Ok, so first off I take no credit for this theory. I saw it elsewhere and it was cool so I thought I would share it here Neil Gaiman said that his episode (ep4) will contain something or someone not seen since the War Games. How about if it was the Time Lords Communication Box? Here it is in The War Games And here is something from the trailer which could be the same thing....? Now onto my part of the speculation: Could it be that somehow the Doctor recieves a message from the Time Lords? Maybe it is one sent before they are wiped out, or it could be from Idris (Suranne Jones) the 'old aquaintence with a new face' or maybe even some Time Lords in hiding. My other theory is that it is a trap and someone other than a Time Lord uses it to comminicate with the Doctor. Also, if you look at Amy and Rory in the background, they are wearing the clothes from the filming of Gaimans episode, so it is safe to say that the glowy box belongs in that story, even if it isnt the communicator device. What do you all think?

That would be seriously cool. They do look reasonably alike.

That would be very cool. I hope its this. Or the SIDRAT that went off course with the Nazi's and cavalliers inside. It would be more cool if it had something to do with communicating with the Time Lords though

Roranicus I am LOVING this theory. Even if it isn't the basis of a story then it damn well should be! A time lord trap of sorts

It was either in the last or penultimate War Games episode and if i remember rightly it was some sort of telepathic thing

I've seen it, I just don't remember anything to do with a box so couldn't remember how it worked

Well it seems like a popular idea so I am glad I mentioned it. I really do hope that it is something like this that they use

Well if this is true, I guess it would rule out the War Lord and 'Idris is Zoe' theories

What exactly did the box do? Was it like a phone or something?
It was never exactly explained, but what happened was that the Doctor laid out squares of some material on the floor and sat meditating. The pieces levitated and formed themselves into a box, which the Doctor said now contained a full report of what had happened, along with a request for help. He kept it in his pocket for a while (perhaps hoping he didn't have to send it) then sat meditating again with the box on the floor in front of him. There was a white-out, and when the image returned, the box was gone. The Time Lords responded within a few minutes.

Maybe its The Key To Time. Didnt that feature 'The Mutes'? Cousins of 'The Silents' maybe? Not related to The War Games but a possible link to the box the Doctor has in that picture

THAT WOULD BE BRILLIANT!
I am seiously loving all the different theories in here. Even if it is completely off track that would fit in so well.

That would be very cool. So perhaps a return of the Black/White Guardians? Ir Mary Tamm

MmmmmmmmmmmMary Tammmmmmmmmmmmmm Sorry got lost for a second there This is also another brilliant theory. Not sure how they would fit the Key To Time in there though, and not sure why it would be in the TARDIS, but the Silents/Mutes connection is a good one and the boxes certainly look similar

There is a rumour circulating that the cube is not the only link to The War Games that we will see, so everyone needs to keep an eye out
