Some stories are brilliant but get largely forgotten or disregarded, while others are a bit bad or bogstandard and seem to get all the respect and credit. Which stories do you think are the most over and underrated of Doctor Who, Torchwood and SJA?

For me I think one of the most overrated stories, of NuWho at least, is the Utopia Trilogy of series 3. Though it was written well enough I can't say I particularly liked the actual story.
As for underrated, I don't think Gridlock gets enough love. Its a brilliant story

I've always enjoyed The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, but I think it is very overated as a story. Although enjoyable, I think it is a very standard story and I don't get what all the fuss was about. The same goes for Blink. It was one of the first **** timey wimey stories most people had seen and so people were a bit blind to its faults I think and again, though it is enjoyable enough, its nowhere near as great as some make out

I adore the episode 'Midnight' but I rarely see it getting mentioned as a favorite. Therefore, I must assume it is underrated I agree with Roranicus that Gridlock is an amazing episode/story!

I really liked Blink, but everyone was all 'OMG its the best ever, go watch it' and I think the hype surrounding it is probably a bit more than it deserves. It was good, but it wasnt spectacular

I'm gonna stir the hornet's nest and say that Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks gets a great deal of completely undeserved malice. People say that it ruined the Daleks or whatever, but I really don't feel anything like that from it. Dalek Sec came up with an admittedly un-Dalek plan to keep his race alive, yes - but people didn't seem to be watching when the other Daleks turned around and killed him for it. Very Dalek, if you ask me. I wasn't crazy about the lousy American accents (especially Tallulah's), but I think Hugh Quarshie did a fine job portraying an excellent character; Martha was actually able to hold her own without having to scream for the Doctor - something she wouldn't manage again until the painfully contrived finale; and we didn't have to sit through any "Oooooh, Martha's Mom is being baaaaaad, oooooh!!" tosh, which just wouldn't go away for the rest of the season.
As for overrated, I can't not mention End of Time. Barring the first and last 20 minutes, what an absolute pile of rubbish that was. The scenes with the Doctor and the Master playing hide-and-seek in the construction zone was silly. The Naismiths were a thin plot device who you forgot about after the first half hour. The Master's plan, which he apparently came up with on maybe ten minute's notice, was just plain goofy - as were the special effects used to showcase it (slot machine faces? Really?). The only part of this entire story I appreciated the way I think was intended was the interplay between the Doctor and Wilf. Excellent scenes, no question about it. I think one of the most touching scenes in the entire new series, I think, is where Wilf is begging the Doctor to take the gun - or when the Doctor says he'd be proud if Wilf were his Dad.

Urgh, Okay... Overrated episodes... so many of them! Blink and End of Time the most! Cannot stand Blink one bit! I get bored after about five minutes!
Underrated episodes... totally agree with Gridlock, and I love Boom Town- another episode I think doesn't get enough credit!

Overrated? The Hungry Earth duo. I've never been more bored watching Who. Is End of Time overrated? Maybe it's because I only read this forum for Who comments (and STV), but I've never heard particularly good things about it (deservedly so, terrible eps). I must say though, I do love Blink and hate Gridlock

I think Turn Left is overrated... Most of the ep was illogical and while it was an interesting theory, I don't believe that the Doctor would have died/stayed there till he died and if he had a truely doubt he wouldn't have regenerated. Then, despite personally having an obvious theory, why could some people see a stupid beetle on her back (It was stupid), Why would they move to Leeds, surely it falls under being in the EU that we are able to move to other countries, plus I think that the way Rose travelled was stupid *vazhoom - appears* -> *fades out* huh? *rolls eyes* I am going to stop, I feel ranty... I have more points though Reading everyone elses posts about Moff episodes Seriously? Underrated... Hmm... I too would like to place Midnight in this category, when it was first on I was completely against it, I will admit, but once you see the theory and context it is amazing. Seriously, once I had watched the full length Doctor Who Confidential Episode, I loved it, it all made far more sense and the mechanics were way more amazing...

I think the Human Nature/Family of Blood is severly overrated. I like watching the Doctor not some dude named John Smith fall in love with a girl.
If I wanted to see that I would watch (for the Americans) Days of Our Lives or (for the Brits) Eastenders.
No thanks.

The thing about episodes like Blink and The Empty Child is that sure, they're brilliant the first time you watch them. But once you know what's going to happen, it's pretty boring... So while they seem to end up getting overrated, it's really just because it's not the kind of episode that can really be rewatched.
I'd say that the most underrated I can think of is Dalek. It was a brillliant way to re-introduce the Daleks, and they were even more powerful than before. But no one seems to remember that one, or any of the first season for that matter.

That's what I liked it for, to be honest. It was the one time when the show really could be. We actually had a human Doctor. Well we didn't. We all knew he was a Time Lord, but he didn't and that's what made his 'love story' really great. It's the only time in the entire run that I have believed the Doctors feelings for another. More than with Rose or Reinette or anyone else. He and Joan in that story just felt so real.
