For the first time ever, you will soon be able to build your own figures for Doctor Who. It's not quite Lego like many people wanted, but they do look great. Below is from the BBC Press Office about the new range that has just been licensed.

BBC Worldwide is delighted to announce a major new deal with Character Options' new Construction division which will see Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time.

The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play. The entire range will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair with the first products set for release in Spring 2011.

They look brilliant and I can't wait for this release. As soon as prices are announced I will update Smiley

Ha they are brilliant! I will be picking these up. They look better than anything Lego would have done anyway so the BBC were right to hold off the licence

The Cyberman one has Rory strapped to a converter. An upcoming story hint perhaps?

Now that set I might just have to get even if I get nothing else, which reminds me I want to get the proper 11 Doctors set as well!  Smiley

Well Cybermen are in an upcoming episode and it is set in a factory so its not a massive stretch. Perhaps its like some sort of cryptic spoiler

The Micro ficures are going to be available in little packs, but you won't be able to tell which one you get.

Each highly detailed and collectable construction figure includes a Doctor Who display base and collectors leaflet highlighting all the characters available in Series 1. There are 10 micro-figures to collect. One supplied. Daleks micro-figures do not include display base.

That's a great idea for people who don't want (or can't afford) the sets - even with the potential to get duplicates. I wish LEGO would do something similar as I love the little figs - still I'm contenting myself with collecting minifig keyrings  Smiley
