I will be doing another rewatch today. The first time was all about the wonder and excitement that it was back and the second time was all about picking stuff up that I missed first time around, but today I think I will just try and watch and soak it all in. I'll also try to take in the good lines and the music and mistakes and stuff like that.

I enjoyed the Impossible Astronaut, the setting was vast and suitably filmic, the aliens were genuinely creepy and I really liked the idea that the characters could only remember the aliens when looking directly at them.

However, there were some flaws particularly another Death of the Doctor, which is starting to get irritating, if the Doctor really died before Matt Smith managed to regenerate, then the series would come to an end in a couple of years when Smith decides to leave.  So presumably that was either not the Doctor or they'll fiddle with time again.  Also it was quite complicated which is not a problem for fans of sci-fi but could be a put-off for casual viewers, which may be a reason why there has been a ratings decline over the past couple of years.

Overall, good episode, looking forward to the conclusion next week -

- though I'll have to watch it on I Player as I am working till 6.30pm next Saturday! Angry

But there hasnt been a decline. Not really anyway. The overnights have gone down but the iplayers and time shift have gone up. The same ammount of people are watching, they are just watching in different ways is all.

Great episode, voted 4 Afro

Love the Silents, why was that main one stalking Amy thou?  Is it less 'bad' than we are lead to believe, or trying to trap the Doctor into kick starting the proto TARDIS?  Who had been in that medical chair with the icky, slimey leads?  WTF happened to Rory?  Is the astronaut friendly, being held hostage by or an enemy of the Silents?  And where are we in the Lodger TARDIS's timeline, before or after S5?

Sooo many questions Grin

an amazing episode thought it was great, but a few questions:

the silents make people forget, amy made people remember are they stalking her because she is a threat?

what happened to the older doctors tardis?

and how much did that table in the warehouse look like an organic based cyber conversion table?

what happened to the older doctors tardis?

That occurred to me when I was re-watching it earlier - we never saw it, so where is it? And what happens to it now?

As an alternate to the Cyber conversion thingamy... My first thoughts were how that room which River and Rory break into near the end looked like the place that was above Craig's flat in the Lodger... And we know Craig is coming back...?

Well I certainly enjoyed it more on rewatch (without my laptop on in front of me!) but still only rank it 3/5. I had lots of things to say about it last night but my laptop died  Cry so can't remember them.

Anyway, one theory I had is (apologies if someone else has come up with it) - River Song is Amy's daughter. The mystery isn't that River is the Doctor's wife, which (if true) seems pretty apparent, but the fact that she's Amy's daughter. It would explain the connection between Amy + the Doctor. Haven't quite thought through the logistics of this theory but it cropped up in my head last night.

I don't particularly want River to be Amy's daughter at this point, but with that in mind I am still quite excited to see how they would deal with that if it were the case and how it might play out, so although it wouldnt be my first choice I am open to it

iPlayer too. Just goes to show how many people watch later rather than on first broadcast. Though I don't doubt a large number of them will have already seen it

It's the early time slot too, I remember reading something in DWM last year saying how more and more people are recording it to watch at a later time and also because of that more and more people are using iPlayer. Unless people are just being like me...

I think I must be on my 10th re-watch by now...  Roll Eyes

I've watched this a couple of times now and I am still head over heels in love with it. The plot, the characterisation and the dialogue was all sharp, paced well and kept your interest. The music was at the very high standard of series 5 and the production values on the filming, camerawork and effects were absolutely top notch. Some episodes of series 5, although they were brilliant, often felt a bit on the cheap side. The budget seemed a lot more stretched (something that can also be said of series 1, so its probably a case of getting to grips with the budget) but this year it seems that not a penny was wasted. Im far more impressed than I thought I would be
