Travels In Time And Space / The Invasion Of Time / Re: The Destination of the Doctor

I like the idea of their landings being random. I think it makes it far more interesting, and as said in the OP, takes the option for big huge storyarcs (which I'm not a fan of) off the table. There is that thing in the early days where they had to find a reason for the Doctor to stay where he was rather than just leaving, but I think with the First Doctor especially, that was his nature. He wanted away from the troubles and I think Barbara and Ian are the main reason he started taking more of a caring interest. They forced him to because it was in their human nature to do so themselves. These days the Doctor can't leave anything alone and so they wouldn't have that problem. As soon as he finds out there is something to stick his nose into he is off and at it. Also, as Nyki points out, they need to have more planets and non Earth locations. Having random materialisations might cut that out a bit. Or at least give us more historicals.

It wouldn't even have to be a full story. They could just have enough episodes to make up a full story, like ep 4 of The Tenth Planet. Though I don't think they could hold on to that sort of news for long and it probably too much to hope for.
That's the one that I heard they had. Probably nothing more than a fan started rumour, but it would be awesome if they did.

I think at times there is a sense of entitlement amongst fans that shouldn't be there. I'm not saying that is the point of the OP, and I am as keen for more Who as the next person, but we are lucky we get anything at all. We might be an intense fandom, but we aren't owed anything. It could be that this is the exact reaction that the Beeb are looking for. Right now we're all chomping at the bit to get more of it on TV, but if they were handing it to us on a plate then we'd take it for granted. While they deprive us, it builds up the want for it. I think that's important. They are giving us enough to keep us wanting more. I'd rather they do that and see the figures remain steady and anticipation just as high than see it on all the time and the figures slowly decline.

Travels In Time And Space / The Crusade / Re: Is Matt Smith leaving after next season?

I think half the problem (in terms of you saying about getting bored) is that Amy and Rory were around for too long. The thing that keeps this show fresh is that it is constantly changing. I love having companions that don't leave after 5 minutes, but I don't want them to be around for too long either. I think a season and a half to two seasons is the maximun it should be unless we get new additions along the way, like in the early years were companions would overlap each other.
