41  Travels In Time And Space / The Hub / Re: What If Jack Becomes Mortal? on: January 11, 2011, 01:29:27 am
Sorry, I'm not going to go the route of choosing up which character is least liked and wishing something horrible will happen to them. If that's what the new series is going to be about, I'm starting not to like the idea so much.

This is a new forum RP section, with different RP styles that the various members are used to. The moderators are sorting out what each category will do, and it should get under way once the main characters like the Doctor and Jack are online more and we set up their introductions.
44  Travels In Time And Space / Torchwood: Miracle Day / Re: Torchwood Gets New Title And Plot on: January 10, 2011, 09:17:36 pm
A lot of Torchwood fans might be resistant to the writers and producers bringing such a different approach to the show. While original Torchwood was a departure from Doctor Who, as I'm starting to read the New Adventures I notice that those books from the 1990s have a lot in common with Torchwood in bringing more adult themes into the settings of aliens and other planets. Some of the Torchwood writers have written in the horror genre before, however, the target audience from the first two seasons was not expecting the earth-shattering themes brought forth in the third and fourth seasons. This theme sounds more in common with a zombie film than the previous science fiction and romantic themes of before, at least at this early date.

Angry  No way on the bashing up Andy. Do what you want to Jack, but hands off Gwen, Andy, and Rhys.

Short check-in before going off... yes, it's time to go out after a long weekend. Bye for now!

The Shakespeare Code, a good story to show off a different era, in the tradition of the classic historical episodes of Doctor Who.

I really liked this one and the earlier cartoon with Martha, "The Infinite Quest." Adventure, aliens and lots of different settings, worth watching as a supplement to the live action seasons!
50  76 Totter's Lane / Silence In The Library / Re: Shooting Scripts on: January 09, 2011, 10:51:50 pm
I've seen the Christopher Eccleston series around as a book of scripts and others out there for the classic series. I find the fan transcripts of the episodes online for the new series and Torchwood useful for looking up quotes and descriptions of the scenes, since I don't think all of these episodes have been released as script books. These include the http://community.livejournal.com/tw_transcripts/ postings for Torchwood and http://who-transcripts.atspace.com/ for Doctor Who new series 1-4.

Interesting background, a lot of science fiction also uses ancient myths as a basis for their storylines. Star Trek the original series often took the idea of gods and beings with special powers adapted to aliens and other planets, as other series have done.

As long as they keep on the science fiction track and not in the apocalypse or horror direction, it could work. I think science fiction is more about the characters and story, while horror places less importance on the characters due to having an unstoppable villain or threat. In Torchwood we've seen an importance placed on preserving life, even though people died in the show it wasn't trivialized; however, CoE did take a turn for a less hopeful scenario when the team began to doubt that they would have any control over their future. Maybe they can find a way in the new series to restore agency and power to the name of Torchwood rather than allowing the government to take control from them.

I'm thinking the RP could go sort of like what happens in a dressing room or like Twitter to start out with; anyone of the RP characters can start a new thread in the relevant section or have characters that they might know from the series contribute, so the players can get to know each other. Feel free to RP on the forum, it adds to the community!
53  Travels In Time And Space / Torchwood: Miracle Day / Re: Torchwood Gets New Title And Plot on: January 08, 2011, 05:19:25 am
This seems to come up a lot lately with Russell T Davies and his stories in which something big happens all over the world. There was Children of Earth, "The End of Time" in Doctor Who, even the Cybermen in every home in "Army of Ghosts." It's a departure from the Cardiff focused situations of the first two seasons; though there's still Jack and Gwen, Andy and Rhys to represent original Torchwood and I would like to see the four of them again.

Master trilogy has been so overhyped, so votin' for Adam instead. The characters all get to be different, and ironically more about their true selves are revealed with the contrast.
56  Travels In Time And Space / The Hub / Re: Seven Years Of Torchwood on: January 05, 2011, 09:17:37 pm
It would be a good idea to show scenes of everyday life in the new season to contrast with the action and adventure.  CoE was about uprooting all the characters, even their established home and work bases.  If they're going to continue for many more seasons they should have other options to rebuild what got taken away from them.  On Doctor Who they have the TARDIS to go back to, on Torchwood they had the Hub there for the first two seasons, though Gwen may have been mostly spending time at home with the family.  However, with Jack returning, they may have the opportunity to reclaim the old Hub area, or else find another base to run Torchwood from.

Glad you could join us.  Smiley

Some of the RPers from other sites, like me, have been using one account per character on those sites to show which character is talking at that time or when I'm posting as myself. (Certainly, someone could do it either way here, one account or separate ones for RP and RL posts.)  It varies from different sites with various degrees of free-form or more regulated RP depending on the format. We've been establishing the rules and scenarios for the RPs on this forum as well as recruiting more characters since the RP boards were opened two days ago.
58  Fanatical For Who / Doctor Who Roleplay / Character List on: January 03, 2011, 04:49:37 am
This Character List includes roles that have been taken and suggestions for more roles that are available in Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures roleplay.  This is just the beginning, you may also want to play other companions, human and alien visitors, enemies, original characters that weren't in the series, or characters from other series like Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and more. Contact The Doc to start a second account, modify an existing account or join the forum for RP purposes. The list will be edited and updated as more characters join up.  Send a message to the forum RP moderators or administrator if you are interested in applying for a character and joining the RP!

We're hoping to hear back from more potential roleplayers to add to the list of characters as well and learn what types of storylines they are up for. We have a general idea of where the characters will be situated in the canon to allow for more interaction and availability, such as Torchwood being in the beginning of series 2 after Jack has found the Doctor. That way if Torchwood wants to interact with him or Sarah Jane, all five of the main team can be there to talk.  There might also be separate threads if RPers want to explore a past or future timeline. RP can do things differently from canon, in my experience people tend to interact across series and characters meet that didn't have as much screen time together.
