Travels In Time And Space / Mission To The Unknown / Re: Next Companion

I'm also am intrigued as to what they will do with JLC (although I wish I could stop thinking 'Justin Lee Collins' every time I see her initials).
I'm hoping for an alien companion. We haven't had one for a while - far too many human companions. I think it would be good if JLC had to sit in the makeup chair to get prosthetics attached before work every day, but I don't think it should be too prosthetic-heavy, or she will want to quit too soon. Something so she still looks humanoid, but definitely alien. Maybe one of the following would work: Catkind (like The Sisters of Plenitude or Thomas Kincade Brannigan) - haven't seen them for a while, and they could be fast and agile... Silurian - I think a feisty female Silurian, like Vastra, would make a good companion. Draconian - About time they came back... They've been mentioned in conversation in The Satan Pit and SJA: Secrets of the Stars, but the are generally opposing the Doctor, so a Draconian companion would be interesting. Thal - (unlikely as JLC has dark hair) The Dalek's 2nd greatest enemy would make an interesting alliance if the Daleks return next season...
Unfortunately, one of the things about the Doctor's companions is that they don't freak out the locals when they land on Earth. Nyssa was from the planet Traken, and Adric was Alzarian, from a different universe, but both looked Human. Thal is human enough, but the others possibly wouldn't be able to walk about helping the Doctor...

The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Gift
Wow, I watching that yesterday too. My son has made me store every episode on the Sky+ box, so that he can watch them whenever he likes... He watched 'The Gift' yesterday and I was in the room, eyes unresistingly drawn to the screen... Currently watching: BBV's UNIT: Downtime

The Doctor already dealt with the Trickster and the Claw Shansheeth. The Trickster could re-appear in Doctor Who, but he was already in a couple of SJA stories, and almost won both times. He might make an interesting opponent. The Claw Shansheeth was just one rogue group of the Shansheeth, from the 15th Funeral Fleet. This suggests that the Shansheeth are widely spread throughout the universe, and therefore it would make sense that the Doctor, who is often around death, might encounter them again. Personally, I'd like to see more of the following characters from SJA: - Androvax (the Veil)
- The Metalkind (and Fleshkind)
- Gavin, King of an unnamed planet
- Xylok's or the Xylok homeworld
- Maybe Clyde, Luke, Rani and Sky making a cameo appearance
- The Mona Lisa, although Suranne played Idris in Dr Who, so may not be possible
I'd also like to see more of the following characters from Doctor Who: - Zocci and Vinvocci (Bannakaffalatta is one of my favourite characters from NuWho)
- Judoon
- Trees of Cheem
and from Classic Who: - The Rani
- Sea Devils
- Ice Warriors
- Zygons

Travels In Time And Space / The 1970's / Re: Poll: The Best Of Season 11

Hmm, I think I really should re-watch the whole of Season 11 before attempting to answer this, as none of it is fresh in my memory.
From my fuzzy recollection of the series though, I'd say Planet of the Spiders. The departure of Pertwee is an iconic moment...

I find it suspicious that it has about 24 different characters some of which resemble pig pen and math. Math makes sense, but pig pen?
Never heard of Pig Pen...? But there are certainly Greek characters in there, which are commonly used in mathematical problems. It also seems someone has (this week) taken the idea we had here to work on the language, and run with it. I found that a new 'Gallifreyan Dictionary Wiki' has appeared, seemingly a few days ago. I decided to give it a boost and have added a few pages, based on what I posted at the top of this thread, but I think this might be a great place for people who want to work on the language to hang out, using the wiki's forum to throw ideas around... Anyways, link is here. This is not my wiki, but I'll certainly be watching it, and contributing where I can...

Interestingly, I received my copy of the brand new Doctor Who novel, Shada, this morning from Amazon. This is the Douglas Adams story, rewritten by Gareth Roberts. Just before Chapter 1, is the following page: Fig. 1. These words are carved into the machonite plinth upon which rests The Worshipful and Ancient Law of Gallifrey , one of the Great Artifacts of the Rassilon Era. They are here reproduced by kind permission of the Curator of the Panopticon Archives, the Capitol, Gallifrey. Translated from the Old High Gallifreyan they read, roughly: 'If this book should care to roam, box its ears and send it home.' I realise that this is Old High Gallifreyan, and not the modern circular Gallifreyan, but in theory, the modern language is based on the old one. I've tried to figure out this passage, but even knowing what it says, I am unable to even begin to figure out the translation process, so posting it here in case anyone has any insights... I thought it looked vaguely like the Gnomish language used by Eoin Colfer in his Artemis Fowl books, but that translated directly to english, just substituting pictograms for letters. This seems more complicated, but I find it hard to believe that this is just random symbols...
