Oh really? I love Waters of Mars. Thought it was really quite sad watching them all die. The others are all terrible though.

It's alright, but there was too much hype, so it will eternally disappoint me...

I really liked WoM, but it didn't feel like a DW story at all

Like I say, I liked it but they built up so much hype about how it was going to be the scariest ever and the most amazing thing to wait for and how you were going to be terrified of water for ever and ever and ever and I watched it and was like:
Oh, well this is alright, bit strange thing there, stupid theory there, why would anyone do that? water wouldnt fall there.... So my technical brain turned on - on the FIRST viewing, it isn't meant to do that till 2nd, so I was really disappointed...

There was tonnes of hype for all the specials and none of them lived up to it...
They are special because they shouldn't exist... They should have killed off DT in Journeys End.... Blunt, but it is what I believe

What should have happened was that DT/10 got a 4th series. The specials were a compromise to accomodate DT's Hamlet commitment and give the fans some DW until The Moff had his show up and running. And of course they hyped the specials - with no full series to look forward to they needed to keep the show foremost in the public eye. Bear in mind that it was already known that DT was leaving and Smith was taking over - reaction was close to civil unrest. The Beeb HAD TO throw the dogs a bone.

Out of curiousity...how would YOU have done that? I remember there being some discussion that they were to be like COE...as in one story arc...would this have appealed?

Possibly... Actually yes, because mini series means that if you lock the Doc up or something then he can have less scenes/easy and quick scenes to film which means that I reckon they could have had a better reaction, get in a new companion who ends up getting lost along the way or is actually an alien and has to get home.... something so they only need to be in those eps, perhaps like vanishing the Doc from time and the companion having to figure it out, something complicated but Doctor-ish enough that even though he has less scenes... it still works and you don't notice...
