Rose Returns

I don't know about everyone else, but Rose coming back in Partners of Crime was a total shocker for me. When that blond girl turned around and we got to see who it was I remember being so gobsmacked! I really didn't expect to see her again. Unlike a lot of people, I wasn't against her return at all and while it did take away from her exit a little, I was happy to have the character back. Even if she did later forget how to talk.

Not a bad story, not a great one. Not sure I'd have included it.

I actually like both Peladon stories. The later one isn't brilliant but it's not awful either.

Liz is great. Definitely a strong companion and one of my favourite of the era.

I like Ambassadors a lot. I've not had it for long but I've watched it a couple times now. It's a strong story. I'd have put it on my list.

Mels departure always seemed so random to me. It was too out of character and made no sense in the story of that guy. Why would she leave with him?

Not a choice I would have made at the moment but I'm sure she will be great.

Z is for...

Zarbi

The Zarbi were an insectoid species native to Vortis. The Zarbi resembled giant ants, though with four small arms and two powerful legs. They communicated by screeching and rubbing their legs together. Much like bees, Zarbi also communicated by dancing.

The costume of the knave is brilliant. I didn't realise just how good they all looked.

17  Travels In Time And Space / The Celestial Toymaker / Re: Mistakes and Inconsistencies The Celestial Toymaker on: January 18, 2013, 10:32:19 am
I remember reading a long time ago that there were lots of errors within the Trilogic game, but I have no idea how that game works and so wouldn't have noticed them myself and still don't know what they are.

I can understand how the game works, but I think you'd need to be a maths prodigy to be able to tell if it's being played right.  I'm not.

From wiki:

When the Doctor is on move 905, he moves a piece so it counts as move 906. However, when the Celestial Toymaker asks the pieces to go to move 930, they only jump 21 times so it should be move 927.

In one spot of the Trilogic game, the smallest piece can be seen to be on top of the 5 piece. In order to get the minimum 1023 moves for the game, the smallest piece can never be put on top of another odd numbered piece – so the Doctor shouldn't be able to do it in 1023 moves.

Also, at 1000 moves, there are pieces on all three edges of the board. In the optimum solution of 1023 moves, one of the edges should be blank at 1000 moves.

I'd never have known, either.

I still don't understand Grin
18  Travels In Time And Space / The Celestial Toymaker / Re: Replacing William Hartnell on: January 18, 2013, 10:31:25 am
I don't know if it would have been a bad idea entirely. Hartnell was great, but there was nothing spectacular about his performance between this and The Tenth Planet that we would have missed out on had he left the show at this point.

I sort of agree with this. I'm glad that he stayed around a bit longer, but I don't think we would have lost anything major in terms of development had this been his last story.

I also think he is a Timelord.
20  Travels In Time And Space / The Celestial Toymaker / Re: The Toymaker on: January 18, 2013, 10:28:37 am
I think there is a lot of mileage in this character and I would love to see him come back for a rematch. Michael Gough played him so well in this story and he had a great interaction with Hartnell (when he was around). They really played well of each other.
