The home planet of the Time Lords is under siege, by an unknown force that by all accounts should not even exist. The only person who can help them is the Doctor, but even he will need assistance — from his previous selves......

The first multi Doctor story, and a very good one at that, The Three Doctors was commisioned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Doctor Who.

I'm planning on watching this tonight as it goes. It's a great little story and a very special one for various reasons. The First Doctor has some great one liners (like the one above) and watching Two and Three trying to work together is fun. The tension seemed a lot more than just what was in the script

A fine story, and the first bit of genuine Time Lord history we ever had.  And that line of the 1st Doctor always cracks me up.

The replacements line? Yeah, it's a cracker, and very him!

The DVD release of this is an absolute gem! When you have watched the main feature I urge you to watch it with commentary and production notes. You get a fabulous insight into the difficulties of putting on such a production. Barry Letts is his usual wonderful self and beautifully accompanied by Terry Dicks and the divine Katy Manning.

This story is an absolute classic - even though the science doesn't make an awful lot of sense! Patrick Troughton just falls effortlessly back into the role, Jon Pertwee exudes a real 'star' quality and we get a final glimpse of the magical William Hartnell. The co-stars are a treat and in Omega, we get a genuinely tragic figure, beautifully realised by Stephen Thorne. Written by Bob Baker and Dave Martin (this just about makes up for them creating K9) as the centrepiece of Season 10, the whole shooting match just feels 'special'. When you consider that this was sandwiched in between The Time Warrior and The Carnival of Monsters, you will see just what a golden age this was.

I shamelessly love multi doctor stories and this ticked all the boxes :) I first saw it as part of a BBC2 season in the early 80s and just as I was coming to terms with what Doctor Who was all about. This is very special and I love it (almost as much as the Five Doctors) :)

The story before it was The Time Monster - not quite such a classic as The Time Warrior, but generally it was in the middle of a great era.  It's so easy to confuse those two - like Seeds of Death and Seeds of Doom, and The War Machines  and The War Games.

Ah, you are quite right - apologies! The Time Monster is good but it's no Time Warrior (which now I think about it had SJS in it D'oh!)

I like the UNIT sections of The Time Monster, but I didn't think the Atlantis parts lived up to it. 

There are loads of pairs of stories I get mixed up - besides the ones I mentioned, I always have to think twice to remember which is which between Image of the Fendahl and Curse of Fenric.

....Fenric.....now there's a seperate thread if ever I saw one!!  ;D

I've seen the 5 Doctors and although it was really the 4 Doctors with 3 original actors, I enjoyed it. Should I give this a shot?

YES!!! Even if you take away the good story, the banter between Two and Three is worth it alone

I only recently watched this again after what seemed like years. Absolutely brilliant story!

Absolutely one of my favourites of the classic series. Seeing Troughton and Pertwee working together was a
real treat. And Hartnell just had me in stitches.

A classic classic 8)

One of my favourite stories of any era of the show. Every moment the second and third Doctors were on screen together is a classic. A shame that William Hartnell wasn't well enough to play a fuller part but great to see him anyway, and he still manages to get in some classic lines.

And they always get forgotten because of all the multi-Doctor gloriousness, but the supporting cast too were excellent in this one. Jo, the Brigadier ("I'm pretty sure that's Cromer") and Benton all on great form, and a brilliant performance from Stephen Thorne as Omega - matching Jon Pertwee and Patrick Troughton ham-for-ham while wearing a full face-mask is no mean feat!


(and the fact that I just had to go back over that and remove several uses of the word "great" because I seemed to be using it almost every other word should sum up how I fell about this one - it's great!)

A fantastic story that I just love to bits. It may be a little cheesier than the average but I must be alone in saying I love the electronic music that plays when Pertwee drives Bessie. Watching the Doctors' banter and the Brigadier's shock is just awesome. And now having read The Infinity Doctors and listened to the audio "Omega", Omega is all the more an awesome villain to me.

This really is a brilliant story. Troughton and Pertwee really bounce off each other so well and I think with that pairing, even if the story had been weak, it would still have been worth watching. It's just a shame that Hartnell could only play such a small role in it. This would be one of those stories I would reccomend to someone looking to try out the classics for the first time.

Always been a favourite of mine, this, and every time I watch it I am still always a little disappointed that we couldn't have had a bit more from Hartnell. Such a shame he was so unwell, but even still it was really cool to get that one last appearance. And even though his appearance was only brief, he managed to deliver us the superb 'dandy and a clown' line, which really has lived on on it's own.
