But I do ship them, I ship them hard! lmfao

That's what I was saying! I adore Ten/Rose and Nine/Rose.

I said this in another thread, but I have not warmed to Amy at all.

I preferred her as the little girl!

You're so right about character evolvement - I don't want to sit and watch a Mary Sue who can immediately do everything and do it well in a short skirt.

She grew up sheltered and waiting for this 'raggedy doctor' - why don't they show an older girl who is a consequence of that? Someone fearful, and isolated and insecure. Then gradually build her up experiencing all the things she dreamed about? They could have done SO MUCH with that idea.

Part of what makes Donna's story so tragic is that the person she became - the person the Doctor showed her who she could be - was lost to her forever. That person was brought to light slowly, through adventures and experiences.

And just...ugh. The kissogram thing? Really? Is this just an excuse to put her in sexy outfits? WTF.

I'm very much a newbie to the Doctor Who universe, and I fell for the dynamic between Rose and The Doctor straight away - it's what hooked me in.

The first episode I saw was School Reunion and the scene where she confronts him and asks him if he'll abandon her like he did Sarah Jane and the others, and he says "No, not you." was just so powerful and loaded. I had to go back and watch everything.

I don't really understand the hate for Rose from people in the fandom. She was only very young, but I loved the idea that a normal, everyday girl could bring the most powerful, dynamic man in the universe to his knees. The fact that he loved her was amazing. I don't know whether that's just foolish naivety on my part but I'm so drawn to that.

I bawled my way through Doomsday, and it took me ages to muster up the courage to watch Journey's End. I was disappointed with some things, but Rose wasn't as much of a focus in Season 2 as she was in the first season. If you look at her character as a lens through which the audience sees everything, then naturally by season 2 we are all more self aware and we know more.

I still get chills hearing the music from Doomsday, I love all the little references to Rose/BadWolf along the way. I guess she symbolised something that I love about Doctor Who as a character - that he could fall in love, that while he was impenetrable and seemed impossible to best by his enemies, he was capable of being vunerable to those emotions.

As far as them acting like flirty teenagers, I kind of liked that in some ways! Some of the episodes were so full of angst it was nice to have something to break them up.

Anyway, that's my big nonsensical rant. Poo to Rose haters I say lol
4  Fanatical For Who / Appreciation Threads / Re: Eleven is Awesome! on: September 07, 2010, 06:11:13 pm
I just saw The Eleventh Hour first the first time, and I definitely think he is going to be the best thing about Season 5.

I had reservations (10 is very much my doctor, followed by 9) but I love the fact that they all bring something different to the role - 9 had gravitas and angst, 10 had a childlike innocence and fascination in everything and 11 seems so 'alien-y' as someone said, he's awkward and you really believe he's an old soul.

I'm not so sure about Amy though. I actually preferred her as a little girl to tell you the truth, I loved those scenes and there's something potent about the idea of having a Doctor has someone's faux imaginary friend. I wish it could have been explored more.
5  Fanatical For Who / Appreciation Threads / Re: How about some love for Nine? on: September 06, 2010, 05:28:08 pm
I have enormous love for Nine. He was adorable, and 'Rose' is probably one of my favourite Doctor Who episodes.

He was a different kind of Doctor. He had a seriousness and a gravitas and an angst about him. You really believed that he had been through a great War, that he'd seen so many terrible things.

He could switch moods on a dime too.

All the doctors have their positives and negatives, I've never understood why people argue so much about it.

Nine is definitely criminally ignored though. Sad
6  Fanatical For Who / Loathing Threads / Re: Dislike for River Song on: September 06, 2010, 05:26:14 pm
I really didn't like River Song either, and it's like it was mentioned earlier, she reeked of Mary Sue.

I think part of the problem is the audience was expected to accept - okay, we've had so many years of coming to terms with this all powerful alien 'man' who can do all these incredible things, but in five minutes we are supposed to accept that he fell completely for this woman in the future, and okay now she knows just as much and even more than he does. She can fly the TARDIS (and no one can do that), she knows his real name etc etc.

There was no slow build, no foreshadowing. She just came out of nowhere. Rose and Donna and Martha built up their characters and became matches for the doctor after a long time, and lots of character building for both them and the audience.

This woman comes in and it's like, "Well, you just have to accept that she's a special snowflake."

No thanks.

And P.S.  stop saying Spoilers. It's not cute.
7  The Doctor In The TARDIS Help Centre / Introductions / Hello! :) on: September 05, 2010, 05:23:11 pm
Another newbie!

1) Name - Em
2) Location - Australia
3) Fav Doctor, episode, etc - Fave doctor is Ten, episode is too hard to tell! I loved the whole second season. I also loved the first season too, so can I skip this question?! lol
4) When you became a fan - Not that long ago actually! I resisted for so long. Then I caught School Reunion on cable and there was something in the whole Rose / Ten dynamic that interested in me, and made me watch the rest. I still haven't seen all of Season 3, or some of the specials, or Season 5 though.
5) Anything else you'd like to share! I'm trying to watch everything David Tennant related and review everything. *le sigh* tough job, but someone's got to do it.

Can't wait to meet everyone! <3 <3  Grin
