Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where "summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime," Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's seven noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise. Sean Bean as Eddard "Ned" Stark Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister Mark Addy as King Robert Baratheon Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont Aidan Gillen as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen Kit Harington as Jon Snow Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark Maisie Williams as Arya Stark Richard Madden as Robb Stark Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy Isaac Hempstead-Wright as Bran Stark Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon Rory McCann as Sandor "the Hound" Clegane So who's watched this so far? I absolutely loved it! Great seeing Sean Bean in Boromir mode, and the cast so far is absolutely spot on - I didn't even recognise Jason "Ronon Dex" Momoa at first! And after one episode it was renewed for a second series too! Exciting!

It sounds a bit LOTR, and I hate LOTR. I might give it a look though

I honestly loved the first episode, and I'm not that big on LotR either (aside from the ending to Fellowship & the battle of Helm's Deep).
Apparently the second episode is even better.

Not watched ep 2 yet, but looking forward to it. I'm a huge Sean Bean fan.

I finished reading the first book over the weekend, so I'm
raging that Ned gets killed
I've been enjoying it, thou it took me a while to get used to the pacing of the show and remembering who is who Tyrion, Ayra and Dany are my favourite characters by a long way, and I love to hate Joffrey and his bride to be (Sania, or something?). I have to be honest and say I don't see why the ending of the last episode is such a shock to many. With this being a series of books it's fairly obvious that the main story is about the younger generations lives more than the elder members of the families. I had been expecting it to happen for the last two episode at least, and it was done in such a way that both Stark daughters will remember this for the rest of their lives. The way these two in particular will react in the long term is something I look forward to

One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.

I agree with you Sandi. It was wonderfully done. I am working through the first book now but I am not that far into it yet. Really loving the show though.

The finale is this Sunday (or Monday for Sky Atlantic), so then you'll be able to have a full run at it, Double P.
It really is a brilliant show, and a few of the young actors are brilliant - especially Maisie Williams & Kit Harington.
Also, Iain Glen is absolutely brilliant as Ser Jorah. That fella has one of the most commanding voices I've ever seen. Wish they hadn't killed him in series 5 of Who.

I just started watching this and I am totally hooked already. I'm only 2, maybe 3 episodes in but I just think it is wonderful. Such a strong and brilliant cast, and visually brilliant too. I don't usually like Sean Bean but he is great in this and his youngest daughter is like the most awesome kid in a tv show ever!

Despite my deep dislike for Sean Bean (who has actually turned out to be excellent in this) I decided to give it a go and now I am totally hooked. I went into town to pick up the books this week, but they were enormous and scary looking so I have left that for now. I am way behind everyone else though. If I am not working the night shifts then I like to watch a bit before bed, but I am usually so shattered that I only manage about half so it's taking me two days per episode. I got through a whole one last night though and it was great. I think it may have been episode 4 or 5
where they pour the hot gold over that guys head
. I'm hoping to get through the rest now I have a few days off

Yeah, series 2 will be around Easter time.
Related note - Peter Dinklage won a very well deserved Emmy last night for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Absolutely brilliant.

I've been reading some awesome stuff for the new series, I can't wait. Shame it was pushed back to June but it's looking like it's going to be a great series.
