The Tenth Planet proceeds to the next round 4-3

<All, my sincere apologies. I made a boo-boo & pasted in Edge of Destruction originally when it should have been The Aztecs (The Daleks already beat EoD in Round 2). With that in mind, I've now amended the post & to avoid confusion, I'll delete the original votes posted for this battle.
So, so sorry!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3
Battle 03

The Daleks Vs The Aztecs

The Daleks

"You wanted advice, you said. I never give it. Never. But I might just say this for you. Always search for truth. My truth is in the stars, and yours... is here."

First Transmitted:

The Dead Planet - 21/12/1963 17:15
The Survivors - 28/12/1963 17:15
The Escape - 04/01/1964 17:15
The Ambush - 11/01/1964 17:15
The Expedition - 18/01/1964 17:15
The Ordeal - 25/01/1964 17:15
The Rescue - 01/02/1964 17:15

Plot

The TARDIS has brought the travellers to the planet Skaro where they meet two indigenous races - the Daleks, malicious mutant creatures encased in armoured travel machines, and the Thals, beautiful humanoids with pacifist principles. They convince the Thals of the need to fight for their own survival.....

VS

The Aztecs

"But you can't rewrite history! Not one line! Barbara, one last appeal: what you are trying to do is utterly impossible. I know! Believe me, I know!"

First Transmitted:

The Temple of Evil - 23/05/1964 17:15
The Warriors of Death - 30/05/1964 17:15
The Bride of Sacrifice - 06/06/1964 17:15
The Day of Darkness - 13/06/1964 17:15

Plot

The TARDIS arrives in fifteenth century Mexico inside the tomb of one-time Aztec High Priest Yetaxa. The travellers become cut off from the ship when they explore the temple outside and the tomb door closes behind them. Barbara is proclaimed by the High Priest of Knowledge, Autloc, as Yetaxa's divine reincarnation. However, she incurs the enmity of the High Priest of Sacrifice, Tlotoxl, when - against the Doctor's advice - she attempts to use her new-found authority to put an end to the Aztec practice of human sacrifice....

I think I may have killed the thread with my boo-boo.

I'll vote for The Daleks to start it off.

Love both, but The Aztecs is one of my favourite First Doctor stories (possibly just one of my favourites ever) so it has to get my vote

Two of William Hartnell's finest stories. The Daleks wins by a very small margin.

Round 3
Battle 4

The Time Meddler Vs The War Machines

The Time Meddler

"That is the dematerialisation control, and that over yonder is the horizontal hold. Up there is the scanner, those are the doors, that is a chair with a panda on it... Sheer poetry, dear boy! Now please stop bothering me!"

First Transmitted:

The Watcher - 03/07/1965 18:55
The Meddling Monk - 10/07/1965 17:40
A Battle of Wits - 17/07/1965 17:40
Checkmate - 24/07/1965 17:40

Plot

The TARDIS arrives on an English coastline in the year 1066. Exploring, the Doctor discovers that one of his own people, the Monk, is conspiring to wipe out the Viking fleet and thus allow King Harold to face the forces of William of Normandy with a fresh army at the Battle of Hastings....

VS

The War Machines

"I can feel it... it's got something... sort of powerful... it's... Look at my skin! Look at that! I've got that prickling sensation. The... sensation again... the same... just as I had when I fought the Daleks... those Daleks were near!"

First Transmitted:

1 - 25/06/1966 17:35
2 - 02/07/1966 18:55
3 - 09/07/1966 17:35
4 - 16/07/1966 17:15

Plot

The TARDIS arrives in London in 1966 and the Doctor and Dodo visit the Post Office Tower. There they meet Professor Brett, whose revolutionary new computer WOTAN (Will Operating Thought ANalogue) can actually think for itself and is shortly to be linked up to other major computers around the world - a project overseen by civil servant Sir Charles Summer.

It transpires however that WOTAN considers that humans are inferior to machines and should therefore be ruled by them. Exerting a hypnotic influence, it arranges the construction of War Machines - heavily-armed, self-contained mobile computers - with which to take over the world.

Two of my favourites, but I instantly loved The Time Meddler, whereas the other needed to grow on me

Now this is a tough one. Another two brilliant stories. The War Machines gets the vote, but only just.

Semi Finals
Battle 01

The Romans Vs The Tenth Planet

The Romans

"Caesar Nero. I've always wanted to put on a good show; to give a great performance. After all, who knows, if I go down well, I might even make it my farewell performance. You see, I've always wanted to be considered as an artist of some taste, generally considered as palatable, hmm?"

First Transmitted

The Slave Traders - 16/01/1965 17:40
All Roads Lead to Rome - 23/01/1965 17:40
Conspiracy - 30/01/1965 17:40
Inferno - 06/02/1965 17:40

Plot

The four time travellers are enjoying a rare holiday, staying at a villa not far from Rome in the year 64 AD. The Doctor soon becomes restless and sets off to visit the city, taking Vicki with him. In their absence, Ian and Barbara are kidnapped by slave traders.

VS

The Tenth Planet

""What did you say, my boy? It's all over? That's what you said... but it isn't at all. It's far from being all over..." "

First Transmitted:

1 - 08/10/1966 17:50
2 - 15/10/1966 17:50
3 - 22/10/1966 17:50
4 - 29/10/1966 17:50

Plot

The TARDIS arrives in December 1986 at a South Pole Space Tracking station where the personnel, under the command of General Cutler, are engaged in trying to talk down a manned space capsule that has got into difficulty.

The Doctor realises that the problem stems from the gravitational pull of another planet that has entered the solar system and is now heading for Earth. His words are borne out when the base is invaded by a force of alien Cybermen.....
