It says that this is the place for lively debate so how about this.

Out of DW6 and TW4, which are you most looking forward to and why?

There is a risk at the moment that both shows will be changing a considerable amount and becoming very different. For me with DW, I am concerned about the direction that Moffat is taking the show and with TW I am worried its becoming too Americanised and changing too much from the show I already know and really like, but my excitement levels lay higher with Torchwood because I am intrigued to see where RTD will take the show. I might hate it, but I can't wait to see it. Doctor Who sounds like there will be some good stories but I am not keen on all the secretive plotlines and whatnot. I love the characters but I want straight down the line adventure stories. I will watch and no doubt enjoy both, but I am looking forward to Torchwood the most this year. What about you?

This year its actually a tough one. I would say Doctor Who though because as much as I am excited for both, I just want to know whats going on with River.

Doctor Who for me. I have to be honest though it is mainly because of River that I am looking forward to it.

I'm going Torchwood for sure.
In a big part because it's been off air longer & I miss it!

I'm looking to Doctor Who with a bit of nervous aprehension if I'm honest - if it can keep the momentum of the finale & Xmas special, cool, but there's a niggling feeling at the back of my mind.

I'm always up for BARROWMAN! being Jack instead of being on every reality show going.
And I miss Eve Myles.

DW most definitely - so much is going to be going on/revealed this year. Absolutely can't wait. Cool

Aside from COE Torchwood has never done it for me so my anticipation for the the new series is non existent in comparison. Sorry Sad

Doctor Who for me. That would've been my answer anyway but after the trailer at the end of A Christmas Carol - WOW! - I really wish I had a TARDIS so I could zip forward & watch it now.

I am also looking forward to Doctor Who more, but then again I have barely started season 2 of Torchwood.

I have to say, I can't understand when people say they "don't like the direction Moffat is taking the show". I realise everyone has different likes and dislikes, but I simply can't see "their side" of it. If you dislike cohesive stories, interesting plots, exciting twists, believable characters, and a genuine balance between humour, terror, and the cerebral in classic Doctor Who fashion, then I guess I get you - I'd think you're crazy, but I'd get it. But really, I just can't see the other side of this particular coin. I'm definitely more looking forward to Doctor Who in 2011 than Torchwood - I'm actually completely apathetic to Torchwood's upcoming season. I dunno if it's because of the America contribution (I'm the first to admit to being somewhat anti-America), the loss of most of the main characters the all the resulting cast changes/additions, or what... I just don't find that I care as much as I did leading up to Children of Earth.

I think you kind of missed the point. Taking it in a different direction and possibly in doing so taking it in a direction that people don't like, has nothing to do with what you described above. Overall I am happy with Who at the moment, so as an example I will use Lost. After series 2 I didnt like the direction the show went. The stories were cohesive and interesting enough, there were twists and also believable characters. All that you described above. But for me, after the second series the show went a completely different direction to what I expected and lost a lot of what had made me a fan throughout the first two series. The same could be said of Torchwood. Personally I loved series 3. Again, it had everything you described above but it went in a completely different direction to what we were accustomed to. Some people weren't keen on that particular direction, but it had nothing to do with being cohesive and interesting with twists and believable characters. There is a considerable difference

And this^^

I'm just not that excited for TW, I think it will be good but atm it doesn't feel like it's Whoniverse, I'm more stoked for S5 of SJA tbh Tongue

You sort of answered your own question there I think. You liked TW but you aren't so exited about the upcoming series because of its new direction, becoming americanised, changing cast etc

I can't wait for all of them. I love Doctor Who. I love Torchwood. I love SJA. What's not to look forward to? And... There's gonna be a series five of SJA? How did I not know that? Undecided

Well that goes to show how observant I am. I like to avoid spoilers at all costs but this is ridiculous. I may as well be living under a rock for all I know. Tongue
