Round 1
Battle 04

The Web Planet Vs The Crusade

The Web Planet

"Apart from rubbing our legs together like some sort of grasshopper, I doubt if we can get on speaking terms with them."

First Transmitted:
The Web Planet - 13/02/1965 17:40
The Zarbi - 20/02/1965 17:40

Invasion - 13/03/1965 17:40
The Centre - 20/03/1965 17:55

Plot

A strange power drain forces the TARDIS to materialise on the planet Vortis. There, the Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki become involved in the plans of the butterfly-like Menoptra to reclaim their planet from the parasitic Animus that is slowly enveloping it with its web-like domain, the Carsenome.

VS

The Crusade

"There is something new in you, yet something older than the sky itself. I sense that I can trust you."

First Transmitted:

The Lion - 27/03/1965 17:40
The Knight of Jaffa - 03/04/1965 17:40
The Wheel of Fortune - 10/04/1965 17:40
The Warlords - 17/04/1965 17:40

Plot

The TARDIS arrives in 12th Century Palestine where a holy war is in progress between the forces of King Richard the Lionheart and the Saracen ruler Saladin. Barbara is abducted in a Saracen ambush and the Doctor, Ian and Vicki make their way to King Richard's palace in the city of Jaffa. Ian is granted permission to ride in search of Barbara - the King knighting him Sir Ian of Jaffa to fit him for the role - while the Doctor and Vicki stay behind and try to avoid getting involved in court politics.

The Crusade

The Web Planet is one of my least favourites of the classic series

I haven't seen it, but it truly looks like the epitomy of everything people used to slag off about Doctor Who!

The Web Planet - I've never quite got the antipathy towards this one.  Yes, the effects are a bit crap by modern standards, but I still remember the effect of watching this as a kid in 1965.

Same here, The Daleks for me too. That's possibly one of the most iconic Doctor Who images.
This could possibly be a shut out.

One of the easiest - The Daleks.  The early part of The Sensorites is good enough to make it a classic, but I felt it tailed off a bit from about halfway through.
