You're welcome.

When I was watching this earlier my mum (yes she who can't keep quiet - didn't even manage the brief amount of time this interview lasted!) said 'will they release it on DVD at some point?' - hadn't occurred to me before but I think they should - it's all money for them & gives those of us who aren't going a chance to see it. This is now what I'm (perhaps falsely) hoping for  :)

Title: Re: Doctor Who Live Tour
Post by: The Doc on October 08, 2010, 11:09:54 pm
I was asking about this the other day and all I got was a 'maybe'. It apparantly is going to be dependent on the sales of the S5 box set. If it sells well, this will get a single release, though if the box set under performs, it will be used as an extra to boost sales for S6. Apparantly anyways. I dont know what constitutes successful in terms of box set sales though

Just pasting this from the main site :)

Last night, The Doctor Who Live Tour started its run at Wembley Arena to a packed out audience which included Matt Smith along with his girlfriend Daisy Lowe and his family, and even Catherine Tate, who played the Doctors companion Donna Noble was in attendence.

As you may expect, there was also a lot of press at the show and in this mornings reports, they all give unanimous praise to the show, its story, its monsters and its special effects.

The Doctor, in his filmed inserts, was given rave reviews and rapturous applause from fans and the monsters were all well received, with the Weeping Angels getting the loudest screams when they appeared and did away with a group of policemen.

A twist at the end of the show has also been revealed, which for once I wont spoil on here, but any of you planning to attend are going to be in for a treat and I can't wait until it is my turn to take my seat in the audience later in the month. After the next two London shows, the tour will move on to Sheffield.

Just got back! It was BRILLIANT! I had such a good time! Squealing like a child! xD

Though I was a little disapointed. I thought there would be a little more of a story. The aliens basically just walked through the audiences, onto the stage and then were gone. I'm not complaining though - it was amazing :)

The final battle was fab and it was nice to see Liz 10 making an appearence! I'll upload the pictures I have when I have more time!

At least she wasnt moaning or saying she was bored. Whenever I had to do stuff with my sister she always acted up. I used to leave her in parks and stuff when we were young :P

It was funny then, but in hindsight not the best idea

LOL! Oh Jeeze, thats terrible xD Though I do wish sometimes I could eave her in a park and walk away :P She's actually the person who got me into Doctor Who! Her and my dad were obsessed with it when it came back, and I wasn't to keen. She made me watch it with her one day 'cos it scared her and since then, I've been quite literally obsessed :P

Interval time. I'm way too dedicated :P

Had Silurians, Angels and Judoon so far and we got assimilated which has made my entire life. They are so scary up close but they look awesome. The scenes with the Doctor are really funny. Got a few pics but there's no light on my iPhone so the camera isn't great. Also got sucked into paying ten quid for a programme but it's awesome and shiny

Last night was simply amazing. I just spent half hour writing all about how amazing it was but then my computer crashed, so this is more of an abridged version.

Seeing all those Doctor Who villains up close was superb and we had absolutely amazing seats. I have to admit when I heard that lesser knowns like the Scarecrows and Clockwork Droids were going to be there I wasnt that excited, but seeing them up close was brilliant and worked so well. The Scarecrows particularly were very creepy but were also very funny as they chased audince members around during the interval to get people back to their seats. One kid in particular screamed his lungs out when they chased him.

The orchestra were brilliant and the atmosphere when they were all playing was electric. Listening to the music as the clips played over the screen was brilliant and they accompanied the monsters brilliantly. The scenes with Matt were really funny and written so well. It was just a shame he wasnt on stage as part of the show.

The villains themselves were brilliant. Being that close to them after seeing them all on screen for so many years gave a feeling that was indescibable. I was like a 7 year old filled with excitement. When the Judoon came up to us and assimilated us with there alien tech thing was one of the best moments ever!!!! They are genuinly terrifying up close and being just a few feet away from them was an amazing experience.

I didnt realise before how much of a fan of the Cybermen I was, but I spent the entire night waiting for them to come out and when they finally did I let out the biggest squee ever. They came marching past us, about 3 feet away and looked superb. The kids in the audience were terrified and I just had this feeling that is so hard to put down in words, but like 50 years worth of history was stood in front of me and it was amazing. such a great exciting and nostalgic feeling seeing them right in front of us. It wasnt like we were watching actors in suits, you just fell right into the story and believed there were really Ood and Cybers and whatnot stood in front of you. It was brilliant.

The Daleks, I have to say, looked fantastic. Completely different to how they appear on screen. They were so big and imposing and they really did take your breath away. I still think they dont translate too brilliantly on screen, but up close and in person in all their different colours they looked so impressive and scary. I totally get what Moffat was thinking now. Its just a shame they dont look so great on the TV.

The cut scenes shown on the big screen were really great. When they went through the regenerations towards the end, the crowd lapped it up and cheered like mad men, but when it got to 9,10 and 11 they raised the roof. Matt had the biggest cheer of all, but Ten was a very close second and you could tell he was still fresh in the minds of so many of them. The tribute to Amy Pond was also brilliant. They chose all the very best scenes and it was so poignant and well put together. The crowd went wild for it.

I cant begin to tell you how exciting the evening was and I was so glad I went. It was brilliant from start to finish and I would go again in a heartbeat. The first review I wrote was far better than this and a while lot more detailed, but my laptop crashing zapped the energy out fo me to write it all out again, but this covers most of it I think. I also have a few pictures for you all too. They arent that great though. I took about 60, but I only had my iPhone with me and they dont have zoom or flash so I had to make do and most came out blurry. It looks like im quite far away in the pictures, but we were really close to the stage and all the monsters cam right past and interacted with us. Though only the Judoon targeted us personally. Ill never forget that :P
