Hi all,

Partly due to my (shamefully) inferior knowledge of The First Doctor, I decided to start another of the classics tournaments.
I've gone with 7 & will work backwards from there!
The First Doctor Story Tournament can be found in the 1960's thread.

My plan is to do a run for each Doctor in turn, and then a final round to determine what the best overall classic Doctor story is.
As the poor guy only had the TV movie, I'm giving him a bye to the final round.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the rules.

- Please put votes in BOLD so they are easier to count
- If you would like to change your vote, make a new post announcing your change. Do not edit your original post.
- Vote changes will not be allowed after Round 2.
- Iceman put this rule in effect because it will add another difficult dimension and that keeps people from flip flopping too much. So get all your vote changing out in the first 2 rounds.
- In the event of a tie, a 1 hour extension will be given and someone who has not voted already will vote. Only the first vote within that hour time period counts. If 2 or more people vote, all the votes but the first one will be null and void. If no one votes within the hour then I will flip a coin.

If you have questions please pm me with them. I hope you enjoy this tournament! The winners of each round will be included in this post with links to each daily match and the first match will be in the post below.

Please remember to BOLD your vote if you type anything else in the post.

Round 1
Battle 01

The Curse of Fenric Vs Time and the Rani

The Curse of Fenric

"We hoped to return to the North Way, but the dark curse follows our dragon ship... The Wolves of Fenric shall return for their treasure, and then shall the dark evil rule eternally."

First Transmitted:

4 - 15/11/1989 19:35

Plot

The Doctor and Ace arrive at a British naval installation near Maiden's Point on the Northumbrian coast during World War II. Befriending the base personnel, they learn that the base, run by Commander Millington, is being used as a listening post to intercept and translate German coded messages using the ULTIMA supercomputer, and to stockpile a supply of a lethal nerve gas. Meanwhile, wheelchair-bound Dr. Judson has also been using ULTIMA to help decipher Viking runes found in catacombs beneath the base, warning of a being called Fenric, which has attracted Millington's attention believing he can gain Fenric's power.....

VS

Time and the Rani

"The more I know me, the less I like me."

First Transmitted

Whilst in flight the TARDIS is attacked by the evil Rani, a renegade Time-Lady. The TARDIS crash-lands on the planet Lakertya. On the floor of the console room, the Doctor begins his sixth regeneration. In his post-regenerative confusion the Doctor is separated from his young companion Mel and tricked into assisting the Rani in her megalomaniac scheme to construct a giant time manipulator....

I like Time And The Rani more than most people seem to (in a sort of yes-I-know-it's-terrible-and-I-love-it-all-the-more-for-it kind of way), but The Curse Of Fenric is just a stunning story, so easily gets my vote.

I find it impossible not to love a story with an evil Bertie Bassett in it, but Ghost Light is just brilliant. (even if I'm still not entirely sure what the hell is going on half the time)

Ghostlight a gem of a story. Though (as usual) I do agree with Roger - its difficult not to love a story with a villainous Bertie Bassett!
