1  Travels In Time And Space / The Crusade / Re: Moffat Leaving? on: January 20, 2012, 01:23:32 pm
When RTD was leaving I was gutted. Really didn't want him to go. With Moff I feel like I don't really mind. My big issue when he does go is who will be his successor. If it does end up being Mark Gatiss I honestly think it will be the end of the show.

I couldn't agree with you more.
IF it ended up being Gatiss, I'm about 90% sure I'd walk away for good.

What did everyone think of Hounds of Baskerville then?
I thought it was the weakest episode they've done yet, but I may have been over excited as I love the original story.

However, I think it's very telling of the state of UK drama, that when Sherlock is less than it's best, it is STILL the best thing on TV!

Back after the Xmas break!

Round 2
Battle 02

The Leisure Hive Vs City of Death

The Leisure Hive

Pangol: How did you get out?"
The Doctor : "Through a hole in the back."
Pangol : "But there isn't one."
The Doctor : "There is now."

First Transmitted:

1 - 30/08/1980 18:15

3 - 13/09/1980 17:55
4 - 20/09/1980 18:15

Plot

The Doctor and Romana visit the Leisure Hive on the planet Argolis, the surface of which is uninhabitable following a twenty minute nuclear war between the Argolins and their enemies the Foamasi. The Argolins themselves are now sterile. Pangol, the youngest, was created by the Tachyon Recreation Generator, a machine that runs games in the Hive.

VS

City of Death

"I say, what a wonderful butler! He's so violent!"

First Transmitted:

1 - 29/09/1979 18:00
2 - 06/10/1979 18:15
3 - 13/10/1979 18:00
4 - 20/10/1979 18:15

Plot

The Doctor and Romana are enjoying a holiday in Paris, 1979, when they become aware of a fracture in time. During a visit to the Louvre to see da Vinci's Mona Lisa, the Doctor purloins from a stranger, Countess Scarlioni, a bracelet that is actually an alien scanner device.
He, Romana and a private detective named Duggan are then 'invited' to the chateau home of Count Scarlioni, where they find hidden in the cellar six additional Mona Lisas - all of them originals! The Count is revealed as an alien called Scaroth, last of the Jagaroth race. He was splintered in time when his ship exploded above primeval Earth, and in his twelve different aspects has since been guiding mankind's development to a point where time travel is possible.
4  The Leisure Hive / Satellite Five / Re: Sherlock on: January 02, 2012, 06:33:10 pm
As much as I loved it, I truly feel that Gattis pulls me out of the story every time he's on screen.
His "acting" was fine for a random & odd show like League of Gentlemen, but for a serious drama, no thanks.
As PRG says, to each their own, he just really isn't my cup of tea in the slightest.

Still, they're tackling Hound of the Baskervilles next week, and he isn't (or at least shouldn't be) in that!
5  The Leisure Hive / Satellite Five / Re: Sherlock on: January 01, 2012, 10:32:20 pm
Well worth the wait.
Brilliant, even though I still think Mark Gattis can't act.

Now, can Mr Moffat please inject this much talent, heart, enthusiasm etc into the good Doctor?
6  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Favourite Quotes From The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe on: December 30, 2011, 09:07:37 pm
The Doctor: I once knew the forest of cheem. She fancied me!

Loved that line, even though it was lighter than I'd have expected seeing as she gave her life for 9.
7  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Fifth Doctor references on: December 30, 2011, 09:06:14 pm
Oh, might it be this? From Four To Doomsday?

Let us not mention this again.
8  The Leisure Hive / Paradise Towers / Re: What did you get for Christmas? on: December 27, 2011, 11:12:57 pm
Posted in the other thread, but what the hey - the good lady based my Xmas on how disappointed I was with series 6.
She replaced ALL of my Nu Who pre 11 dvds (sadly sold when we were El Skinto last year), got me a Who mug for work, X-Men First Class on Blu-Ray and a stonking new Sony BD Player to watch it on.
Also got Firefly, Supernatural series 3 & the Jurassic Park Trilogy on Blu-Ray.

Very pleased, but I wanted Ten's coat with all my heart lol!
(I can make do with the Dean Winchester leather jacket I bought myself last month!)
9  The Leisure Hive / Paradise Towers / Re: Share A Random Fact on: December 27, 2011, 11:09:20 pm
...I desperately want David Tennant's hair.
Not in a locket or that like a creepy stalker  Evil - I want his cool hairdo.
10  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Poll: Favourite Christmas Special (so far) on: December 27, 2011, 11:06:19 pm
I went with the Christmas Invasion - it was the first special and I wasn't quite sure how they would pan out or how DT would pan out as the Doctor. This story put our minds at rest on both counts. Loved it.

Word for word.
I love the fanw@nkery of TEoT Pt II's ending though, but it was rotten otherwise. The others are watchable (just switch off TND pre Cyberking lol!) and A Christmas Carol is a very close second.
11  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Poll: The Moffat Era on: December 27, 2011, 02:23:24 pm
I think TC has made some great points which I've agreed with all along, but I'm afraid I could only in good concience go with a two.

I walked away from Who after the S6 finale (and, I should also add, Torchwood) aired - I needed a break from it all.
Series 6 for me feels like the Blade Trinity of Doctor Who. The character of The Doctor is almost made a supporting character in his own show for many episodes, as Moffat chose instead to focus on Amy Pond.

