Just because I am surprised this thread hasnt been created already.

Now its over, what are your overall thoughts?

I was concerned when I realised it was an update but I really enjoyed it esp 'A Study in Pink' - there's some brilliant quotes in that ep.

I'm looking forward to the next run.

Must get the DVDs.

I'm surprised it was only renewed for three eps. I thought they may have pushed for 6.

to be honest, I really liked the first one, but the follow ups just didnt seem to live up to the first and the second one was awful

Yes if I had to place them in order it would 1st ep, 3rd ep & 2nd ep - let's hope they don't use the guy who wrote that second ep again - was by far the weakest of the trilogy.

Make them all like 'A Study in Pink' and I'll be happy!!! ;)

Think I would agree. Thought the first and third were superb (I mean, what a finale) and the second was a little pedestrian. I promise not to mention Cumerbutch as a potential Doctor....But wouldn't he be fabulous!!!!!

NO!!

Im sorry but everything about him makes my skin crawl. I watched a few interviews with him and he comes across as a right pompous arse. The things he comes out with, and his whole attitude and demeanour are so offputting. I wont question his acting skills, but the man himself comes off as not very likeable, and I think having him as the Doctor would make it so hard to watch. For me, anyways.

Easy tiger! You'll have the Cumerbunch's after you - they are a vicious lot! My friend criticised Wanda Ventham and they tore him to shreds!

No >:( No he wouldn't!!! >:( He suits SHERLOCK because the character isn't about being liked. Thankfully it'll never happen because he's terrifed of school lunchboxes ;D

I really enjoyed the series. Didn't think I would because of it being brought up to date - also a huge fan of Jeremy Bretts - but it was brillantly handled. Cumberbatch is perfect in the role and I'm pleased to see Mr M plans to keep him busy in it for another series. Hopefully that will give him plenty to talk about when he's interviewed next :P

Not only that, but his comments in regards to it were pretty demeaning towards the show.

Sorry, I want someone who was/is a fanboy of the show, has a passion for it, and would know how to play the role of the Doctor. I think that's my biggest criticism of MS: he never even watched the show prior to auditioning.

Can we go back to talking Sherlock? :'(

You could create a new thread "Benedict Cumberbatch will never be The Doctor" it would get replies :P

1st Ep = The best!
3rd Ep = What we can probably expect
2nd Ep = Interesting, but not up to scratch (Though I know someone who thought it was best :o )

Didnt Ep 2 have a different Director too? *looks it up* Ohh Euros Lyn, thought Paul McGuigan was better tbh... :)

I agree that episode 1 was the most enjoyable.  I came to the show looking forward to a modern version of Holmes. I hadn't read the original stories before, though I saw a few TV episodes of the Jeremy Brett series.  Like the BBC's showing of Hamlet, Sherlock cast great character actors in the title roles.  I knew the most about Martin Freeman out of the Sherlock actors, from the original version of The Office and the recent movie adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  As for Benedict Cumberbatch, I hadn't heard of him before Sherlock was aired, but he fits the role of Sherlock, similar to House in solving mysteries because they challenge his mind.

Oh GOD! I loved Sherlock so much! I thought episode one was the best out of the three. Benedict makes a brilliant (and sexy...) Holmes.

They finally showed Sherlock "A Study in Pink" this past Sunday on PBS.  I absolutely adored it!  I thought it was funny, well paced and written, and the chemistry between Holmes and Watson, they way they played off each other, was fantastic.  I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of it, although after reading this thread I am prepared to have episode 2 be not as good as the first :-)

Favorite part is difficult - I really loved the whole thing.  I did really like how he kept using other people's phones.  Thought that was amusing.  And I loved when he clarified that he was a high-functioning sociopath as opposed to a psychopath :)  I really liked how Watson got drawn into everything.  Like when Sherlock said something like 'want to see another body' and Watson responds 'God yes' (or something like that).  Loved it!

Yes!  That's the line.  I thought that was hilarious and it was delivered perfectly.  I thought that the editing was fine - didn't really notice it.  But then again I usually only notice bad editing so if I didn't really notice it that means it was good, right?  I will pay closer attention to the editing this week :)  Can't wait!

Its just soooo cool and has so many different elements and transitions!!! ;D

I go all editing fangirly over the RTD film as well for some bits (the fights for example) ;)

Oh and non linear, cant beat nonlinear elements! 4.3.2.1 has brilliant editing! :D

The BBC's modern-day take on Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, has been nominated for five Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards. The three-part series, adapted by Mark Gattis and Steven Moffat, aired on BBC One over the Summer to rave reviews and high ratings. The BBC has commissioned a second series featuring the famous Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle creation.

Sherlock has been nominated for five Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards in categories such as Best Photography in a Drama and Best Original Score.

I can't find out what the other nominations are, but this is great news.  The whole show was just beautifully put together and fully deserves to win all five imo :D

Good luck to everyone involved - show was very well made and deserves to do well.

