1  Fanatical For Who / The Top Ten Of Everything / Re: The Cyber Mistress's Top Ten Cybermen Stories on: January 31, 2013, 04:20:21 pm
Ninth Place

The Wheel In Space

The Wheel in Space has never really had it easy. It's a great story, but it's lost amongst a season of great stories. It's a missing story, but it's lost amongst some brilliant missing stories where the hope for return is higher. But this story shouldn't be overlooked. Mostly because it's pretty awesome. The Cybermen come back for their third appearance to a strong story that also gives us new companion Zoe. The atmosphere is dark and they really went out to make the Cybermen seem as scary as possible. In fact, this is perhaps one of their most menacing outings. The claustrophobic feel of the Wheel, with Cybermen lurking down every corridor must have scared kids of the time witless. And the death rate is sky high. Nobody is safe in this one.

This story really is great, but the reason it doesn't make a higher placing on my list is simply down to one thing. The Cybermen. Ironic, really. They were scary in this. No doubt about it. But the writers seemed to go to great lengths to make them seem a bit daft. Their dastardly intentions became too overcomplicated and more and more absurd as the story progressed. A straight forward invasion would have worked fine, but instead they overdid it.

Bit of a mixed bag there. Perhaps my next offering will be more of a pleaser Smiley
3  Fanatical For Who / The Top Ten Of Everything / Re: Exterminate's Top Ten Dalek Stories on: January 31, 2013, 04:02:51 pm
I'm not with the mojority here. I think this was one of the weaker Dalek stories. Everything that happens in it was done before and done better.
4  Fanatical For Who / The Top Ten Of Everything / Re: Top 50 NuWho Stories on: January 31, 2013, 04:02:00 pm
There are some excellent aspects to this story, but there is also some stuff in there that I am not so keen on. Mostly it has to do with the devil. That bit didn't work for me.
5  Fanatical For Who / The Top Ten Of Everything / Re: Hannah's Top 10 New Adventure Novels on: January 31, 2013, 04:00:24 pm
It's an ok story but it's not one of my favourites. It starts well and ends well but it sags in the middle and drags out a bit

I agree with this comment. It's good, but there are lots better. Probably why Hannah hasn't got it higher Grin
6  Fanatical For Who / The Top Ten Of Everything / Re: The Top 50 At 50 on: January 31, 2013, 03:59:29 pm
Not one of my favourites, but as others have said, the Rani is great.

8  Fanatical For Who / The Arc Of Infinity / Re: Are We Getting Enough Doctor Who In 2013 on: January 31, 2013, 03:57:25 pm
Actually, the more I think on it the more sure I am. In fact, it makes sense that we know hardly anything. We are big fans. That's why we hang around forums talking about the show. 99% of the audience doesn't do that. Moff needs to promote the 50th and to us it seems like nothing is happening, but to average Joe Public they probably aren't that bothered about whats happening in ten months. It makes more sense for the BBC to stay a bit quiet for now and to get the audience through the rest of the season first. At the end of the day these are still new, important episodes. Focusing everything on the 50th would put these 8 upcoming episodes into the shade and why would Moff want to do that? I bet once they are done the real promo for the 50th will get underway.

I've gone with option three. I'm certain that there's more that we aren't aware of yet.
10  Travels In Time And Space / The Hub / Re: Should We Go Back To 13 Stand Alone Episodes? on: January 31, 2013, 03:53:02 pm
COE was brilliant and for that story the shorter story format worked, but it didn't for Miracle Day. I'll always prefer the story of the week aproach personally

12  Travels In Time And Space / An Adventure In Space and Time / Re: An Adventure In Space And Time on: January 31, 2013, 03:50:01 pm
I can't wait for this. I wanted to know the type of show it would be so I watched the one they made about Coronation Street and it was amazing. I don't even watch Coronation Street but I thought it was brilliant. I know this has a different team and is telling a different story but if it is half as good as that it will be awesome.

The thing that worries me though is that Gatiss has stated that he 'wants people to realise this is a drama, not a docu-drama', which makes me wonder how much of it he is going to make up as he goes along.

You're Donna Noble!

Oi! Wotch it, Martian boy! The Doctor thinks he can spout all kinds of ridiculous technobabble and 'Last Time Lord Angst' at you just because he's from outer space, huh? Well, you're not having any of it! You've got a heart of gold and a will of iron, and you're a rather boggling combination of a romantic idealist and a staunch realist. But you never let logical paradoxes get to you; you prefer to shoehorn the universe into a little box of your own perception. More often than not, it fits... probably because the universe is too intimidated to argue!
14  Travels In Time And Space / The Greatest Show In The Galaxy / Re: Best Of The Best Episodes on: January 31, 2013, 03:39:27 pm
I went with Genesis of the Daleks. Considering how weak some of the Dalek stories are, there sure are a lot on that list. I'd also say that many of them are not the strongest story for each Doctor
15  Travels In Time And Space / The Greatest Show In The Galaxy / Re: Assuming they'd say yes.. Other new writers for DW on: January 31, 2013, 03:33:39 pm
Jane Espenson. The work she has done in the US, on pretty much every cult show going, makes her more than capable of the job. She even wrote for TW I think.
16  Travels In Time And Space / The Greatest Show In The Galaxy / Re: Canon on: January 31, 2013, 03:19:50 pm
I am all about canon. I love having references and a 'guide' as it were. I'm not saying stories should be stopped dead in their tracks if they need to change something small from the past in order to tell a good tale, but I'd much rather the writers adhere to whats been instead of just steamrolling through it.

Isn't there rules now about smoking on screen? Can it not be done before the watershed or something?
