62  Fanatical For Who / Doctor Who Roleplay / RP Section Introduction on: January 02, 2011, 12:19:33 am
In "The Myth Makers" section of the forum, Role Players can post with their RP accounts, playing out fictional scenarios through written comments and posts. Role Players in this section should treat other players and their choice of characters with respect. The three main areas are for Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. There may be separate threads for past or future events within those areas, including different scenarios for the various regenerations of the Doctor.

Seems to be mostly because he was Jack's lover. I did like Owen, in part because he slept with Gwen, good times. XD He was king of the weevils too, awesome moment there. But Ianto, not so awesome; I just never saw the big deal with him.

Random Shoes was quite good, I think it fulfilled the goal of Torchwood to show what effect alien influence has on everyday human life. The Sarah Jane Adventures also has the theme of "life on earth can be an adventure too," so people can find something extraordinary even in everyday life. While the Torchwood themes tend to be darker than SJA or Doctor Who, they do at times bring out a sense of wonder about the universe.  Cool

If Ianto fans are going to be putting down the other characters, they're going to lose supporters for their cause; they can't expect everyone to like him as much as they do after using those tactics. Indeed, the show's Facebook page was already removing commenters who just went on there to demand Ianto back, since they weren't contributing to the discussion. James Moran had posted about those fans last year, saying they shouldn't be so aggressive if they want access to the writers and actors of Torchwood, but I'm not sure if they'd listen.

They do have Gwen with her husband and child so I doubt they'll actually say Jack and Gwen are in love. It seems to be more of a connection they have because they care about each other and have worked together, especially since it was also said that Jack will meet and have a romantic interest in other people during the season.

Anwen is a girl's name in Welsh, seems to be a form of Gwen, probably why they chose it as the new child's name.

If they're going by real time, the child could be around a year old by the time the show resumes.

It took me a while to get into Twitter before I started posting a lot there; this list has been going around about the stages of Twitter usage http://thechrisvossshow.com/the-46-stages-of-twitter/. I can relate to a lot of it!
69  Travels In Time And Space / Series 5 / Re: Poll: The Best Christmas Special on: December 30, 2010, 10:48:35 pm
The first episode I watched when it was new was VOTD and starting with series 4 in 2008 I saw each new episode on Saturdays; before that I only saw the Doctor Who episodes on DVD or on PBS repeats. It is very exciting to watch the episodes soon after they're aired, especially during Christmastime. I voted for A Christmas Carol in this poll, because it had a very Christmas theme and is based on the Charles Dickens story that a lot of people associate with the holidays.  Smiley

Yeah, and now some Ianto fans are complaining on Twitter that Ianto is being bashed? That's nothing compared to the bashing some of the supporters of the save Ianto campaign have aimed at Gwen and even Jack for still being on the show.  Sad  I don't really hate Ianto, yet as I was watching the show again, I noticed he wasn't in it as much compared to the amount of fanfiction and blogs that have been written about him.

Gwen, Jack and Owen had the most stories centered around them in the first two seasons, with Tosh and Ianto usually supporting them.  In the third season they did have more scenes for Ianto, Rhys and Andy since they had lost Owen and Tosh. But Jack is still the main character of Torchwood and Gwen is the second in command, so they could very well build another team without Ianto being around.

Lovely Christmas show, as they usually are, Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins were amazing alongside the Doctor. And Amy and Rory back in their policewoman and Roman outfits were great, especially since the action figures were just released of them in those costumes.  Smiley  Overall a very good episode to watch on Christmas Day!
72  Travels In Time And Space / The Hub / Re: Seven Years Of Torchwood on: December 26, 2010, 12:02:38 am
If they can make it fun again... Doctor Who proves that you can alternate dark and light moments sometimes even in the same episode. While there were amusing moments in CoE, they were overshadowed by the events of the fourth and fifth parts.

Maybe with the new focus on adventure with the world travel theme we can see Gwen and Jack working together, having gotten past what happened in series 3.  If the Doctor can enjoy travelling even after the Time War and destruction of Gallifrey, the Torchwood team can rebuild and make a new team for future seasons.

Yeah, seems like every character has their moments of making a *zomg huge mistake* especially the "new girl" and the "teaboy," but even the "techie" and "smart guy doctor" get told off by Jack for something they did. Usually because they went right ahead and did stuff without saying something to him first, and I'm sure everyone has done something like that, especially when they start a new job. Gwen just gets the blame a lot of the time from viewers because she's the newest and shows her emotions the most. Not to mention the whole thing with Jack recruiting her and spending time with her. But yes, Ianto does look unprepared as well, since he was like the personal assistant at Torchwood One and now he's put forward as one of the main defenders of Earth.

It seemed like in "Ghost Machine" that the alien device started reacting as soon as someone picked it up, since the same thing happened when Owen and Bernie had it. And Owen and Gwen were drawn to each other, like they went through many traumatic experiences together and they needed some outlet to make it better. I think they would react in an extreme fashion when they had just been put in many dangerous situations. Though season 1 is a bit uneven due to the writers putting in as many things as they could think of to emphasize the "adult" nature of the program, and distinguish it from Doctor Who. I still think the show really got into gear by series 2. Smiley

I decided to start watching the series again from the beginning. Maybe it's because I know the characters well by now but it's even better upon repeated viewings!  The first episode is a real favorite of mine and series 2 is also a lot of fun when they started to get into more of the character arcs.

80  The Doctor In The TARDIS Help Centre / Suggestion Box / Re: RPs? on: December 15, 2010, 09:57:51 pm
Many RPs are on forums, LiveJournal or play by email where the action takes place over several days depending on when people can respond.  Sometimes the Twitter RPs can have a scene going on that isn't in real time because of different timezones where the RPers are, but other times the players chat when they're all online at the same time.  So, on a forum they could have multiple scenes going on in separate threads depending on who's available.  Smiley