Was pleased to see it win 2 Crime Daggers at the ITV Crime Thriller Awards about a month ago (not sure if it got mentioned in here but even if it did it's worth repeating!) - Best TV Series & Best Actor for Mr Cumberbatch.

Roll on Series 2  :)

Well, not much news, but at least we know we still have Steve Thompson writing....  :-X

""Steven wanted to do the twisted love story [of 'A Scandal'] because he likes that," he said. "I'm doing the gothic horror, and Steve Thompson is doing 'The Final Problem'." (Mark Gatiss)

"twisted love story"

"love story"

Ok, I've just expressly said I am not worried about this on twitter...I trust the Moff won't do something stupid.... but still  :-\

Title: Re: Sherlock
Post by: 2cajuman2 on April 13, 2011, 12:19:40 am
what? bomb explodes and they die? :P

well, ill list the 3 obvious/easy ones:

Sherlock shoots the bomb but it doesn't explode to the huge extent because Moriarty knew he would be in close proximity

Sherlock shoots the bomb and it explodes powerfully but they end up in the pool because John has run/jumped and pushed them in

Mycroft actually controls the men with red dot guns and opens the door to catch (not him literally) Jim but he gets away

These are 3 :)

As you may or may not know Sherlock is nominated for the The YouTube Audience Award at the BAFTAs. This is the only award that can be voted for by the public. Should you wish to show your support (ie vote) you can do so here http://www.youtube.com/baftaonline

Uk voters only though I'm afraid.

The episode titles for S2 have been revealed by the Moff in a BBC press release (though this far in advance I guess they are subject to change) & they certainly reveal which SH stories will be influencing them! Mark Gatiss has also stated who will be writing each one.

So ...

A Scandal in Belgravia (Moffat)
The Hounds of Baskerville (Gatiss)
The Reichenbach Fall (Stephen Thompson)

Read the full release HERE (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2011/05_may/16/sherlock.shtml)

I haven't spoiler tagged them because they are only spoilery if you know the SH stories & even then we don't have a clue how the stories will be used!

Russell Tovey has just confirmed he's going to appear in the news series. He didn't say which story, but I think I saw something earlier about it being the 'Baskerville' one  :D

EDIT - he's also just tweeted this:

Hound of the Baskervilles... And I am playing Henry... Good times x

Very interesting piece of casting! In the 1958 film where Peter Cushing played Sherlock, Christopher Lee played Henry Baskerville - so I think we are in for a real treat. I am very excited at seeing Cumberbutch, Tovey and Freeman put a contemporary spin on this.

Hound of the Baskervilles was my "first" Sherlock story and this is great news :)

I am happy, oh so happy, so happy and - sorry, I'll stop singing :P

I mean, I had guessed and I saw his tweets but... just so thrilled with everything Sherlock!! Far more than with Torchwood... I can't wait for Sherlock!

Dang seeing them filming a couple of scenes! I want to watch it now!!! ;D

Yeah I don't mind MR generally, but it just didn't seem like a good fit for the role or show to me. Would have reserved final judgement til I'd seen it though. This choice seems better  :)

Yes, I always reserve judgement til I have seen it...But I really really didn't want MR... For a start I thought she was too young!

Although this is a general 'some of what's coming up on BBC One' video I thought I'd pop the link in here because it features a clip from S2 of Sherlock:

You can also read the blog post by Danny Cohen if you so desire.

Well worth the wait.
Brilliant, even though I still think Mark Gattis can't act.

Now, can Mr Moffat please inject this much talent, heart, enthusiasm etc into the good Doctor?

Did Gatiss appear in the episode as well? Why does he always need to do that?

I loved it =)
Only saw 3/4 of it and didn't really get the plot, though, because of all the livestreams breaking down.
Sometimes not living in the UK is just unfair.

Did Gatiss appear in the episode as well?

He plays Sherlock's brother - has done since S1 ep 1. I actually really like his performance as Mycroft, but each to their own.

I thought last night's ep was fantastic. Loved all the little nods to the original stories  :D

As much as I loved it, I truly feel that Gattis pulls me out of the story every time he's on screen.
His "acting" was fine for a random & odd show like League of Gentlemen, but for a serious drama, no thanks.
As PRG says, to each their own, he just really isn't my cup of tea in the slightest.

Still, they're tackling Hound of the Baskervilles next week, and he isn't (or at least shouldn't be) in that!

What did everyone think of Hounds of Baskerville then?
I thought it was the weakest episode they've done yet, but I may have been over excited as I love the original story.

However, I think it's very telling of the state of UK drama, that when Sherlock is less than it's best, it is STILL the best thing on TV!

Andrew Scott just won the Best Supporting Actor award at the BAFTAs for his performance as Moriarty.

So happy for him  :)