Series 6 had a couple of episodes I enjoyed a lot - The Doctor's Wife, AGMGTW, The God Complex; but the overall arc was complete tosh as far as I'm concerned.
The conceit of Amy & Rory giving up searching for their baby simply because she grows up to be River is utter nonsense, even moreso than the breathing/yelling in space we just had this past weekend.

Don't get me wrong, the RTD years gave too much focus to the companion(s) as well (paging Rose Tyler!), but the difference is - at least for me - Amy is an unlikeable, selfish b1tch most of the time.

Do you all remember the start of the Silurian episodes, where Rory went off getting into mischief etc? THAT is what the companions should be all about.

Another thing I'd add is that, despite all his tweets, the self absorbed smug interviews etc, Moffat has absolutely stretched himself too thin working on this, Sherlock, and whatever else he has up his sleeve (TinTin?)

I don't want to end on a negative though, so I'll say this - the look of the show is exceptional, and Murray Gold's music has been brilliant these past couple of years.
12  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Poll: Rate & Review The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe on: December 26, 2011, 09:49:42 am
The hammock diving was pretty darn funny.

Did anyone blink & miss Bill Bailey in this one?

As much as I personally didn't like it, I'm obviously very glad others did - if the show remains popular then it remains on air.

Oh, just to add to my previous pedantic-ism - Ten also addressed the whole space/breathing thing in Voyage of the Damned stating something along the lines of being "just like you". Maybe Moffat missed that ep.
(or maybe he didn't give a monekys)
13  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Poll: Rate & Review The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe on: December 25, 2011, 11:50:21 pm
Surely you get what I mean though?

I know there's a massive suspension of disbelief with this sort of show, but there are some things they should be sensible about.
It's a given that (unless you're possibly Superman) breathing in space is impossible - they even directly addressed it in The Pandorica Opens when he rescued River.
There was no TARDIS nearby either to "extend a bubble" or whatever the technobabble was to cover Amy dangling outside the TARDIS.

I know I'm probably being pedantic about it, but frankly I thought it a stupid thing to do, especially when followed up by him falling to Earth.

I mean, Tom Baker fell about a hundred feet and regenerated for crying out loud!
(although Ten also defied the laws of physics in TEoT Pt II)

All I can say is that must have been some fracking spacesuit to not burn up in an instant.
14  Travels In Time And Space / The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe / Re: Poll: Rate & Review The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe on: December 25, 2011, 09:18:46 pm
Sorry folks, a two from me.
Since when can The Doctor breathe - and shout - in space?

That aside, the story was ok, and the kids were impressive, but I really think I'm ready for a regeneration & for The Ponds to go away. Was not impressed when he turned up on their doorstep.

Wonder how much it cost to "borrow" a Lancaster Bomber for that cool shot near the end.

For me this ep just re-affirms for me that I don't like "The Moffat Era".
15  The Leisure Hive / Paradise Towers / Re: Merry Christmas Everyone on: December 25, 2011, 09:48:41 am
Merry Christmas to you all.
A very Who themed gift selection from me - series 1-4 box set, specials box set & a new Who mug for work!
Was convinced I was getting the Tennant coat, but sadly wasn't to be....this time!
16  The Leisure Hive / Satellite Five / Re: Once Upon A Time on: December 24, 2011, 08:06:26 pm
It was always kinda lurking I thought, but it didn't really bother me.

Is it just me, or is the Mayor/Wicked Stepmother WAAAAAAY hot?  Evil
She's so clearly the fairest of them all.
17  Travels In Time And Space / The 1970's / Re: The Fourth Doctor Story Tournament Round Two Battle One on: December 24, 2011, 08:04:04 pm
Here we go with round two at long last!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 2
Battle 01

Logopolis Vs Shada

Logopolis

"It's the end... but the moment has been prepared for."

First Transmitted:

1 - 28/02/1981 17:10
2 - 07/03/1981 17:10
3 - 14/03/1981 17:10
4 - 21/03/1981 17:10

Plot

The Doctor takes Adric and a young air hostess named Tegan Jovanka, who has come aboard the TARDIS by accident, to the planet Logopolis, home of a race of mathematicians whose help he hopes to enlist in reconfiguring the outer shell of the TARDIS.
The mysterious, wraith-like Watcher brings Nyssa from Traken to join them and warns of impending danger - something that is borne out as the Master arrives and kills a number of the Logopolitans

VS

Shada

"When I was on the river I heard the strange babble of inhuman voices, didn't you, Romana?"

Plot

The story revolves around the lost planet Shada, on which the Time Lords built a prison for defeated would-be conquerors of the universe. Skagra, an up-and-coming would-be conqueror of the universe, needs the assistance of one of the prison's inmates, but finds that nobody knows where Shada is anymore except one aged Time Lord who has retired to Earth, where he is masquerading as a professor at St. Cedd's College, Cambridge. Luckily for the fate of the universe, Skagra's attempt to force the information out of Professor Chronotis coincides with a visit by the professor's old friend, the Doctor.

Hi all, miss me?

Big thanks to Ror' & Double P for looking after this lot for me - so sorry everyone.

That's a very interesting question.
I'd like to think the latter.
