It just seems so unreal - I mean, 63 isn't really classed as old at all any more, and last time I saw her, she looked fantastic.

I can only presume her illness was kept quiet, although according to the beeb, that Lizo guy was in the know it seems?

She's my mom's age, born same year. Was kept quiet and I'm guessing came on sudden.

TDD mentioned it in the spoiler thread of the SJA section a few weeks ago, but I don't think anyone thought it was anything more than flu or something.

Has some nice quotes about her by people... (Probs same as on Beeb site, but I find easier to read)

Just went back & read those comments. A bit spooky, in hindsight.

I think/hope this is one of those ocassions when fandom unites instead of the usual hateful garbage.
Don't think anyone had a bad word to say about her.

Some of the stuff I'm seeing on twitter really has me scratching my head though.

First the Brig, now Sarah Jane. This is becoming a very sad year indeed.

RIP Lis, you'll never be forgotten.

I just wanted to add my sadness and regret at the passing of Elisabeth Sladen. She got me twice, once in the 70's and now again when she enjoyed her wonderful and throughly deserved renaissance in the SJA. The suddenness of her passing makes it that much more painful. My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues. And also with everyone around the Whoniverse who feels the pain of her passing.

RIP Lis - you were amazing and we shall miss you x

Once again, RTD hits exactly the right buttons to make me an emotional wreck. What a lovely tribute from him.

A very unfortunate loss for all who knew her and saw her performances as Sarah Jane, and she'll certainly be missed. RIP Elisabeth Sladen.

RIP Lis.  I didn't know you well, I only saw the episodes with you from new Who, but what I could tell from those episodes was that you were brave, brilliant, caring, strong and wonderful.  My heart goes out to your friends and family.  So sudden, and much to young.  You will be missed.

Doctor Who will pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen when the show returns for a new series this Saturday.

The actress, loved for her portrayal of investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith, passed away yesterday morning after battling cancer.

Asked if a tribute to Sladen will be featured on the upcoming episode, a spokesperson for Doctor Who told Digital Spy that the show's production team are "planning something suitable".

This has just appeared on my Twitter feed - I suspect it will be for UK eyes only first up but I imagine it will find its way on YouTube fairly swiftly

@edwardrussell: My Sarah Jane: A tribute to Elisabeth Sladen. This Saturday at 18.45 on CBBC - directly after Doctor Who.
