Matt Smith is hoping his new TV role as a gay young man in 'Christopher and His Kind' will separate him from his role in the Doctor.

I generally don't have a problem separating actors from the roles they play so it shouldn't be a problem in this house  Smiley

I can think of a few people I know who can't/don't. And as for the media - they just like causing issues where none exist I think  Tongue

I agree.  He is an actor: he acts.  That's what they do.  He should have the ability to play different roles without being typecast.  I actually think this role is a good move on his part towards that.  Kinda like Daniel Radcliffe doing Equus.

I think people tend to lose sight of the fact that for the actors the role of the Doctor IS a job. And that in relative terms it's only a small part of their career. Matt is only what 28? Even if he stays another 3 he's still got a further 30-40 years or so to WORK. Being known for playing the Doctor alone is not going to fill that time by any stretch of the imagination.

I agree with matt smith, he's an actor and every actor doesn't really want to become a stereotype

He is also vain, ego-centric and quite mad

This thread here - this is why I love this forum so much. Sensible, reasoned and civilised discussion by good people on an issue that could cause chaos elsewhere.

Some people fix things, some people teach things and Matt Smith, he acts in things. Its his job. I share his hope that people can differentiate - because I have really high hopes for Christopher and his Kind. Isherwood was one of my teenage influences and a proper bio of him is long overdue.
