1  The Doctor In The TARDIS Help Centre / Suggestion Box / Re: RPs? on: August 07, 2013, 04:37:28 am
I've RPed as canon characters or original characters.

I had trouble getting into the site for a while, since the links weren't working besides the main page. Smiley

Owen, Jack and Rhys are now reserved by roleplayers for Torchwood, along with a new original character for Doctor Who and Torchwood.

Yessir, you got it- Fourth Doctor reserved for you!  Smiley Please feel free to contact me or other characters if you have story ideas, it will make it easier to get one or more characters talking. My whoniverse characters I've roleplayed have mostly been Gwen and Grace (here and on other sites).

Looks like she is available, thanks for stopping by!  I'll update the list to reserve the role for you.

"introduce your character" thread- about the Doctors, I'll see if we can locate the ones who have been active on the board.

My character isn't on the TARDIS, but maybe if you find one of the Doctors in that RP or in the introduce your character section they can help you out?

Welcome to the site, maybe I'll see you later on.

Fine with me  Smiley

I'll check in when I can... writing on forums still doesn't come as easily for me as some other sites, and people are often around posting in different timezones than I'm in. I know it's been awhile since I've been up to posting in RP, but I'll try to post on Rani or Gwen accounts soon.

I can reserve that character for you Smiley

(haven't been able to post much lately... RL busier than usual)

Cheers, I'll do what I can in the way of RP but many of you will be around in a different timezone than I am and some of you may want to consult with other DW characters, there's at least one Doctor around usually. I most often RP on TW- icon is relevant- though most people start out in the introduce your character thread and branch off from there. I'll be here when I can. x

Certainly, all classic companions are available if they aren't listed as taken Smiley

(seems my notificationer is occasionally out, apologies!)
12  Fanatical For Who / Doctor Who Roleplay / Re: Taken and Available Characters (Doctor Who) on: October 09, 2011, 04:56:35 am
Note: we may be bringing in new players for characters that were reserved at the beginning of the forum RP section but the character's account hasn't been registered, or the character hasn't been posted for. (this applies to all three areas of the RP section.) Please contact the RP mods if characters that fit into either of those categories should remain reserved. Thank you.

ETA: ownership of the Jack character may soon be transferred.

slow replies from me, RL is getting busier but I'm making it around to compose RP posts for all my accounts. I'll reply as soon as I can.  Smiley

I had some thoughts since looking at these sites, and in light of changes to the cast of these shows due to real life events and story-related incidents. This led to some RPers setting their role play in a past era of the series, and I discussed with several of them (including a discussion today while I was on my RP account with paperclipmuses who also posted on the subject of RP characters) the reasons why we don't always conform to canon. As I posted to Twitter today:

When I take on a character, it's because I want to represent that character, like when I'm on my real life account I represent my own views, on a RP account I represent each individual character's views. I wouldn't want to write the character at a distance, if that account was supposed to be what the character says or thinks. I RP Gwen so I can give her perspective on events, and so she doesn't have to be silent, and so her role can be present as she is in the TV series. I also enjoy the series 1-2 era of the show and branching off from the events of that time in Torchwood.

One thing that comes up is that if a character dies on the TV show, or an actor that plays a character dies in real life, often the group members will keep the character around if the role player still wants to play that character who is not on the show anymore in canon. It goes to show what an integral part of the series they are if people still want to write fanfiction or RP about that era of the show that they were in, and pay tribute to them in that way. I know I appreciate being able to interact with those characters in RP, even if it isn't possible to watch them in new episodes of a TV show anymore.

We can still have RPs with Sarah Jane and the Brigadier in them, just as there can be Torchwood RPs with Owen, Tosh and Ianto. It seems to be too soon for the RP characters to assume there can be no more stories featuring these characters just because it isn't canon anymore. I know I would want to continue writing about the character as a tribute to them.

A very unfortunate loss for all who knew her and saw her performances as Sarah Jane, and she'll certainly be missed. RIP Elisabeth Sladen.

Many sites are set up to provide tips and resources for all types of role players. The @RPFollowBack (http://twitterrpg.com), @RolePlaySupport, and @TheRP_diaries Twitter accounts, with their related websites, are some of the latest whose posts to give both new and experienced RPers a sense of what will make it easier to find the way into participating in a roleplaying game. Some RP groups have their own site to keep track of which characters are in the group and tips for followers, like the @Grimmverse Twitter account, or that represent a particular fandom or series that attracts RPers, such as @WhoRP's account that posts information about RP in the Doctor Who universe. These are just some of the many resources I've noticed and follow online that give players and other curious followers a place to start in the world of RP.
19  The Doctor In The TARDIS Help Centre / The Noticeboard / Re: Censored Words on: April 04, 2011, 03:45:46 am
Occasionally words are obscured that aren't naughty at all but, as you said, contain another word in the middle of it. We all know they use certain words in Torchwood and in fanfics of it but you'd expect it there, wouldn't you? X) Slightly amusing, that this rule is in place by the forum hosts, but what can you do?  ;@
20  Fanatical For Who / Doctor Who Roleplay / Re: Introduce Your Character on: March 13, 2011, 05:13:05 am
I think I'm doing this right - apologies if I'm not. Can I please assume the character of the Delgado Master, and possibly the 1973-5 Sontarans?

Certainly, just send a message to The Doc with your choices of characters before you make a second account, or more accounts, for the purposes of RP.  Smiley
