Im just going to copy and paste this over from the main site...

Jane Espenson, known to many around the globe as one of the greatest scifi writers in the industry, who's credits include Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Caprica and Battlestar Gallactica, is writing for series 4 of Torchwood as many of you know. Well she has spoken out this week explaining a little about what to expect, how she came aboard, and changes that have been made to the plot and characters since the press release. She also confirmed that she will be writing three of the 10 episodes.

“I’m thrilled to say I was invited on board. My agent told me about it very casually; I was already busy at the time, and he thought I’d want to decline, but I jumped in fast to say I absolutely wanted to participate.”

“I love blending tones – mixing the broadly comedic moment in with the darkly dramatic one can heighten both. Torchwood is a show that welcomes that kind of moment. I’m also really eager to play with all the culture-clash material that comes naturally out of the show’s pedigree. And I’m especially eager to write material that pushes the boundaries of what can ordinarily be done on television.”

The writing process is intense. We’ve already changed the name of at least one character that was announced in the press. And there’s nothing to stop us from changing more—so if you hear anything, even if it was true at some point, it probably isn’t anymore. So the more you learn about Torchwood, the less you know.”

Its like she was talking about Jack at the end! Tongue

I dont really know her work. At all, but I assume as she has been given 3 Eps she must be good.

It's quite nice to know that news is coming through, though I am still worried about Series 4. I hope they don't make too many changes...

I'm looking forward to her episodes the most. I love all of her work. I was excited about TW coming back anyways, but when I heard she was on board it made me even more excited. She will do an amazing job if her previous work is anything to go by

she's a bona fide legend IMO.

Warehouse 13, BSG, Buffy, Angel, Eureka, Firefly.

She's awesome & I have such high hopes for her episodes.

My only Torchwood gripe is this; BARROWMAN!! needs to go away until it comes on. No reality crap, no cds, no random turning up on every single show on TV.
By the time it airs we may all be completely sick of him.

Also, I want Jack to be badass again. Full on asskickery please.

I'm so excited and happy that Jane is writing for S4, she's great at characterisation and I think any show that she is on benefits from her input Smiley

I'm wondering how many Rusty will be writing if Jane is doing three.  There are three other writers attached to it, John Shiban, John Fay and Doris Egan, so are they only doing one each and RTD the other four?  I would have thought that Fay would do more than just the one tbh?

I suppose as long as Chibnall isn't doing any I'll be happy Tongue

Well I'd count on at least 2. The premiere, and the finale. He already is confirmed for the premiere.

I assume he'll do rewrites for all the episodes as well?

Yes. That's what "showrunner" means. You write the script, I'll add my RTD cheesiness, and we'll film it and put it on TV!  Grin

So much love for JE and I have to add mine too. I really dont see how this series can fail with her on board. She oozes writing talent and knows a great story

I read an interview today where she said she is looking forward to pushing the boundries of what we normally would see on a TV show with the new series. Seems like she is enjoying working on Torchwood so far.
