The BBC could cut back on its overnight programming in a bid to save money. The move, which would affect the schedule between 10.35pm and 6am, is one of the ideas suggested by the corporation's staff in an internal review.

Director-general Mark Thompson said the BBC is looking to see if there is a case for investing less in off-peak programming and more on peak-time shows.

uh oh... don't know if that is good or bad....

When I'm left at home overnight by myself I like having the TV on or a DVD going.... usually put it on BBC because that's just what I like, but I hope they don't get rid of stuff overnight on BBC one, but then again if they did and they had more money to put in to other TV shows then it could mean osme of my favourite BBC shows: Doctor Who, Casualty and Waterloo Road could become even better  Smiley

Argh, dont know what to think!  Sad

I have to admit I rarely watch the bbc during the night. I tend to hit one of the film/entertainment channels or catch up with stuff I've got on sky +.

It's not exactly riveting viewing from what I can remember and with so much else for people to choose from I don't imagine ratings justify it anymore. Especially when they have other areas of the service that would benefit far more from the imput of extra finance.

It seems the bbc are struggling to maintain a lot of side projects they've built up over the years - it wasn't that long ago they advised they were going to be closing down numerous websites Undecided

Not overnight programming, but I thought it worth mentioning that a few papers are reporting that after 53 years, they may be cutting Blue Peter Shocked

They would be crazy to get rid of it. Though they did cut the number of episodes a little while back to two a week. Perhaps they could move it to CBBC channel instead or something. Though I suppose even that would be quite controversial after so long on BBC1

I suppose it'll all come down to viewing figures. Which, last I heard, weren't too good. There'd still be one hell of a row if they did decide to scrap it, although you'd have to wonder how many of those who'd be complaining would actually be people who were still watching it and how many would be people who hadn't seen an episode in years and were just complaining for reasons of nostalgia.

As for getting rid of late night programmes, why not just show repeats of Doctor Who instead? Seems like the obvious solution to me.  Tongue

I'm all for it. Just show repeats of current shows. I can't imagine there's a large amount of people who tune in regularly. I couldn't even name a late night show.

Give all the money to Who tbh
